With the scream of the host the crowd finally had their apt attention on the stage.
One must note, that for Klautz and Benton who knew the inner truths of such an event, the event can be said as nothing but boring. The same went for Gozoto who had been watching the newbies lose every year.
But for most of the others it was quite a hype and cause of bustle.
"Hell, as we know it, has always been a mesh of completely striking cultures! With its high mortality rate and with the hundreds of people from different parts of the earth that are being summoned here every year we can't help but unite despite the cultural differences. Out of many such different sides of the same coin the earth borns and the ones born in hell is just one such special coin. Today this event is celebrated as a commemoration of our 'unity'"

'Unity 'might have been a wrong word used, but the word 'event' was indeed correct. No one in a century long history of the newbie camp had ever died while battling on this stage. Anything which didn't have any deaths involved could be said as an event of entertainment in hell.
Death here wasn't a threat. The newbies who fight here might be bedridden for a few days after the match. But for better or worse such a fate was met with only a single newbie every year.
"So without any further delay. Let us begin. From the right side we have Bruno Eichel, representing the newbies. And from the right side we have Colt Ackherman representing the hells folk!"
The crowd burst out into a hustle with widened eyes as they cheered for their side.
But unlike the other Selena could only squint her eyes at the result.
"He is… that same person," Selena whispered under her breath.
Her eyes squinted as they became sharper and more pointer as Selena did her best to magnify her vision. She wanted to make sure that she wasn't just day dreaming.
Bruno Eichiel
He was one of the humans who were summoned along with her back at the tutorial zone. They belonged to the same safe point and Bruno was also the one who had come up as the third runner up in the [First Hunt] quest.
But a familiar face wasn't what had caused Selena into a frown.
Bruno had a heavy metallic armor endorning his body. While he had a long golden spear equipped. Compared to him Colt stood armless and only appeared like a commoner in front of the knight like Bruno.
"He is not our strongest," Selena scoffed.
But Selena knew better. For better or worse she was acquainted with many people stronger than him among the newbies.
Selena turned around as she glanced at Gozoto with a piercing gaze.
One must note that even if one were to rule out Klautz whose strength was unknown to Gozoto, there were definitely others that were stronger than Bruno.
In fact, Steve, who had survived the bonus stage only after Klautz, was supposed to be quite strong by now. Not to mention that they had Verona and Bill who were definitely stronger than most other newbies.
But for some reason 'Bill' and 'Steve' had both mysteriously disappeared and Verona was busy with her own 'activities'.
Selena sighed.
The crowd burst into a hustle especially those who knew about Bruno. But Selena was dissatisfied.
But she wasn't the only one who wasn't satisfied with the challengers.
"What is he doing there!"
"Where is Benton? Wasn't he supposed to represent us?"
"Damn, what kind of conspiracy is this?"
The other second gens who cussed could only squint their eyes in disdain. It wasn't just a matter of crushing the newbies and proving their superiority. Any one of them sitting in the stadium could do that. Even their weakest link Shizu was stronger than all the newbies and could counter them with ease or so was what they had thought.
Had they met Klautz they might have changed their opinions.
"I didn't accept to this!"
The true problem was that none of them had accepted Colt as their representative. Having him fight on the stage was as if accepting that Colt was superior to them. And they couldn't bear to accept such a mockery of them! They had their own pride and egos.
"Damn, isn't there a way to stop this?" one of them asked as they cussed.
A frown was visible on all of their faces. But since Gozoto wasn't taking any action or wasn't showing any signs of shock in his face, they couldn't help but keep their mouths shut. It wasn't their place to talk.
Colt smirked as he gazed upon their cussing faces.
'The early bird takes the worm.'
Truth was that there were many among them who could have taken Colt's place on the stage. Colt was indeed the second strongest but only by a small margin which didn't matter to most.
But there was one thing that he had and the others didn't. He took action first and stole the deal! Benton had told him about his unwillingness to battle before anyone else and also approved of him being replaced.
That alone was enough to allow him to be ahead of others in snatching the opportunity. His luck couldn't have been better!
'I wonder which side of the bed I had woken up from today?' Colt thought.
Colt smirked as his eyes traveled on his newly found toy. The sparkling armor on his body seemed like the spark of a newly made accessory put up on sale that had yet to lose its glow.
