Greg was slowly snicking between the trees, continually turning around and listening carefully to every rustle. Since he realized where he really was, he began to feel that someone was watching him. The man shuddered when he heard another howl, but when it died down, and silence descended around, it became even more spooky.
Thousands of scenarios were spinning around in Greg's head. But he still couldn't decide which option to chose. Staying on the beach, which was viewed from all sides, he would quickly become a living target. Besides, he still has to be here for 2 or 3 days, or even more. Finding shelter and at least some water source was necessary. But deep into the jungle, Greg immediately realized his mistake.
The vegetation around was too dense, and it was almost impossible to see what or who was a stone's throw away from him. Besides, the shifters who could live here have a much better sense and vision. He will not even have time to hiccup before they ambush and gobble him whole.
A little hope was given by the suit, which was still on Greg. Although it was somewhat strange, that nobody tried to get Greg naked...
Greg began to appear suspicions about Ian even when they were heading for the airport, and the suit became another confirmation. With this story, everything was not as simple as it seemed. Mr. Winterbourne seamed nothing like a crazy ideological fanatic who set out to develop super-shifters just for his own benefit or for world domination. Greg intuition told him that there should be something else. But the main question that bothered Greg the most was, why does he need this research and super-shifters for? How would he use them, if it was a success?
Distracted by his thoughts, Greg did not notice how the surrounding landscape had changed slightly. The soil became rocky, and the road slowly began to climb up, and vegetation thinned a bit.
Even when they flew by plane, Greg managed to see a rather high mountain in the south of the island. And it seems now he has begun to climb one of its slopes.
Noticing this, Greg stopped and looked around. Perhaps it was an excellent chance to find some cave where he could hide. The sun was already beginning to roll towards sunset, and the prospect of sleeping in the open or like a koala in the branches of trees was looking so bright.
Every minute the slope became steeper, and after some time the guy had to climb using his arms and legs. Greg began to feel a bit tired and thirsty. Besides, his side ached after being it by Ian, although the wound was not deep and had already stopped bleeding, it still irritated him.
He paused, checking the bandage, which he was able to make on the beach from leaves and several thin vines. It took him quite some time to tear it by hands, as his knives were obviously taken by Ian's men. Unfortunately, the suit's control panel was also lost during the battle, and the autopilot seemed to be disconnected due to its remoteness from the computer that was controlled by Marina.
"Damn, I'd rather not show off and put on one of the old prototypes back then. At least they can be controlled on their own. And now from this shitty suit is dead stuff. Good for nothing trash." - Growled Greg, angrily kicking a stone at his feet. He put so much negative emotion into this blow that he didn't even understand what had happened next. As soon as his boot, which was also made of nanomaterial, connected with the stone, there was a sharp crackling sound and the rock fired as if from a pistol. The speed was crazy!
Greg watched in disbelief as it flew into the sky and disappeared from view in just a second. Then he turned a surprised look on his leg.
"What the hell?" - He muttered, looking at the fabric of the suit, which brightened slightly in several places, and then returned to normal.
A sudden thought made him quickly find another stone, a little bigger this time. Greg concentrated on trying to analyze his feelings. For some reason, that moment immediately came to mind when he controlled four of the werewolves at the same time during their buggy race. The way he gave them orders and transmitted his thoughts as if sending images.
Bam!
Part of the stone crumbled into small crumb, and the rest of the piece with a whistle disappeared into the sky. The fabric on the legs slightly changed color in those places where the muscles were involved. But the most surprising thing was that Greg himself almost did not have to strain to kick the stone with such force. He barely felt the kick himself.
"What the hell is going on ?!" - he screamed in horror and excitement altogether, suddenly realizing that by some miracle he could mentally control his nano suit. - "Maybe I'm a medium? Telepathic? Mega brain? WoooW!"
The first thing that occurred to him was to try and scan the entire island, mentally. Greg stood in a beautiful position, as shown in the films. His arms outstretched to the sides tensed.
He strained so much that even his costume began to glow like a Christmas tree. But the result was zero.
"Heck." - He swore, giving up and kicking another stone with resentment. Only this time the boulder with a whistle crashed into the bushes near him, causing a crash and the sound of breaking branches. Greg listened with interest, trying to figure out how far this missile could fly. Only then he does not at all expect that the sound of the stone breaking through the bushes will end in a sharp roar.
"Oh, shit!" - Greg whispered in a panic, realizing that the sound of breaking branches now did not move away at all, but on the contrary, approached him. He looked around for a place where he could hide, but he did not have time to take a step before a huge beast entered the small clearing.
"Oh, f*ck me!" - Greg cried in shock, looking at the enormous polar bear, who, noticing him, got up on his hind legs and began to move. Some of his claws were elbow-length and looked like sabers. Greg had to lift his head back just to see his muzzle and a maw which seemed very promising...
Two ideas came together in his mind, one crazy than the other. On the one hand, he could run, praying that his suit will help him. But on the other ... For some reason, he really wanted to test the abilities of his new suit in the other way.
"This is a very, very bad idea!" - Greg stated, taking a fighting stance.
When the bear was already a step away from him and began to lift a massive paw for a strike, Greg crouched slightly and mentally sending a signal to the zone of the legs, leaped in the air with all strength. This time, he succeeded to calculate the jump correctly. The suit responded to his mental commands so accurately and quickly that he easily managed to turn over in the air and hit the bear directly in the face with a boot, and then bounced off to land on the feet to the side. That was one hell of a kick!
"Wow! Yea, I am a damn Batman! Eat my mighty kick!" - Greg shouted with delight, but his enthusiasm immediately subsided, as soon as he saw that even his stunning attack had no particular effect on the beast. The big furry guy shook the snout and roared in rage, looking for his opponent with small bloodshot eyes.
"Uh-oh!" - Greg squeezed out. And immediately was forced to jump aside, moving away from the sharp blow of a massive paw.
"It was a really bad idea!" - Was the last thought that flashed in his head before he took off and rushed into the jungle. But the bear didn't even think about letting his enemy go so easily. With a curse, Greg heard a mad roar following him, and then the sound of breaking branches and stomps.
Fortunately, the suit made his running easier, but the bear was also not so simple.
Greg twice changed the direction of the run, when the evil monster was practically catching up. But the bear still followed closely, almost licking his heels. Greg almost felt his smelly breath on his neck.
Seeing a very tall tree in the distance, Greg added speed and without hesitation literally flew up, climbing like a monkey. But the trunk quickly began to thin, and he had to stop, catching his breath.
By that time, the bear had already reached the tree and growled, walking in circles around the trunk. Bam! The beast stepped back a little and crashed into its column with all its body. Bam! Bam! It was growling and slamming into the tree as if possessed.
Greg panicked, grabbing the vines that helped him to climb so high, feeling as the tree begin to swing. The bear roared, doubling the effort, but it was not so easy to win against probably a few hundred old trees. After the fifth strike, the beast finally gave up and retreated a few steps, lifting his ugly mug and glaring at Greg.
"Well, freak! Already giving up?! That was fun, but go snuff some daisies now!" - Greg shouted mockingly, sticking his tongue out and immediately bit it, seeing the beast stand on its hind legs and begin to transform. Only here instead of a man, as was expected, now there was an ugly monster standing below and staring with rade at Greg. Part of the figure looked like a human, shoulders, chest, and legs to the knees. But everything else ... This view reminded Greg a bit of Ian, only with a bear face and a huge hump on his back. And claws ... These demonic claws ...
Greg did not even have time to get scared when the shifter jumped upwards. He stuck claws into the trunk and bounced off a meter or so up, clinging to the tree again, and then repeated the motion without stopping.
Greg looked around in a panic, the nearest tree was 5 meters away, but the crowns were so thick that they completely intertwined with each other. And vines hung here and there, causing Greg to had a new stupid idea.
Having once again glanced at the infuriated shifter who already practically reached him. Greg sighed deeply and jumped out, emitting the cry of Tarzan.
Fortunately, he managed to cling to the nearest vine and fly to the tree branch on acceleration.
After finally climbed on the next tree, Greig glanced back and almost turned gray, seeing as this monster also followed him in big leaps. And those beady red eyes were mirroring exactly how painful will be Greg's death if he catches him.
"A very, very bad idea! I'm so doomed!" - Greg signed and turning around, ran along a thick branch, jumping on the next vine with the same cry. At least he can have so fun before death!
