Everyone watched at the stadium with wide eyes. There was a complicated expression on their face that switched from frown to anguish from time to time and sometimes to plain fear.
If Benton was like the predatory bird who threatened soft bodied caterpillars like themselves, making them want to quickly morph into a butterfly and fly away.
Then Colt was the predator who just played with them as if they were mere ants. Or so was the case with the challenger.
His face was swollen red, making his previous glory self completely unnoticeable. The knightly armor was in tatters and his face barely represented his actual self.
"Tch, he has really done it now."
"Damn this is bad."
On the other hand, the second gen who hadn't proved to be a threat to any of the newbies yet clicked their tongues in remorse. There was nothing they could do now. They could only bite their nails and lament at their loss.
But one of them had a different thought altogether.
"Is this really the strongest of the newbies?" Shizu whispered to herself in a daze.
Most of the second gens thought of the newbies as ants to be crushed. After all years of watching the earth borns groveling at the bottom of the society was not easy to shrug off.
But Shizu had a different opinion thanks to her experiences so far. She had been in the company of quite a few newbies ever since the beginning and none of them seem to be as weak as the challenger.
She didn't know that her suspicions were on point as she was comparing the challenger with Klautz.
"No he isn't," Selena whispered in reply causing Shizu to jerk her face towards her as if to confirm her suspicions.
But the person who was supposed to represent the humans was himself missing.
She could only let out a sigh as things were finally over. The fight was long and hard for Bruno. But he had refused to quit which had led to him in this state.
Bruno could have forfeited in the very beginning but he didn't. The match didn't end since Colt was toying with him and it only ended when Bruno had no other option and fell unconscious.
"Bruno cannot come close to him after all. Only Klautz seemed to have a chance against someone like him," Selena was lost in her own soliloquy as she seemed to be making judgments of the situation not noticing Shizu's intense gaze.
She wasn't sure who was stronger among Klautz and Colt but she believed that among the newbies Klautz was the strongest. The difference was as clear as a day. For some who had seen Klautz in action with her very own eyes, she couldn't be more sure.
The Bruno of now seemed to be even weaker than the past Klautz when he had fought in the bonus stage along with them.
"Klautz?"
That is when Selena noticed Shizu having all of her attention on her. It seemed like she had picked on something interesting as her eyes gleamed like a child.
"Yeah… by the way. Now that the second gen side won, who would the cash prize go to?"
Selena smiled wryly as she tried to change the topic. That itself was a great mood spoiler for Shizu who seemed to shrivel inside her seat in her comfort zone. The event might have been enjoyable for many but it certainly wasn't the case for her.
"It would go to Gozoto. But honestly, who cares?"

Selena's eyes traveled back to the stage. Everything should be over by now. But contrary to her expectations Colt walked up and held and took the mike from the host.

"It seems that the challenger was in a hurry to fall asleep. That wasn't what I had expected it to be. I believed that it would last longer."
Colt spoke as his eyes traveled to the unconscious Bruno as he let out a sigh..
"I believe the audience too wasn't satisfied with such a short battle. Is there anyone else who wishes to fight me? This time the participation prize alone would be 1000 gold coins!"
Colt smirked.
The crowd went into a frenzy at Colt's sudden remark.
A sense of rivalry against Benton sparked in his heart with him being his closest competitor. He had already left the others behind with him charging ahead making the best of the opportunity. Now it was time for Benton. He couldn't help but put up a greater show than Benton.
'But I am neither a fool nor a tyrant like him.'
Colt shook his head.
All Benton had done was scare away his potential future followers, crippling his future potential. But would Colt do the same? Never!
It was true that in order for him to control the newbies, they had to feel fear. But what Colt needed were loyal soldiers and not mindless slaves.
'A slave hardly has any potential for growth.'
Had Colt known about the existence of the ninja villages, he would have changed his opinion. But alas, he was not as aware as Benton was.
From a small age, he was taught that the best way to make followers was to give them a dose of fear and reward all at the same time. That's how you make loyal pets that would follow you anywhere.
By asking the newbies to fight him at the cost of the reward. He was delivering them both reward and pain all at the same time. In that way, he would have a stronger impression on them than Benton and he would get more followers than he was supposed to.
