“Don’t overthink it. Later, I’ll watch a movie with you,” Song Nanqiao brought Wen Wenyao closer and gently kissed her forehead in full view of the girl, a soft kiss like a feather brushing across her forehead, carrying Song Nanqiao’s affection, causing the girl in her embrace to blush and her heart to race.

“Alright.”

Wen Wenyao nodded shyly. Just a simple kiss made her happy.

After they finished their meal, as promised, Song Nanqiao set up the projection equipment in the room, drew the curtains, and adjusted the lighting to create a dim atmosphere. The secret room became a cozy little cinema. Wen Wenyao liked the romantic and sweet ambiance and picked her favorite movie, but Song Nanqiao’s attention was focused entirely on her.

She would occasionally touch Wen Wenyao’s hand, give her a peck on the forehead, and hold her in her arms, discreetly savoring her fragrance. She treated her like a treasure, caring for her attentively.

“Aren’t you supposed to be watching the movie?” Wen Wenyao leaned against Song Nanqiao, her fingers playing with her hair.

“Actually, no.”

Song Nanqiao turned slightly and kissed Wen Wenyao’s cheek.

With such a beautiful girlfriend, she couldn’t focus on the movie.

“You weren’t like this before.”

Wen Wenyao felt both shy and happy; she particularly liked Song Nanqiao’s open display of affection.

“What was I like before?”

“You were quite aloof, like a cold, unfeeling stone.”

As she said this, Wen Wenyao had already turned around, grabbing Song Nanqiao’s shoulders and resting her head on her chest, feeling her strong heartbeat.

“I won’t be like that in the future.”

Song Nanqiao held Wen Wenyao’s hand, making a solemn promise. In the past, she had indeed neglected Wen Wenyao, but now she was trying to shift her focus towards her.

“I’m a bit tired. Can you hold me while I take a nap?” There was a hint of drowsiness in the girl’s eyes.

“Sure.” Song Nanqiao took out the remote control, turned off the movie that was playing, and switched off the nearby lamp.

Just skin contact would suffice. These days, Wen Wenyao had been working late on her film shoots, and Song Nanqiao wanted her to rest more during this time. She didn’t want to bother her.

At 4 AM.

While Song Nanqiao was sound asleep, her phone suddenly rang.

Driven by exhaustion, she turned around, switched off her phone, and tried to ignore it. However, the call came again, seemingly urgent. But Song Nanqiao continued to hang up. It was only on the third attempt that she finally woke up, quickly picked up the call, put on a bathrobe, and walked to the balcony.

“Why are you calling at 4 AM?”

Thinking about her girlfriend still in bed, Song Nanqiao wanted to end the call quickly and go back to sleep.

“Sis, don’t get angry. It’s urgent information.” Liu Xuwen was awakened by a call from the intelligence agency. It was indeed an emergency, so he didn’t care about the time.

Song Nanqiao: “Go on.”

Liu Xuwen: “I investigated Wen Guangquan’s recent activities all night. He’s currently in conflict with foreign military forces over development rights, and not only did he clash with the military, but he also had conflicts with many domestic business leaders.”

“Why is he conflicting with domestic CEOs?”

“Wen Guangquan doesn’t allow any other companies to enter his development area. Essentially, he wants to keep all the money for himself. This angered the domestic CEOs, which led to the formation of the business alliance.”

At this point, Song Nanqiao’s hand had already clenched the balcony railing, her brows furrowed, showing a complex expression. What Wen Guangquan had done was extremely ruthless in her view, offending too many people.

“What’s your opinion, Sis?” Liu Xuwen asked tentatively, as it had been quite some time without any response from the other end.

For Liu Xuwen, Wen Guangquan’s troubles were actually a good thing. If Wen Guangquan suffered a heavy blow this time, he could potentially turn his situation around. But he didn’t know how Song Nanqiao saw it.

“Agree to the banquet for now. We’ll go together tonight.” After hesitating for a moment, Song Nanqiao decided to attend.

They needed to gather more information now.

“Alright, I’ll arrange it.”

“Okay.”

After ending the call with Liu Xuwen, Song Nanqiao sat alone on the balcony swing, deep in thought.

The situation had developed suddenly, and Song Nanqiao could only force herself to stay calm. What Wen Guangquan had done might have been more harmful than beneficial.

“So many people are targeting Wen Guangquan. It should be a good thing for the host, right?”

“Not necessarily. Technically, I am a student sponsored by Wen Guangquan. I should be working for him. If Liu Xuwen finds out about this connection, I don’t know what might happen. Besides, Wen Wenyao is my girlfriend now. If something happens to Wen Guangquan and he becomes too much of a target, he might likely be assassinated or something. Then, the Wen family will lose its pillar overnight, and bankruptcy is just a matter of time. Wen Wenyao might also become a target for the military and political factions.”

If she hadn’t been with Wen Wenyao, she might have helped the Chamber of Commerce and caused significant damage to Wen Guangquan, using the opportunity to advance her career. However, with Wen Wenyao in the picture, Song Nanqiao had to consider more.

“It’s giving me a headache…”

Song Nanqiao was thinking of a way to both apply pressure on Wen Guangquan and protect Wen Wenyao.

“But that little guy Liu Xuwen, it’s definitely a good thing for him.”

Song Nanqiao sighed. When Liu Xuwen spoke to her earlier, his tone was clearly filled with joy.

“So, what’s your plan?”

“I’ll try to make Wen Guangquan face some hardships, but not to the point of an immediate downfall. What I’m concerned about isn’t really the business executives; it’s the military forces,” Song Nanqiao said in a low voice.

Those business executives might be wealthy, but even with all their wealth, they couldn’t match Wen Guangquan’s resources. Moreover, Wen Guangquan had an extensive network and multiple connections with political figures. Relying solely on these business executives to unite and remove him from power was nearly impossible.

But the military was a different story.

Especially the foreign military forces, when it came to life and death situations, any amount of money would be useless. One bullet, and a person would be gone.

“Are you worried that Wen Guangquan might be killed?”

“I’m not so much worried about Wen Guangquan as I am about Wen Wenyao. If Wen Guangquan goes too far, there’s a high possibility he might face assassination or similar threats. At that point, the Wen family would lose its pillar overnight, bankruptcy would be just a matter of time, and Wen Wenyao could also become a target for the military and political forces.”

In the end, Song Nanqiao was primarily concerned about Wen Wenyao. Regardless of whether something happened to Wen Guangquan, her top priority was ensuring Wen Wenyao’s safety.

“So, what’s your plan?”

“I’ll see if I can persuade Wen Guangquan to hand over the development site to the military.”

After weighing the pros and cons, Wen Wenyao was more important.
