Title: Silent Lover Author: Qiang Tang Translated by Condz Edited by Asaki

Shen Yu paused in shock, not knowing what to do.

Why would he say that? He had clearly stopped him from coming inside, but how did that turn into offering shelter? Xiao Xiye’s smile seemed bright and sincere, as if he was genuinely thankful.

“No, no!” Shen Yu shouted from his heart, but aside from shaking his head and waving his arms around, what else could he do?

“Seems like you don’t remember me. It’s my fault for being so drunk I forgot to introduce myself.”

Shen Yu immediately looked at Zhenbei Wang anxiously, but he only met a deep and incomprehensible gaze. Even though Zhenbei Wang did not express it, Shen Yu knew that he had believed Emperor Ye’s words.

“Xuanxiao, what a coincidence.” Emperor Ye said happily, “I got drunk yesterday and went to take a walk around the manor. After carelessly getting lost, I stumbled into Shaohua Pavilion. My shoes and socks were soaked from the snow, thankfully Shen Yu invited me inside to dry them off. I rush off in a daze without even expressing my thanks.”

Xiao Xiye stated everything logically. Shen Yu didn’t understand; he was the Emperor, why is he making stuff up? Even though there was nothing between them, when heard from the perspective of Zhenbei Wang…

“Oh, since you two have already met, then there’s no need for me to introduce you again.” Zhenbei Wang briefly glanced at Shen Yu, biting down on the words “already met”.

“Huh? Brother, was last night your first time meeting Concubine Yin?” The Princess asked curiously, “You guys didn’t know each other before?”

Shen Yu promptly shook his head in denial.

“It was in the middle of the night, and my brother was drunk. Concubine Yin brought a drunk and unfamiliar man into the room, that really is being hospitable.” The Princess covered her mouth and said with a laugh.

Shen Yu’s lips quivered with anger, but if the Princess already thought this way, then surely Zhenbei Wang did as well.

“Dairou!” Xiao Xiye said strictly, “What nonsense are you spewing? Am I someone like that? If you put it that way, Xuanxiao will misunderstand.”

The Princess replied with an “Oh”, muttering, “I just wanted to thank Concubine Yin. If it wasn’t for her, what if you had fallen into the pond as you were wandering around the manor?”

The group for the winter hunt entered a vast ice field, heading towards Langjuxu Mountain. There, the mountains were tall and the forests deep, with countless cliffs and multiple odd hills and rocks. Wild beasts ran rampant in this desolate area, and it acted as a natural barrier between the Xiongnu and Jing people.

Even though it was a winter hunt, the birds and beasts in Langjuxu Mountain were ideal prey.

Zhenbei Wang had ignored Shen Yu for three whole days. He put Shen Yu into a horse carriage, with food and water provided on a regular basis. He wasn’t cold nor hungry, but Zhenbei Wang did not show any personal care towards him.

Everyone else knew how to ride horses and shoot arrows. During the day, they would advance the hunt, occasionally bringing back prey such as deer. At night, they would set up camp and build a bonfire, breaking down the day’s catch to eat and drink to their hearts’ content.

Out of his fear that Shen Yu would catch a cold, Zhenbei Wang never let him leave the carriage. There was even a chamber pot prepared for when he needed it. Shen Yu wasn’t used to eating large amounts of meat, and also could not drink alcohol.

As a slave, he had even eaten grass roots and stale bread before, but he had become picky under Zhenbei Wang’s care.

It was also due to the turmoil during the early days of arriving at the manor, and being fed poison. Shen Yu’s body had collapsed to the point where eating red meat made his stomach turn. Even if he forced it down, he ended up vomiting it all out, and was too scared to tell Zhenbei Wang.

Shen Yu even looked down on himself.

With his carriage being the last one of the group, Shen Yu felt that he was a good-for-nothing burden.
