Chapter 47: Confusion

It's the first time that Stacey came out of her room when she heard that her best friend was there. All night, she cried and then drew her feelings toward him. She just made a story. A scenario. It'll be a short one and she doesn't plan to publish it since it's a private one. She didn't get to sleep or eat at all although Maverick knocked in front of her room many times with a tray of food. She didn't even eat or drink.
"Why do you look pale?" Victoria asked.
"Oh~~work…" She said.
Victoria exhaled but even though she's thinking about her husband, she still noticed her best friend. She's that caring toward Stacey. Maverick came with a tray of drinks and snacks. Stacey didn't even touch it but Maverick took a glass of water and extended it to her.
"Something is going on right now," Caleb said. "Why did he leave?"
"It's an emergency when Loren called. He said about an allergic reaction." Victoria reached her lemonade and sipped on it. Stacey took the glass and sipped on it. It tasted good so she finished it and put it away.
"Stace, you need to eat," Maverick told her.
Stacey nodded but she didn't touch any food. Victoria sighed.
"I just need a break," Victoria mumbled.
"I am sure that he had reasons," Maverick told her to calm her down. "V, you trust him, right?"
"Yes, I do. He's my husband."
"Then, you have to let him protect you," Maverick said confidently.
Victoria found out that Maverick knew something from his words. If Maverick knows about Secretary Loren and why he suddenly left, then she needed the information from him.
"What do you know?"
"I won't tell a thing, Victoria. Ask your husband."
"Okay, I'm gonna go and pee," Stacey said as she left. Victoria glanced at Caleb but he shrugged at her. Then, they watched as Maverick left too, following Stacey.
"So, what's up with those two?" Victoria asked Caleb.
"When I came here, Stacey didn't come to eat even though Maverick did deliver food to her room."
"Something happened to them last night!" Victoria concluded.

"You see, it's very easy to see the spark between them. But one is resisting." Victoria shrugged. "It's probably Maverick."
"Hmm, didn't he see how beautiful and sexy my cousin is? That man is stupid." Caleb crossed his arms. "Unless he's avoiding her with a reason."
"The reason should be acceptable. Or else, I'll cut his thing." She mumbled.

"No." She shook her head.
"But you knew well that I won't stay here for long."
"No." She held his hand over her cheeks. "Don't leave…" She may sound desperate but there's no way that she would let him go. "I don't care even if you don't have a job. Just stay here."
Maverick pulled her into a big hug and held the back of her head. He had fallen in love with her in a very short time but he can't be with her. He wanted to kiss her and make love to her but he just couldn't. Once he goes back to his life, he had to stay away from her to protect her.
She looked up at him, broken.
"You have to eat. Don't skip any meal. Okay?"

Kenzo immediately removed his face mask and approached the King's bed. He sat beside his grandfather. Seeing the blemishes on his skin makes his heart ached. The old man opened his eyes as he removed the oxygen mask.
"Kenzo." He called in a hoarse voice.
"I'm here, Grandpa." He bent down and kissed his forehead.
"Your wife? Whe~~where's your wife?" He asked.
"I left her at her friend's house. She's safe there."
"I'm sorry that you can't bring your wife here. They set up a trap to find you. They knew that you would meet me. I can't risk you again, my Prince."
"Don't worry, grandpa. I'll be fine and I'll protect my wife."
"Yes, you should. Once that they know about your wife, they will also use her against us." He coughed and closed his eyes slowly. "Go to your wife now. I'll be fine here with Secretary Loren."
"Grandpa, let me stay with you a little bit."

"This might be all over the news. But, you have to stay safe."

"Take the money, move somewhere safer." The old man said.

The old man laughed mixed with coughs as he smiled at his grandson.
