Chapter 60.1: Where is the precious relic

This is not the first time Wei Yingluo has suffered a theft.

As with the loss of the peacock thread at the Embroidery Workshop last time, she suspected that there was a conspiracy behind this coincidence.

This is not a thought to be shared with the others, they are already frightened enough, if they knew they had stepped into a trap, they would be even more frightened.

“Zhenzhu, don't cry, crying is not the answer.” Wei Yingluo said calmly, “Now I'll ask you the answer, first question, who was the first to return to the East Room?”

“Yes, it was me.” Zhenzhu replied, fearing that she might suspect him, she quickly defended himself, “I sneaked out to watch the fireworks, I was afraid that Mingyu's sister would find out, I came back before I finished watching the fireworks.”

Wei Yingluo nodded and said: “Was the precious relic still there?”

Zhenzhu shook her head, the crowd looked lost, thinking that the trail was about to be broken here.

Wei Yingluo thought for a moment and changed the question to: “Were you really the only one there, no one else?”

Zhenzhu racked his brain for a moment, suddenly his eyes lit up and he said: “No, there was someone else, I vaguely saw a man leaving through the door.”

Mingyu was overjoyed and said: “So, you saw the thief? What did he look like, was he a man or a woman, think!”

“Yes, yes...” Zhenzhu bit her lip and said with great care a name that was not expected, “It was Noble Lady Shu.”

Also the original owner of the stupa relic, Nara Chunxue.

“Well and a thief cries out for a thief, it's her!” Mingyu gritted her teeth and turned to run away.

“You think it's working?” Wei Yingluo's voice rang out behind her, “She was the one who sent the stupa precious relic into the palace, what reason would she have to steal them back when no one was looking? More importantly, for the fireworks to be set off, the candles were out in the corridor, who would believe the testimony of a court lady alone?”

“There was a huge firework in the air, it lit up the whole place, I could see her clearly!” Zhenzhu hastened to say.

“I believe you but others will not necessarily believe you.” Wei Yingluo said soothingly and then closed her eyes in contemplation.

The time was so short, the thieves would not have had time to get the object out of the palace and as the stupa precious relic were so valuable, the object was probably hidden on the thieves themselves.

“A search? That's not possible, what reason would there be to search the masters.” Wei Yingluo mused, “We'll have to ask her to take it out herself, is that even possible...”

   Possibly.

“I have a plan to find the culprit.” With a plan in mind, Wei Yingluo opened her eyes and said to the people around her, “But I need your help...”

The song and dance in the hall is coming to an end, Hongli is recovering from a serious illness, he can hardly stand it now, yawns, reclines in his chair and asks lazily: “What else is on?”

The Empress was about to answer when Mingyu suddenly came up to her, bent down and whispered something to her. At her words and a moment of doubt flashed across the Empress' face but with trust in Wei Yingluo, she smiled and said: “Your Majesty, in previous years the last act was always acrobatics, this year it's something different.”

Hongli was too sleepy to open his eyes, he simply closed them and said: “What is it?”

“The court ladies of my palace will present you with a gift.” The Empress said, “Yingluo, you may come up.”

Hongli's eyes snapped open like he was slapped.

Perhaps for the ceremony in front of the palace, she was usually dressed plainly but tonight she was dressed in a rare red dress, so red that no one could suppress such a beautiful colour but she could, with her face, with her smile and with her eyes as full as waves.

“... Yuhu, the light turned and a night of fish and dragons dancing, moths and willows of gold, smiled and smells.” For some reason, this poem is like the spring breeze that came quietly, blowing into Hongli's heart and a pool of ripples opening up in circles, “When I look back, that person is there... where the lights are dim.”

The light shone on Wei Yingluo's body and on the yellow silk she held in her hands, smiling faintly at Hongli, she suddenly throws it to the ground, the moment it falls lightly to the ground, it suddenly bulges into a large piece, Wei Yingluo leaned down and lifted the yellow silk, revealing a small, delicate glazed stupa.

Noble Consort Hui's sneer was a surprise amidst the gasps of the crowd, she stroked her tortoiseshell fingernails and said: “I thought it was something rare, it's just a trick, hiding the pagoda under her robe beforehand and then moving it out quietly when everyone's eyes were on the yellow carpet!”
