Risa clenched her fists and knelt beside the broken she-wolf, that could barely open her eyes filled with pain.
"Shhh... Bear with it a little." - The girl whispered, running the tips of her fingers through the fur of the animal. She was trying with all her might to remember everything that her friend, who owned the animal shelter in which she had been working before she met Brian, taught to her. Risa often had to help her friend reset the bones of unfortunate animals after a car accident or a cruel treatment from the owners. But now she didn't even know how to start, although it was necessary to hurry, the regeneration process may soon begin to heal the bones incorrectly.
Taking a deep breath, Risa stepped over to work, trying not to pay attention to the rumble of the door and the muffled growl of a she-wolf, that stoically endured all the pain, although she was trembling all over.
Five more minutes passed when the door outside clanged and began to open. Brian wriggled out of its way and lay low.
"What happened?" - They heard a sharp voice from the other side. The speaker didn't enter the cell, stopping at the doorway and tried to see the prisoners in the dark.
" Hurry up! We need help! " - Rice didn't even have to portray the panic on her face. The man at the door stuck his head in, trying to figure out what was going on. He stared at the she-wolf on the floor for only a second, then the guy inhaled sharply finally getting what he was seeing.
"Mrs. Winterbourne ?!" - He exclaimed in a panic, running into the camera and stopping at the animal's body - "How? Why would you?"
By luck, the guy turned out to be part of the pack and knew Alpha female well. She was respected and loved by everyone.
The guy looked helplessly, not knowing what to do. At this very moment, Brian abruptly slammed his shoulder into the door, shutting it. The cell felt into darkness again. The guard jerked to the entrance but did not have time to make a step as something heavy hit his temple. Consciousness went out in his eyes even before the body dropped to the floor.
Veronika sank to her knees behind him, too, releasing a heavy chain from her hands. She was already in the human form but still didn't look much better than in the beast's body. Risa moved to her with the intention to help somehow.
" I'm fine." - Croaked a woman stopping her. - "Fortunately, not many know that if after such a turn, you'll quickly shift back, then most of the broken bones will fall into place. So I'm pretty sure that in half an hour I will be like new. Stop worrying unnecessarily."
Risa held her outstretched hand, getting a feeling that Veronika didn't want to be touched right now at all. Perhaps it was true about the bones, but the pain that she had to endure could not be comparable. The woman was still shaking, and her eyes become duller. Even though the blood had already dried up, and the smaller cuts began to close, but gushing wounds on the forearms and thighs still looked terrible.
"Risa, what are you standing here for? Go, search this guy." - Veronika commanded, gritting her teeth. Risa shuddered, coming to herself and moved into action. Fortunately, the guy had not only the keys to the camera with him but also the key to the chains.
As soon as the girl managed to free Brian, he reached out with a groan and grabbed her in his arms. Risa burrowed deeper into his embrace, trying to find some coverage there.
" Now there is no time for this!" - The gruff voice of she-wolf interrupted their moment. - "You need to leave right now."
Brian moved to the mother ready to help her stand up. But Veronika brushed him off.
" I said, Leave! Now!" - She snapped at him. Cringing from the pain, it caused her. But her stare remains firm.
"But mom!" - Brian began, his voice shook a bit. - "We can't leave you here!"
"No, son. This is my pack, and I'm not going anywhere. You have to protect Risa and Lana. I must protect those people who trusted me all these years. I will not let Ian leade them to hell! That's my duty!"
Her voice was quiet, but for some reason, it seemed to Brian that he heard metal ringing in it. Her eyes showed that she had already made up her mind and it was not up for discussion. The man clenched his fists, struggling with the final decision.
"Okay. But promise me that you will not allow the father to harm you in any way. Otherwise, I will have to rip his rotten heart out of his chest with my own hands."
Mother smirked and nodded in agreement.
"Don't worry, dear. Once I was the only opponent who could stand against your father in a fight. I may not be young anymore, but this bastard is no longer a cake, too!"
Brian snorted, not expecting such dirty words from his mother. But Risa was not about to give up so simply. She brushed of Brian's hand and crouched near Veronika.
"No, we will not leave you." - The girl said determinedly, grabbing the woman's wrist and trying to lift her by force. Veronica grimaced and hissed through her teeth in pain, making Risa let her go. While the girl nervously tried to think up another plan, she caught her hand and squeezed it a bit.
"Listen carefully, girl." - Veronica whispered looking directly into Risa's scared eyes. - "Now you are not only Brian's Mate but also the future mother of his pups. Do not repeat my mistake. Think of your family first. Do not rely on pride, listen to the heart. That how mothers do their work best."
Risa stopped, not knowing what to do. Her principles, feelings, fears formed a total mess in her head. And hormones add some spice into it. Some rustle sounded behind the door. The time was up. And Brian decided for her. With a jerk, he flung the door open, grabbed the girl across the waist and threw her into the air. Risa only managed to squeal once, and the next moment she landed onto the back of a huge white wolf, clinging to his fur with her fingers.
The beast turned its muzzle checking Risa and then threw the last glance at the mother, shortly barked and darted off.
They literally flew through a narrow corridor. Risa tried to bury her face deeper into the soft fur and held on with all her strength. Some other guy was waiting for them over the corner, probably the second guard. But the man didn't have time to shift. So without stopping Brian just rammed into him at full speed, sending him off against the wall.
The mad dash continued. Someone else probably attempted to stop them, but Risa shut her eyes and ignored the screams, sounds of blows and clatter. Soon they were finally on the stairs, climbing up. Brian knocked down the door with his body and flew outside.
Someone must have managed to report the escape because from the side of the manor a rattling and yelling was coming their way. Brian froze for a second, assessing the situation, and then jumped to the side, moving away from the dart that whooshed by. Not waiting for any more shots the wolf turned sharply and rushed to the bottom of the nearby bushes.
Risa pressed herself deeper into the back of her beloved beast, praying to all the saints that their pursuers would just stumble all at once and give them time to escape.
