Chapter 328: Do what you ought to

Even though Benton might not like all of it, he had to do what he had to do. Even though he had no motivation in leading the newbies he had to put up with it for his guild sake also so that his reputation doesn't pummel to the dust.
After all, he didn't want to end up like Colt.
But even at the end of it all, he mostly hunted alone.
Unlike certain second gens however he hadn't left the group of newbies without a leader. He properly led and managed them but he didn't hunt along with them.

The beast fell onto the floor with his finishing slash.

He broke out the two dangling horns from the dreadtaurs head. Only upon finishing his hunt, a newbie approached Colt from behind.
"Young master, the young mistress of Xia house has come to pay you a visit."
The man who was dressed as a newbie was in reality Benton's butler. Somehow he was able to slip in disguised as a newbie. Or could it be that Gozoto was feigning to have not noticed?
"Hmm, is it regarding those matters again?" Benton asked, raising his brows. "Though considering Miss Xia it shouldn't be…"
"I suspect that to be the case."
Benton was cut off even between his speculation. Oh how much he would love to be proved wrong once in a while!
*Sigh*
"Certainly this place is as I thought it would be. Didn't I tell you before? I couldn't have been more right. This newbie camp is an utterly useless farce."
A light breath of giving up, left his lips.
Benton was disappointed. He couldn't help but sigh as he walked towards the meeting place.
Xia herself was waiting for him there.
"Greeting Miss Xia…" Benton smiled.
At least the person he was receiving this time around was much more amicable than others or at least that was what it seemed on the surface.
'Well at least we can communicate. I kinda miss Colt now.'.
"Greetings," Xia replied with a curtsy bow.
Benton followed along as he returned the same.
"What has brought you here today?"
Xia nodded. Several men came out from behind her carrying loaded sacs on their back. The ones who carried and did the physical labor were certainly newbies who were already forced to have tight mouths.
"I won't beat around the bush. I wish to provide you assistance in exchange for your company." Xia turned around to Benton again.
It was certainly direct this time around. Benton had replayed the scene throughout the day far too many times. This was something he had to partake with a smile on his face despite his personal opinions about it.
'The wind is already moving.'
Factions were being built and connections were being made. Wasn't that the very purpose of the newbie camp despite being a hidden one? The vision that his master once carried to build onto this place had long been lost.
But even so the members would not shy away from anything that could be deemed shallow for that very purpose.
Even today was the same. Benton was clearly the leading role in this year's second gens. Many a peer of his would want to join his faction for the benefits it entailed with its promise of definitely being the faction that would win.
Giving up their chance at victory and dirtying their hands? That was but a shallow price to pay for that. But that didn't mean that Benton just accepted each and every one of them.
"No hard feelings on my side but… I never thought that Miss Xia of all people would resort to something like this. I had always believed that you were an upright person."
"That is for you to judge. But know this, one cannot simply swim against the tide. That would be but foolishness bringing about one's own death," she took a breath as she continued, "I am not here to deliver sugar coated words to you. I am here to do what I ought to do."
Benton turned to the newbie standing beside him as he covered his eyes with his hands.
"Ha Ha ha, butler, didn't I tell you before how the world would have been better with this facility? Ha Ha, it turns out I couldn't have been more right."
Indeed not only Benton but Xia too were bound by their shackles. Emotions were sometimes better buried deep under the rock but the one that was the cause of it was this very damned place. It had just become a honey pot for the ninjas and nothing else.
"I would then accept your courtesy. But I wish that you would accompany me for a while if you don't mind. There are some things that I would like to talk about with you."
Benton nodded, directing to the newbie dressed butler beside him, as the butler went ahead and collected the bags.
Several of the groups had aggregated around Benton's group for this very reason. Benton's group wasn't necessarily stronger than any of the others. But he himself was a force on his own.
To choose a place around his group and end up hunting around him? That would certainly reduce their efficiency to a large degree. But they couldn't be bothered by it.
If they could not beat him. They would rather join him instead. With a motto like that they persisted in being leeches. But Xia herself said, one could not swim against the 'tide' either.
"By the way, Ms Xia, I have always seen Ms Ryder to accompany you at all times. Today however you are alone it seems. What happened to her?"
Hearing her friend's name Xia's face turned into that of a white sash.
