Michael was the first one to react. Lana froze when she noticed how he was rising from his seat and keeping his eyes o her face approached closer, and closer ... She was ready to step back when the man stopped only a few inches from her and leaned over, examining her eyes intently. Lana felt really uncomfortable under his stare. His face was so close that she could count all of his eyelashes, and there were a lot of them for a man...
"Can you do it very slowly, like in slow motion?" - He whispered in his hoarse voice, forcing Lana to blush instantly.
"Mike!" - Snapped Greg, pushing his friend away. - "Are you crazy? This is still my girlfriend! One more stunt like this and I'm gonna beat you in slow motion!"
Michael's face hasn't changed at all. He shrugged indifferently and spoke.
" I, basically, don't care whose girl she is. She does not interest me as a woman, but rather as a unique phenomenon. Does she have a tail?"
"For you - no!" - Greg barked, pulling the girl to him. Kissing her temple, he spoke in a disgruntled tone already turning to Lana. - "Do not pay attention to him, dear, this man has long gone nuts with his prisoners. Soon we will be forced to put him behind bars too, as a very dangerous threat to humanity. Cause his brain seems to go south long ago."
Lana raised her eyebrows in surprise. Greg never really talked about these two of his friends. She asked a couple of times when their names surfaced in conversation, but Greg had a rather strange principle. If you want to know something about a person - ask him yourself. Noticing the question in the eyes of the girl, Greg looked at Michael, as if asking for permission. The guy nodded silently.
"Michael is a prison psychiatrist. A fairly well-known figure in certain circles." - Greg explained. - "Well, as of now he is also the personal psychiatrist of some people whose names should not be called out loud."
"Loyal customers," - Michael added coldly. Lana frowned, for some reason it seemed to her that it was a joke. Although the facial expression of a man was complicated unchanged.
"I see." - she drawled, not knowing how to react to such information. - "Then why did Mrs. Brown get so scared when you called his name?"
" I can do my job well." - Mike answered shortly.
"Oh! You're so modest!" - scoffed Tony coming closer and leaning on his friend's shoulder, patted him on the chest. - "Mike can pull information from almost anyone you want. And many services, knowing this, try to stay on his good side. Plus, among his clients, there are several former acquaintances of my daddy, if you understand what I mean?"
"Oh! Well..." - Lana with a new interest looked at the guy who was still staring at her with curiosity and offered as a sign of goodwill. - "Of course, I can't shift very slowly. It will not be an enjoyable experience, but if you want, I can transform completely."
Mike's eyes immediately flashed with keen interest. He had already opened his mouth to agree, as Greg interrupted him in mid-sentence.
"No! Lana is not a circus animal! It seems you are too talkative today. I prefer when you are playing mute much better." - he growled threateningly scowling at his friend.
"This is from a shock." - Mike replied apathetically. Tony snorted choking on laughter.
"Greg, sorry for interrupting your flirting." - chimed in Paul, still set on talking some sense into his friend. - " I wonder, you dumped a rich lady for the sake of a girl who left you once before and is not quite a human either? I understand that all women are witches, but don't you feel like you're going too far with it?! I didn't expect such strange inclinations from you!" - Paul grumbled, throwing a wary glance on Lana. She smiled even wider, showing a toothy maw in all its glory. The man immediately turned pale and drove a couple of steps back.
"Do not pay attention to him, too, Lana." - Said Tony, trying to redeem his friend somehow. - "Paul is a famous woman-hater. Men with complicated divorce cases are ready to sell their souls so that this misogynist with a tendency to misanthropy protects them in court. Him being a good layer is an only good point to his bad personality." - It didn't sound as much of redemption, but Tony just couldn't find a much positive thing to say about this grumpy cat.
"Too many complex words," - Greg smirked, glancing at his friend, - "It's just an ordinary seprmotoxicosis if you ask me."
"Let's see what you say when your Ruslana dump you for a muscular and tanned fitness trainer, clearing all your accounts." - Paul snarled mostly by habit and immediately bit his tongue, noticing a malicious glint in the girl's eyes.
"This is actually quite easy to solve, Paul. I'll be her only fitness trainer and not only fitness... " - Greg purred, kissing Lana in her sharpened ear. Paul grimaced and retched.
" Ok, let's stop mocking the flawed man. Have some pity, Greg!" - Frank decided to stand up for his friend, walking up to Paul. - "Here, take it. This will surely calm you down. I know you will like it!"
Paul looked curiously at the weighty folder in Frank's hands.
"What is it?" - He asked carefully, ready for any surprises now.
"This is all the details that we were able to gather about what is happening. A complete description of the secret government of the shifters, secrets, crimes, and even the law book of a mythical Council. All the thing you love!"
Paul started to tremble from overexcitement. Frank had not yet finished the sentence, as Paul had already ripped the folder out of his hands. Having found the nearest chair, the guy fished out his glasses from his pocket and went deep into reading this instant as if there was no one it the room.
" Okay, now we lost him for two hours." - commented Tony, grinning. - What do we do in the meantime?"
"How about still watching Lana shifting entirely?" - Said Mike with hope in his voice, though his face remained indifferent.
"No!" - Greg snapped, pushing the girl behind him.
"How about a poker party then?" - Tony offered with a wide, sly smile, taking a pack of cards out of his pocket.

***

When Paul finally turned the last sheet in the folder and looked away from the paper, the rest had already practically robbed Frank. Tony and Mike had a fight, although it seemed very one-sided. Anthony was offended and tried to punish his friend with silence, cause Mike won all his money and even a favorite tie. But gave up in about two minutes. Greg glowed with pride, although he also lost entirely, Lana was still going strong in the game, and that made Greg this delighted.
Although the girl tried to hint to Greg a couple of times that it was utterly immoral and they should tell the others about her scent and excellent hearing abilities that make you feel a lie from afar. But Greg responded by gently pinching her thigh and whispering.
"If you tell it to them, then I'll have to share the traits of our connection with Mike, too. And believe me, after that you will experience all the funny stuff from behavior psychology on yourself."
Lana had no choice but to continue the game and to boost the vanity of this impossible man with her victories. What can't you do for love!?
In the end, only Lana and Mike were left with the cards in their hands. But with each new victory, she noted more and more suspicion in the eyes of her opponent, the girl diligently tried to find a way to surrender imperceptibly. So when Paul cleared his throat to draw attention to himself and taped the folder with a hint, she immediately dropped the cards, not noticing how the corner of Mike's lips rose slightly upwards.
Seeing that everyone had finally paid full attention to him, Paul adjusted his glasses on the bridge of his nose and began in a businesslike tone.
"From the whole situation that is described in these documents, I can only draw one conclusion. We all die!"
The silence fell over the room.
"Very positive, Paul! But we would like to hear your professional opinion and not your personal view on life." - Said Greg sarcastically.
"No, it was actually my professional prediction," - he shrugged, replying in a completely calm voice. - "Think about it. You seem like the biggest bone in a throat of this Ian Winterborn, even just because you merely breathe. This girl Leib, Martin and others are just ways to get you into a corner. Here, you can see everything between the lines. As soon as Lana's sweet daddy feels that you are in the deepest sh*t, and have no way out, you will most likely receive some interesting offer from him."
Hearing the explanation of Paul, Greg immediately frowned. Suspicions began to appear in his mind long ago. But to believe that all these troubles were related to his relationship with Lana was too hard.
"But Angela hardly knew about all this. She started her black work even before Greg met Lana again." - Hurried to protest Frank.
"It's not about stealing," - Michael said suddenly. Friends have already managed to tell him the essence of the matter in a nutshell during the game of cards. - "But her behavior has changed too drastically, as soon as Lana appeared on the horizon. Before, she had allowed girls to approach Greg without any concern. The question is, why she suddenly felt Lana as a threat? Plus, the state of Martin also quite clearly shows that someone fed him the necessary information, nurturing his psychosis and aggression."
" That's it!" - Paul agreed immediately, not giving the rest of them the time to digest what they heard - "Everything comes down to only one result. Someone wants to put Greg under control. After all, it is not so hard for werewolves to get rid of you. Someone wants something from you very much. And there is only one option left."
Greg sat back in his chair, considering the situation. After the words of friends, the puzzle pieces fell into place, but something was still missing.
"I understand that by announcing our reluctance with Lana publicly, I literally stuck a knife Lana's Father in the back. And the murder of Martin might very well have been a warning. But why this damn Alpha male never tried just to offer me a deal?" - Greg himself understood that now anger and pride spoke in him. But he hated to feel like a pawn, a pawn, which meant as a sacrifice.
"And what if he did?" - Frank sounded odd. His face suddenly looked like a mask, his cheekbones sharpened, and his eyes seemed cold. - "What if Ian Winterborn made you decide. Lana or everything you built for all these years. What would you choose?"
"I would only accept everything at once!" - without thinking, responded Greg. - "I don't give a sh*t about his plans because I have mine."
Friends looked at each other, sly smiles appeared on their faces.
"Then I think it is worth letting you know some of my ideas." - Said Paul, moving his notebook closer.
"I did not expect anything less from you! - Said Greg with a satisfied smile. - " Come on! State your diabolical plan."
