Afternoon

While Song Nanqiao was reading a book, Wen Wenyao received a phone call.

It was from the principal. She glanced at Song Nanqiao, who was focused on her book and didn’t want to disturb her, so she left the ward to answer the call.

“What’s going on?”

“The Qin family has hired a lawyer for Qin Ruixi. The trial may start in a few days. How are your preparations going?”

“No problem,” Wen Wenyao replied casually.

No matter how skilled the lawyer hired by the Qin family is, they won’t be as effective as Jia Xu. When it comes to the trial, Jia Xu knows what to do.

It’s all just a matter of time.

Just let Qin Ruixi live a little longer.

After saying that, the principal fell silent for a while and couldn’t help but sigh. These days, the Qin family has been putting pressure on him, asking for evidence that Qin Ruixi has shown remorse, has an excellent daily performance, and that Song Nanqiao’s injuries are not serious.

They also want him to suppress the school’s public opinion.

“Don’t worry, I’ll handle everything,” Wen Wenyao said in a relaxed tone, making it sound like a simple matter to the principal.

“I hope so…”

The principal had his worries. If this could greatly damage the Qin family, it would be beneficial for him as well.

After this conversation, the two hung up.

About half an hour later, Wen Wenyao received a message from Jia Xu. Song Nanqiao’s case would go to trial in three days.

Since Song Nanqiao was still recovering, she wouldn’t be able to leave the hospital for the next three days. Wen Wenyao didn’t want to burden Song Nanqiao with these matters anymore, so she decided not to inform her until after Qin Ruixi’s verdict.

This lawsuit was originally heavily in favor of the Qin family, but Jia Xu had secretly manipulated some information in their favor…

On the day of the trial, Wen Wenyao was present at the courthouse.

She glanced at Jia Xu sitting at the top, dressed in a suit and flipping through case files.

The Qin family’s lawyer seemed confident, presenting twelve reasons for leniency for Qin Ruixi.

“Qin Ruixi has just turned 17 this year and is not yet an adult. His crime should not warrant the death penalty.”

“The defendant, Qin Ruixi, suffers from severe anxiety and bipolar disorder, which are mental illnesses, as evidenced by medical records.”

“The victim, Song Nanqiao, is still alive.”

The twelve reasons were listed one by one, and the lawyer’s arguments were well-crafted, with no frivolous points. They all seemed reasonable and legally valid for a defense.

However, Jia Xu was not swayed. He glanced at them and signaled to Song Nanqiao’s lawyer, whom he had personally arranged.

“The defendant, Qin Ruixi, had a motive to harm the victim dating back to a month ago, as evidenced by documents from the school.”

“The victim, Song Nanqiao, has been issued multiple critical condition notifications by the hospital, indicating severe injuries. Qin Ruixi is charged with attempted murder.”

“The defendant, Qin Ruixi, has no evidence of any mental illnesses. I hope the opposing counsel refrains from presenting false testimony.”

Jia Xu raised his head to look at the Qin family’s lawyer. He knew they would likely bring up the topic of mental illness, so he had already arranged for the hospital’s doctors to provide genuine evidence. If the Qin family fabricated evidence, he would have them caught.

The Qin family’s lawyer’s expression darkened, but he continued his defense.

Both sides argued relentlessly.

Jia Xu paused the proceedings.

Intermission…

On the rooftop, Qin He was smoking when a middle-aged man approached him.

“Hello, Mr. Qin.”

“Who are you?” Qin He adjusted his collar. He was not in the mood for idle chatter.

“Who I am doesn’t matter. I just want to tell you, Mr. Qin, to give up on Qin Ruixi. He won’t survive…” The middle-aged man didn’t seem bothered by Qin He’s impolite tone and continued speaking gently.

“Do you want to die?” Qin He turned to him, grabbed the man’s collar, and seemed ready to punch him.

“But he’s my nephew.”

Although not his biological nephew, there was only one male heir in the main branch of the Qin family. How could he let him die?

“He may be your nephew, but you should also consider your situation…,” the man said, smiling. He suddenly gripped Qin He’s wrist with great force, forcing Qin He to release him.

Hearing this, a hint of fear crossed Qin He’s face momentarily, but he quickly regained his composure. The subtle change in his expression lasted less than a second, but it was observed.

“What does it matter if you know?” Qin He retorted.

Qin He was not afraid. He currently held the power within the Qin family.

“You’re too confident. While you currently hold the Qin family’s power, your position is not secure.” The man paused and continued,

“Firstly, Song Nanqiao has connections with the Wen family. Jia Xu has defended her several times today. Are you not aware? Do you dare to offend Wen Guangquan? Secondly, I have evidence of your reported misconduct. If this is exposed, the other Qin family relatives will have a reason to push you out. Thirdly, Qin Ruixi is not your biological child. It’s not worth sacrificing the rest of your life for a worthless nephew who almost committed murder.”

These three reasons for Qin He to give up on Qin Ruixi struck a chord with him.

“Are you siding with the Wen family?” Qin He narrowed his eyes, looking at the man with a threatening expression.

“Yes, I am. You’re a smart person; you know what to do.” The man didn’t seem afraid, appearing to have strong backing.

Qin He calmed down slightly.

Indeed, that was the case. He had used many special methods to gain the support of the family’s patriarch. If this matter was exposed, the other relatives in the Qin family would likely unite to push him out. Furthermore, Song Nanqiao’s identity appeared to be more complex than it seemed.

Jia Xu had personally intervened to help her…

Jia Xu had close ties with Wen Guangquan, and Wen Guangquan’s daughter was also assisting Song Nanqiao.

There was no need to give up everything he had worked for over the years for the sake of a nephew.

People were inherently driven by self-interest.

If it really was like this… then there was nothing to be done…
