Wei Jin was happy in having a daughter. Although a nanny was hired to take care of Qian Miao and his daughter, whenever he thought of his child who always looked around with big black eyes, he couldn’t wait to grow wings and directly fly home after work.

Seeing that it was time to get off work, he quickly packed up all the work he had finished today and was ready to get up and leave.

But, just as his butt left his seat for a second, he was held down.

“Xiao Wei, finish this for me before you leave.”

Wei Jin’s joy was extinguished in his heart before it even bloomed. He sat down somewhat powerlessly and looked at the work handed over by the boss in front of him. He took it over and flipped a few pages, then frowned deeply.

“Head Guo, this is not my area of work.”

“What do you mean, your area or not?! You young fresh graduates, need to learn more. Hurry up and get this out, I’m waiting to use it.”

The fat boss’s chubby face changed his expression, his tone carried some displeasure, and he left the employee’s office leisurely.

The colleague beside him saw him go, and came up to Wei Jin with sympathy, “Xiao Wang just resigned. I don’t think Head Guo has any intentions in hiring people. It looks like this work will be handed over to you in the future.”

Wei Jin flipped through the file with a wry smile.” I’m really not a professional in this field.”

“We can’t help it, who made Head Guo stingy? Didn’t Xiao Wang quit because he’s stingy? Ah Jin, you have to have a bottom line. After this month’s salary, I’m going to resign too.”

The colleague patted his shoulder and said, “Don’t look at our small company looking shiny and bright. The boss is stingy and forces people to work overtime. Even if they work overtime, he doesn’t pay overtime. Last time your wife gave birth early, that night didn’t you work late until 9:30? If you went back earlier, you could still help out or something.”

“Listen to elder brother’s advice. You have no future in following him. Working overtime every day is bullsh*t. You are a professional in your field, a competent boss would have to let you work in your field. The personnel that resigned last week, he actually told the accountant do some staff work, and still didn’t raise their salary. The working hours are full, but we still need to work more, it’s too black, really no future.”

(TNote: too black = this is referring to a black company in which companies exploit their workers.)

“We are a group of people who depend on the profession to survive, but out salaries never increase.  Outside, those who accompany the boss to various occasions are paid a daily wage.”

The colleague looked around carefully and carefully came to Wei Jin’s side, whispering the gossip he had just learned, “I heard Xiao Wang say that Head Guo promoted the one surnamed Zhao, because his sister followed Head Guo.”

“The girl is only 16 years old, not yet adult, and not afraid of trouble. The little girl doesn’t know anything. The boy named Zhao also watched his sister fall into the fire pit. They really have not virtue in the family.”

Wei Jin was holding the materials that were inconsistent with his major, but he was hesitant to resign.

But now his daughter has just been born, and Qian Miao needs time for a good rest. She wanted to continue to go back to work when the confinement month was over, her daughter would be given to the nanny to take care of, and the couple will pay for the nanny.

But it wasn’t just money for babysitters. Now that his father let them move back in, they didn’t have to worry about rent. But raising a small child, especially a newborn child, there were more places that needed money. It’s impossible to say that the pressure wasn’t high.

Wei Jin never wanted to ask his father for money or help.

The fact that Wei Mingyan was poor had been deeply rooted in everyone’s hearts. He has been wandering around skulking, both before and now. Wei Jin himself was brought up by his father, and he really couldn’t compliment his father’s ability to raise children.

If he resigned now, in case he couldn’t find a good job …

The colleague saw the hesitant look on Wei Jin’s face and knew what he was thinking. He patted Wei Jin’s shoulder and sighed, “Eh, it’s not easy for you, your daughter was just born and your family needs a little stability.”

“Ah Jin, you have to think about it. The last time you took care of your wife and children for a few days, Head Guo wanted to cut your salary in half. Your wife is still working, and the child is still small. You and Qian Miao can rely on elders and Head Guo is like this. In the future, you will suffer at work.”

“I was him bully you. It looks like he knows your situation at home and feels he could bully you easily. Anyway, you should pay more attention to yourself …”

Because of the colleague’s words, Wei Jin was in a trance, full of thoughts about the future. Until he reluctantly finished that job and was on his way home from work.

He came to this company as soon as he graduated. He went in quite well at first, the work was leisurely, and the salary was also good. As long as he did his job well.

However, after working for a few months, the boss began to make him work overtime and made Wei Jin do other jobs that didn’t belong to his station. Wei Jin was honest, and he was a rookie. So, he didn’t dare to resist, and just did them.

In fact, he wasn’t very happy in the company. His familiar colleagues left one by one, and the boss above didn’t hire anyone new. He began to pile up more and more heavy work on him. If he took leave, he still had to save face for his boss. So, what’s the point of working here?

But … the money!

When Wei Jin came home, it was already pass 10. He stood downstairs, thinking about Qian Miao and his daughter at home. He sighed, rubbed his face and squeezed out a smile.

“Qiqi is still up …”

He entered the door softly, just in time to see the nanny changing his daughter’s diaper. The smile on his face suddenly became sincere. He teased his daughter for a while, saw her sleepy eyes open and close for a while, touched his daughter’s little head, and went into his room.

Qian Miao was looking at her mobile phone and frowning. She didn’t know what to think. Wei Jin put down his bag, sits by the bed, reached out and gently smoothed her eyebrow.

“What are you looking at? You look a bit unhappy.”

“Do you remember Head Nurse Liu? The one who showed me around during my internship.”

Wei Jin nodded, “I remember, you were quite close with her right? When you were pregnant With Qiqi, you still went out with her for a day.”

“She resigned.”  Qian Miao put down the phone with some loss.” The night before yesterday, she worked the night shift. That night, she saw someone who had a fight and came to the hospital for treatment. She was busy all night. She didn’t have time to eat breakfast in the morning and fainted in the treatment room.”

Wei Jin thought of the kind woman in her forties in his memory.” She is too old to stay up late.”

“The Head Nurse’s son was scared and rushed to the hospital to give his mother a full body checkup. As a result, there was a problem …”

Qian Miao thought about what the Head Nurse said to her, and eyes looked a little worried.” Ah Jin, do you think, in the future, I would also…”

“It won’t happen, didn’t you say before. The Head Nurse isn’t in good health? You’re in such good health, it’s fine.”

Wei Jin was actually a little worried. The nursing profession was still very exhausting. Especially Qian Miao, the department where she worked in was also the busiest. If she was lucky at night, she would be relaxed. If she was unlucky, she would be busy all night and lose her energy. She couldn’t even make up for it after sleeping all day.

He wanted to say that she shouldn’t go to work, just stay at home and he would support her. But thinking about his unstable salary, and his poor young daughter; A thousand words, only turned into a sigh.

The couple struggled together for a difficult life ahead. They were struggling, but none of them thought of burdening Wei Mingyan.

Wei Mingyan didn’t ask for money for fortune telling, and occasionally asked Wei Jin for money. Both of them knew that the difference between now and before, was probably that if Wei Mingyan continued to ask for money, Qian Miao wouldn’t be as angry as before.

The former father-in-law kicked them out of the house. He was still young, but he always asked for money from her husband. He occasionally caused her to have some disputes with Wei Jin.

Today her father-in-law took the initiative to let them live at home, and paid a nanny to take care of Qian Miao and Qiqi from his own pocket. Although he often disappeared, and still disliked Qian Miao, his daughter-in-law, he still did all of this for the sake of his granddaughter. At least no one came to the door and cause trouble over debt.

Qian Miao was already very content with this situation, and no longer dared to expect anything else.

What’s more, even if it’s too generous, Wei Mingyan has no money!

Wei Jin probably thought the same, so the husband and wife just sat on the bed together and sulked with each other for a long while.

Money worries.

Work worries.

The two were worried, but Suddenly, they heard a knock at the door. After less than a minute, the nanny’s voice rang out in surprise, “Mr. Wei, you are back.”

— tok… tok … tok …

The sound of the cane was heard. Wei Jin’s eyes showed joy. He quickly got up and went out to meet him.

“Dad, are you back?”

“Where have you been these days? I was worried that you tried to call but couldn’t reach anyone. Have you eaten yet? Do you want me to make some noodles? Eh, Dad why are you still leaning on this cane …”

“Hm.”  Wei Mingyan gave him a salty look before shifting his gaze to his granddaughter.

“Come, grandpa’s good Qiqi. Let grandpa hug.”

Wei Jin had become accustomed to his father’s daily dislike and completely ignored his long speech. He didn’t even doubt that his father’s eyes hadn’t fallen on him for more than a second.

The handsome man in the robe finally showed a smile when holding the baby. He swayed the baby and whispered to the nanny, “You can go home.”

“Eh, then I’ll go home first.”

Nanny actually lived in in the Wei family home every day these past few days, but she wasn’t someone who couldn’t understand the situation. Before, the young couple didn’t have time to take care of everything, but isn’t this Mr. Wei back now?

But speaking of which, the father really looked very young and handsome.

“Qiqi, do you miss grandpa? Do you miss me?”

While the nanny was packing up, Wei Mingyan sat on the sofa teasing the child in his arms. The baby girl, who was sleepy just now, perked up as soon as she heard the knock on the door, and opened her big black eyes. But instead of looking at her grandfather’s teasing hands, she looked to the other side of the sofa.

The nanny closed the door and left.

Wei Jin rubbed his hands together and was about to ask his father if he had eaten again. When he hadn’t eaten, he would make noodles. He suddenly heard his old father ask his daughter in his magnetic voice, “Qiqi, do you like this little sister?”

“Grandpa, will you let her stay with you from now on, okay?”

The baby waved her little hands and uttered a slurred sound that no one could understand. She seemed very happy. She has been accompanied by her father these days and is now very happy. She was babbling and trying to find him.

“Yah! Eee ah!”

Little Qiqi effortlessly waved her little hand and called for her own father, completely unaware that her father was almost on the verge of pissing himself.

Wei Jin looked stiffly at the direction her daughter was looking. No, there’s nothing there. A chill crept up along his spine. Obviously, he didn’t feel hot, but Wei Jin’s forehead had fine beads of sweat. Wasn’t it a dog before? Why was it upgraded to a person now!?!

“Stupid.”

“Ah, Dad?” He subconsciously responded, and then turned to the familiar disgusted eyes.

“Come here.”

Wei Jin carefully sat down on the sofa, as if he could jerk up anytime with a roar from Wei Mingyan. He nervously met his father’s gaze, whose eyes had a hint of disgust. Wei Mingyan then asked, “How are you doing at work?”

Wei Jin had a feeling of being back in high school facing his class teacher. He straightened his back and stumbled over his answer, “It’s … okay.”

“Good is good. Bad is bad. What do you mean by ‘okay’?” His father’s familiar cold style of talking made Wei Jin feel better. He glanced timidly at the position where his daughter had just looked. “Well, I am doing quite well…”

“Go and quit your job tomorrow.” Wei Mingyan’s eyes were downcast as he concentrated on teasing his little granddaughter, saying something as if it was as simple as ‘tomorrow, you go to the market and buy a cabbage’.

Wei Jin froze. “Why?” What for?

The handsome Daoist priest raised his eyes and gave his silly son an indifferent glance. “Even if I don’t tell you the reason, will you not obey and go resign?”

Wei Jin shook his head without hesitation. This was his own father. He wouldn’t hurt him.

Wei Mingyan clasped his granddaughter’s little hand and justified it, “Then why should I waste my breath? If you resign tomorrow, then it’s settled.”

“But, Dad, you should at least make it clear why you want me to resign…”

Wei Mingyan pondered for a second. His handsome young face turned to look at his son, his eyes still soft because he had just teased his granddaughter.

“Ah Jin, do you know what your greatest advantage is?”

Wei Jin was uncomfortable by the gentle gaze he had never received before. Dad, was this a compliment? The young man clasped his hands on his knees sheepishly and whispered, “What is it?”

The handsome Daoist master got up and patted his stupid son’s shoulder. “It’s listening to your dad. Okay, I’m going back to my room, you should also go to bed early.”

Wei Jin was confused for a long time before he realized, “No… Dad, make it clear. Dad, Qiqi needs to sleep too. Give her to me…”

Wei Mingyan lightly left a sentence, “Qiqi will sleep with me tonight.”

Wei Jin, who wanted his daughter back, tried recalling the days when he slept with his father as a child.

Ah… no, he grew up being disliked for snoring, and never slept in the same bed as his father.

“Can I go?” Xi Liu followed obediently into the room and stood by the bed watching the handsome Daoist master teasing the little baby, asking with a little expectation. “Xi Liu promised to get him out properly.”

“What happens after you get him out? Watch him get eaten by the bad luck without even having a chance to react?” Wei Mingyan gently placed the little baby, who was kicking her hands and feet like she was walking, on the bed, and gently patted her to sleep.

“Xi Liu, what you did to Wang Jinchuan was wrong.” He inclined his head to look at the little girl whose expression had dimmed down and whose eyes were aggrieved and lost, then asked, “Do you know what was wrong?”

Xi Liu bowed her head aggrievedly and whispered, “I didn’t do anything wrong… He’s bad! ” She didn’t understand why Wei Mingyan said she was wrong, but didn’t dare to get angry. She only dared to look down at her beautiful red shoes and argued quietly. “Xi Liu didn’t do anything wrong…”

In the end, Xi Liu was still a child. No matter how much she suffered before, she could only endure it alone. But now, she was hugged and coaxed by Zhong Hua all the way back, and while he could still see her, he bought a bunch of toys for his little sister. She was giggling all the way home. Children were like this, sometimes they could resist the feeling of being wronged, but because they were pampered, they couldn’t help it. Her eyes were red and brewing with tears when her head was suddenly flicked in the forehead with a not-so-gentle blow. Xi Liu looked like she was going to cry. Her beautiful red eyes looked up with doubt.

“Why are you as stupid as that son of mine?” Wei Mingyan withdrew his hand and looked at her with some disapproval. “Xi Liu, do you know what scares villains like Wang Jinchuan the most?”

The little girl, with tears still in her eyes, nodded timidly and replied with a sobbing voice, “To die?”

For her, death was the most painful. At first, she dared not bask in the sun and had to hide in a damp and dark place. Later, it was as if she was the only one left in the world. No one spoke to her, no one could see her. For Xi Liu, this was truly horrible. Therefore, she chose to kill Wang Jinchuan with her own hands when she took revenge. The little girl insisted that the only way to get revenge was to have her uncle be like her.

As soon as the words fell, there was another flick on the head.

“Wrong.”

Xi Liu covered her head, although it didn’t hurt, but she still looked defiantly at the handsome man in front of her. “I’m not wrong!”

“Wrong.”

“Not wrong!”

“Wrong.”

After repeating twice, Xi Liu no longer had red eyes. She shed a lot of tears, almost collapsing. Wei Mingyan was most afraid of seeing people cry, especially a little girl like this. He held his forehead, “All right, put away your tears.”

“Do you know how long it took for Wang Jinchuan to disappear?”

The little girl shook her head with tears in her eyes.

“Less than half an hour.”

“You tell me that he’s no good, and you have been hurt by him for so long. In the end, it only hurt him for half an hour. Is it worthwhile?”

Xi Liu stretched out her short little hand with a confused look and counted it, and counted again. “It doesn’t seem like it’s worth it.”

“Treating evil people, you can’t just simply pull out their souls and let the bad karma tear them apart.” The handsome Daoist master held the little girl in his arms on the bed and watched her sit obediently on the edge of the bed with her head tilted back to listen to his lecture.

“Xi Liu, you are now wearing a ‘living bell’. You don’t need to be afraid of the sun, or afraid of strangers but that doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want. Everyone has some sort of sin. Some are minor, some are serious, and some are the rare good person through and through, just like your grandfather.”

Xi Liu, who was just in tears, smiled with joy when she heard that her grandfather was a good man. “Yes, Grandpa is a good person.”

“There are good people. Of course, there are bad people. When they die, they either become ghosts and can’t reincarnate, or they’re torn apart by bad karma, so we should only care about the living…”

“Why should bad people live!!”

Wei Mingyan slightly hooked up the corners of his mouth, revealing a gentle smile. “Because the dead have their own place to go. And of course, the living have their own place to go and get punished. You are still young. Grandpa Wei will teach you slowly. Just this time, he owes you a debt, and you collected from him. Later, you need to save up for merit. Understand?”

The little girl shook her head, “I don’t understand…”

The handsome man choked and paused for a few seconds before saying, “Forget it, I’ll teach you slowly.”

Xi Liu nodded obediently, sat by the bed and looked at the baby on the bed. Suddenly, she asked, “He owes Xi Liu a debt. What about Grandpa Wei? I sensed that Grandpa Wei also wanted to punish someone.”

The handsome Daoist priest stretched out his slender hand and gently pointed at the baby’s sleeping, peaceful face, and spoke in a warm voice, “Just punish what should be punished. Grandpa Wei’s debtor is still a child now. However, the child is under the age of 5, and young children can’t be punished. Her father, however, doesn’t have this layer of protection. Okay, I’m going to burn incense. You should also go to sleep. Tomorrow, I’ll take you to meet the people who owe the debt.”

Wei Mingyan got up and put a stick of incense in the incense burner. Xi Liu immediately got sleepy, so she went to bed, laid down beside the baby, curled up and closed her eyes. Looking at the two little ones snuggled together, the handsome Daoist priest smiled, lifted his feet towards the door and opened it.

Wei Jin, who was lying by the door eavesdropping, was caught off guard and nearly fell. Fortunately, he was firmly held by his father. He stood firm and quickly thanked him.

“Thank you, Dad…”

“You’re welcome.”

Wei Mingyan dug in his sleeve and pulled out a needle. “Stupid, give me your hand.”

Wei Jin looked at the familiar needle. When he saw it, he remembered how painful it was. He felt the memory of the pain from his fingertip that was pierced last time.” Dad, Dad, I was wrong, don’t prick me…”

However, his father was still so cold and unfeeling, “Hand.”

The young man had a bitter face. Trembling, he put his hand out. “Hiss…”

Wei Mingyan took out a little wooden doll tied with a red string and dripped his stupid sons blood on it. Wei Jin felt pain, but was curious. He stared at the wooden doll. When he was hesitating to ask, a needle was shoved into his hand and he looked up with a confused expression, “Dad?”

“Good boy, use this. Get a drop of blood from Qian Miao’s hand and drop it on this.” Wei Mingyan smiled gently and stuffed the little wooden doll into his other hand.

“Dad, why don’t you go yourself …”

Wei Jin just asked when he heard his father’s faint voice, “Is Qian Miao your wife or my wife?”

His face was wrinkled into a ball because of the pain. Like a victim of scolding, he answered in a pitiful tone, “My wife… Dad, at least let me carry Qiqi away. She always slept with Miaomiao …”

Wei Mingyan raised his eyebrows, “Is Qiqi my granddaughter or my granddaughter?”

Wei Jin, with a needle in his right hand, and a wooden doll in his left hand, hesitantly said, “Your granddaughter …”

“That’s all then, good night.”
