Episode 5: For Some Reason, I Was Really About To Jump Off
“––Jump off from here.”
When I said that, Sai-san looked up at me astonishingly. Her blue and beautiful eyes were shivering.
“W-What does that mean…?”
“If you want, I can jump off right now. If you don’t believe me.”
I was saying something I didn’t expect. I had no intention of dying, but what should I do if I was told to jump off here then? Just do it?
I don’t like it. I’ll definitely die…
“Huh. There’s no way you will do that, right?”
Immediately returning to her calm face, she spat out.
“I’ll do it.”
It’s a lie. I can’t. I don’t want to.
“There’s no benefit to you in doing that!”
Her frustration made her speak louder.
That’s right. There were no benefits but…
“There are merits.”

“… I can earn your trust.”
Itsuki-san’s aqua blue eyes were wide open to those words. Her mouth gape open as well.
“At least my words weren’t lies. I can tell you that.”
I’m not sure if I want to die just for that. Isn’t my life worth too little?
I just thought that… these words would be effective on her. She doesn’t have any allies around her that she can trust. So I wanted to be someone she could trust— that’s what I was starting to think.
One more push. Having made that decision, I grabbed the wire mesh and climbed the fence.
“Wait!? What are you doing?”
“You don’t seem to believe me yet, so I thought I’d just stand on the other side of the fence.”
I climbed up the wire mesh. As I climbed to the top of the fence, I realized that it was… INSANELY SCARY.
However, I could see the town far into the distance. The blue sky in May was so clear and far away that I felt like I could really fly from here.
(But I don’t think I can fly…)
When I looked at the concrete directly below me, I could easily imagine my brain matter being splattered all over it. It would be painful.
“What if you fall!? It’s dangerous.”
“You want me to die, don’t you?”
As I asked this, I leaned over the fence to get to the other side of the wire mesh.
Just leaning out halfway to the other side greatly scared me. I felt my whole body abandoning me. I had climbed up here to be cool, but I regretted to death doing what I shouldn’t have done.
“Please wait.”
“What?”
“Because… you haven’t told anyone yet. About the pinpuri.”
“Yeah.”
“So… That’s okay, don’t die.”
She squirmed, looking somewhat embarrassed.
If it wasn’t for this kind of conversation, I’m sure I would have thought the gesture was cute.
“Really? Then I’m glad.”
I sighed and climbed down the wire fence.
She must be very distrustful of people if she doesn’t believe me.
“You, are you stupid?! What was that!?”
She grabbed me as I got off the wire fence, almost crying.
“If you jumped in front of me, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself…”
She hit me in the shoulder and buried her face in my chest.
I’m sure she had told me to die many times earlier… But the thought of being this close to that Saint-sama made my heart palpitate. Her fancy and good smell enveloped me.
“To be trusted… It’s too stupid…”

“My grades are average.”
“I’m the very best. From now on, you should call me Itsuki-sama.”
“You don’t like pinpuri because you don’t have any friends in your grade.”

She pushed me away and started scratching her hair. She’s also making strange noises again.
“Gosh… You! You said you wouldn’t say pinpuri! You lied! Isn’t a liar usually a thief!? Are you going to shoplift at the convenience store on your way home!? You’re disgusting! You’d get reported, and your parents would cry, and you’d regret it to death?”

The story was so far-fetched that I couldn’t say anything.
“I haven’t told anyone else. Isn’t it okay to say that to Itsuki-san, whom I promised not to?”
