Episode 10: First, Kill The Illusion (Birdcage)

During class, I was kind of bothered and annoyed all the time.

This was because I saw Itsuki Sana trapped in her bird cage earlier. I know that she doesn’t want a life like that, but after growing up in that environment for years, she just doesn’t know how to change it. I’m sure of it. She’s miserable when she thinks about it.

It’s not because she is ladylike by choice, rather it’s because she has no choice due to the environment. “Ugaa! “Fungaa!” She should be a funnier girl, yelling and screaming… such a pity.

I was frustrated. I marched to class B to return the illustrations when lunch time came around.

Itsuki-san was surrounded by the wall, just like before, and trying to eat lunch. The smile she gave should have been beautiful, but it was just a fake smile within the birdcage. My heart aches just thinking about it.

I returned the illustrations to Sato and thanked him. Originally, I would have left afterwards.

But that smile, I’m sure there was something evil about it. No… I wonder what her smile would look like if she smiled from the heart. I want to see it if possible; I have such as desire to see it.

I didn’t know why my actions were the way they were, but if I did, I wanted someone to write a thesis on why I acted this way at this moment.

I charged into the “wall,” completely ignoring the stares of people around me. I arrived at the place where the five of them were huddled around the desk and walked right up to Itsuki-san.

When I suddenly approached, the four people gave me a wary look. I pretended to be oblivious to the fact that Itsuki-san was mouthing the words “Hey!?” to me.

Ignoring the wall, I stood in front of Itsuki-san and silently stared at her .

Her hands folded in front of her chest, and she looked as if she had no idea what she was going to do. Her aqua-blue eyes were wide open as she looked at me anxiously.

(Oh, that’s what you mean.)

That’s when something hit me. I realized that I was already in love with those big, blue eyes. I wanted to look at them more closely; I couldn’t help it.

I enjoyed the time I spent on the rooftop with her. I want to spend more time there.

Itsuki-san, take responsibility. I’m going to break you out of your birdcage even if it means something stupid like jumping off the roof.

Damn, I swear I am an idiot. I’m in the middle of the pack, but I’m an idiot. So much so that I want to scream, “GUGA!”

I took a deep breath and shouted.

“Hey, Sana.”

I dared to call her by her name.

Doing so, the glare of not only the “wall” but also the entire classroom came upon me and pierced me.

Now, I’m trying to make sense of this unintelligent rule created by the escalator group – you can only talk to Itsuki Sana with permission from the wall, or through the wall.

I violated this rule with impunity.

After yesterday’s incident where I was taken away, and now calling her by name, I completely violated the prohibition. Though I am an idiot so I’m not afraid of those things.

“Ha, habi!?”

Itsuki-san’s …no, Sana’s true colors came out a little bit. It’s funny, and it makes me smile. It’s better to be funny than to be absolutely ladylike.

“I want bread. Gonna buy some. Come with me. “

“What? BA BA BA, BREAD?! W-Why?”

Sana was looking around at the wall in confusion. The “wall” seemed to be unable to hide its surprise at my sudden outburst. Some of them are pointing their fingers and moving their mouths like a fish.

—My God.

This is the inexcusable nature of the world.

The rule that the escalators worked so hard to create is of no concern to an outsider like me. It’s easy to destroy it.

This s****y illusion you so desperately tried to protect; this world that trapped you within this birdcage, you could destroy it, but you must have the willpower to do so.

“We have to go early, don’t you know? A new type of bread is coming in today, and the fight for it is going to be fierce.”

“Oh, new bread!? But, um, well, um…”

Not knowing what to do, Sana looked around with a tearful face.

Oh God, you’re so annoying. I already know what you’re really thinking.

“Hey, you!? What’s with you all of a sudden?”

The “wall” came back to their senses and tried to stand in front of me, but I pushed them away.

You girls are no match for a man’s arm strength. This is also the absurdity of the world. If you’re ready to break that stupid rule, you can easily push it away.

“Come on, let’s go, Sana.”

I took Sana’s hand with the momentum of pushing away the “wall” and pulled her straight to the “wall” or rather outside the birdcage.

At that moment, I felt like the world had changed.

I had broken my own routine, and now her routine that had lasted for several years had also been broken.

I pulled her by the hand and walked her out of the classroom. She was coming along, and though she almost stumbled for a moment, she followed without resistance.

“New product, we’ll probably run out soon, so hurry up. Rumor has it it’s delicious.”

I looked at her and saw that Sana had a huge smile on her face.

“Yeah, I’m looking forward to it!”

The smile she showed me was not the ladylike, fake smile she had shown me earlier, but a full-hearted smile that was appropriate for her age and very cute.

“I don’t know if it’s good or not.”

“It’s a new product, so I can’t guarantee that.”

“Rumor has it that it’s delicious so I don’t know.”

“If it doesn’t taste good, you can scream.”

“No, I won’t!”

We had a lot of fun talking about it. Ever since we first talked yesterday, I couldn’t forget how much I enjoyed it, and I couldn’t help but love it.

I wanted to talk to her like this more and more… I thought, and gently squeezed her small, soft hand.
