Seven hours passed…

It was now eight o’clock in the evening. Wen Wenyao had only eaten breakfast today, and she looked at her watch, realizing how late it was. Surprisingly, she didn’t feel hungry.

Suddenly, without warning, the door to the operating room opened. A doctor dressed in a white lab coat and wearing a mask emerged from the room.

He was the best emergency surgery doctor in the hospital, as instructed by the director.

The doctor was covered in sweat, and seven hours of continuous surgery had left him exhausted.

If the patient had arrived a few minutes later, she would have suffered organ failure. Fortunately, they had managed to save her.

“Doctor, how is she?”

The young girl sitting on the bench rushed over as soon as she saw the doctor, urgently inquiring about the patient’s condition.

Seeing the young girl’s red eyes and pale face, the doctor felt a pang of sympathy. However, he was more relieved that they had managed to save the patient. If the surgery hadn’t been successful, this girl would be even more devastated.

“Don’t worry, the patient is temporarily out of life-threatening danger. However, her digestive organs have been severely injured by the blade. She needs a trauma repair surgery, and for a long period after the operation, she won’t be able to eat solid food or engage in strenuous exercise.”

The doctor spoke in a relaxed tone, trying to ease Wen Wenyao’s worries as much as possible.

However, when the young girl heard these words, she covered her face and burst into tears.

“Thank you… Thank you so much…”

Her tears flowed uncontrollably, and amidst the tears, there was both pain because of what Song Nanqiao had suffered and relief that Song Nanqiao hadn’t left her. The person she loved was still alive.

“Don’t be too sad. It’s a great thing that she’s still alive.”

The doctor didn’t find her reaction unusual. Many patients’ family members reacted similarly, crying when the rescue was unsuccessful and crying even when the patient was saved.

“When can I go see her then?”

Wen Wenyao was now eager to take care of Song Nanqiao. She was deeply concerned about Song Nanqiao’s health and wanted to be there for her, to make amends for all the pain she had suffered.

“After six o’clock tomorrow afternoon, she will be transferred to the high-level ward. Right now, she needs postoperative care. You can go back for now.”

The doctor looked at Wen Wenyao and deliberately used the word “you,” as per the director’s instructions. He knew that Wen Wenyao’s identity was not simple.

“Thank you, Doctor.”

“Yes, I need to go perform the recovery surgery for the patient now.”

After the doctor’s response, he walked wearily back into the operating room, and the door closed once again. Wen Wenyao hadn’t had a chance to say anything.

She took a moment to collect her thoughts. She realized that she couldn’t see Song Nanqiao right away. It might be better to go back, rest, and gather her strength to visit Song Nanqiao with a clear mind the next day.

At 8 p.m., Wen Wenyao returned home. Her driver had brought her backpack back.

Although she had missed a day of classes today, Wen Wenyao could catch up quickly with her learning ability. Besides, she had already studied the textbooks in advance.

She picked up her homework, focused her mind, and completed it with the highest quality and efficiency. After putting her pen down, she checked the clock on her desk. It was already half past ten.

She hadn’t had dinner yet.

Not wanting to bother the household staff, Wen Wenyao went downstairs and cooked something simple to eat.

After taking a shower in the evening, Wen Wenyao turned off the lights and lay down on her bed. As soon as her fatigued body touched the mattress, she completely collapsed.

She had indeed had a tiring day.

The next day…

News about Song Nanqiao was still circulating around the school. Every time Wen Wenyao heard people discussing it, she felt uncomfortable and tried to divert her attention elsewhere.

“Are you okay?” her deskmate patted Wen Wenyao on the shoulder, knowing that she might have emotional issues due to Song Nanqiao’s incident yesterday.

“I’m fine.” Wen Wenyao forced a smile. Although Song Nanqiao had been out of danger, she still couldn’t completely relax.

“What about her?”

“She’s out of danger.”

“That’s great!” Her deskmate suddenly became excited and added, “After surviving a major crisis, there will be good fortune.”

“Let’s hope so.” Wen Wenyao rested her chin on her hand, looking into the distance. She hoped that Song Nanqiao would never have to go through such an ordeal again.

Time passed quickly at school, and at six o’clock in the afternoon, Wen Wenyao took a taxi to the hospital.

Song Nanqiao should have been transferred to the ward by now. Accompanied by a nurse, Wen Wenyao went to Song Nanqiao’s room.

The door was made of solid wood, and she couldn’t see what was inside. Wen Wenyao held the doorknob, feeling her body trembling slightly.

“You can stop here. Thank you,” she suddenly felt that her emotions might be getting out of control again. She turned away from the nurse and said this.

“Of course.” The nurse didn’t say anything else and quickly left.

Once the nurse was gone, Wen Wenyao managed to suppress her unstable emotions. She pushed open the door slowly.

Song Nanqiao…

Her lover…

Lay quietly inside…

She was wearing a hospital gown, her face was pale, her left hand had a glucose drip, and there was a machine attached to her stomach…

Wen Wenyao turned her face away, but she found tears were already streaming down her cheeks. She wiped away the tears and dared not look directly at Song Nanqiao’s stomach.

“I’m sorry…”

Trembling, she sat down on a chair, not daring to touch Song Nanqiao for fear of causing her more pain.

But at that moment, she saw Song Nanqiao’s eyelids twitch. It seemed like she was about to wake up. Under Wen Wenyao’s nervous gaze, Song Nanqiao slowly opened her eyes.

As she regained consciousness, she felt intense pain in her stomach, causing her to break out in a cold sweat. She tried to speak but found she couldn’t.

It was too painful…

Even breathing was painful…

In all her years, she had never suffered like this.

“Don’t speak… I know you’re in pain… I’ll call the doctor right away…”

Wen Wenyao quickly pressed the emergency button next to the bed, using her other hand to gently cover Song Nanqiao’s mouth. She didn’t press too hard, as she knew how much pain Song Nanqiao was in. The more Song Nanqiao’s body hurt, the more her heart ached.

Tears welled up in the girl’s eyes and fell onto her bed. She looked at Wen Wenyao’s face, listened to her words, and gradually began to adapt to the excruciating pain that had intensified after the anesthesia wore off.

“Don’t be afraid… I’m here with you… Be good… The pain will go away soon.”

Wen Wenyao comforted her in a soft and gentle voice, like cotton candy. Although her face was stained with tears, she presented her softest side to Song Nanqiao, using a tender voice to help her relax and feel at ease.

Upon hearing this, Song Nanqiao nodded slightly. A faint smile appeared at the corner of her mouth, and the expression of pain on her face seemed to disappear as if by magic.
