Chapter 35

It happened when we were about 200 meters away from the entrance of the castle.

“Wha…!”

Suddenly a magical reaction appeared in front of me, and then it bounced and flashed.

I was able to come out in front of Sasakura-san the moment I felt the magical reaction, but I saw the flash directly and the light burned into my eyes and blocked my vision.

However, because I felt several magical reactions from the castle approaching towards us one after another, I ignored my lost sight and deployed a barrier from the magic circle I created at my feet to protect me and Sasakura-san.

Then, the magical reaction that I felt hit the barrier one after another and was all scattered and disappeared without a trace.

While confirming that the barrier did not waver no matter how much magic was blocked, I quickly healed my eyes by casting a magic circle on the surface of my eyes that would crawl and heal every nerve entirely.

“Are you all right!?”

“It’s okay, I was just a little dizzy, and I had already cured it.”

“Is that so, thank goodness…”

I smiled and told the worried Sasakura-san that there was no problem, to which she showed a sign of relief.

In fact, there was no noticeable damage other than being blinded by the flash, and in the first place it was just a non-lethal magic that only emitted light.

Well, that’s why I couldn’t react until it appeared in front of me.

The -ji’s who most likely have experienced a number of scenes like this should be able to detect such things instinctively, and their detection abilities should be shared to me, but the experience I could get in this peaceful Japan was overwhelmingly insufficient.

If it’s something that would not directly damage me, my reaction would definitely be delayed.

“Still, I couldn’t believe they’re so stupid”

“Well, it’s one of the things I expected.”

I nodded to Sasakura-san’s angry mutter while sighing.

Rather than holding a tournament properly, this act was just trying to erase us without any no negotiation.

Foolish, but it was also what I had expected in advance.

Despite that, it was a blunder that I lost my sight, and I was allowing them to do what they want too much.

By the way, the textbook response I was expecting was either there would be unfair rules or judging at the tournament, or they would suddenly say that I had no participation right in the first place.

Then they would boldly order me from above, or try to catch me unaware after pretending that the negotiation for non-interference was successful, or maybe they would do another one or two of their schemes while expecting me to be very foolish. That situation was what I expected.

However, if I thought about it carefully, would this have been the favorite textbook response?

It looks like I was giving a fairly kind evaluation of the League.

By the way, what would never be was for them to understand our difference in ability from the last time I came here, apologize to us regardless of the results of the tournament, and make a promise of non-interference.

Umu, that was absolutely impossible.

“But I’m getting tired of their endless attacks. No matter how much you stack up 0, it would still be 0.”

“I think they are aware of the lack of response to their attacks, but…”

While saying that, Sasakura-san was channeling magical powers throughout her body so that she can act no matter what happens.

If so, this meant that this situation was too simple for her, who knew the magicians of the league to some extent.

In other words, they were probably continuing this attack with some aim.

Then, as Sasakura-san noticed something, she stepped out a little and focused her eyes.

“Shinjou-kun, there! It’s well concealed, but there’s a huge magical reaction!”

“That means, we’re stranded!”

She pointed to the upper floor of the castle and informed me that there was a magical reaction there.

When I concentrated to where she was pointing, I could barely see magical powers slightly leaking that was forming a haze, but that was it.

However, I didn’t doubt Sasakura-san’s words. It was certain that there was a big magical reaction there.

It seemed that Sasakura-san was better at this kind of concealment, and that’s why she was able to detect that there was a big reaction in the haze.

“I can’t judge how powerful it is because I can’t sense it well…”

“Then, won’t you let me to deal with it? I think it’s safe enough to see what the reaction the other person’s magical power would be.”

“Well… It’s a bit pathetic, but I think we should we avoid the risk”

I wasn’t sure what the opponent’s attack was, so I was wondering what to do, but then I was tapped on the shoulder by Sasakura-san who declared to leave it to her.

Judging from her motivated appearance, it looked like this was a decision, not a proposal.

I didn’t want to dampen her mood by refusing her offer, and it was certain that she would handle it better than me who was not quite able to sense the magical power, so I left it to her.

“Yeah, leave it to me. Now… in return!”

When she pointed at the castle as she said that, a huge amount of magical power instantly gathered at her fingertips and was released.

I immediately responded to the released magical power by momentarily making a hole on the barrier as if it was just a matter of course, to which Sasakura-san smiled.

Even so, it was amazing how much control she has in converging all that magical power in an instant.

This was her true power as a magician.

It was small but was compressed with enormous magical power that, like a bullet, shot straight to the castle, through a small window, and soon after.

A sudden flash of light came out of the window, and then with a loud crash the walls of the castle were blown away from the inside, and the upper floors were completely gone.

I also confirmed that people were blown away in the rubble, but there were magicians that could fly in some way that were recovering them.

“It’s a very… flashy thing”

“What I did was to return the flash magic. The other thing was that the huge magical power went out of control and exploded after the other magician’s concentration was disrupted … even if they were rotten, they were still magicians who had fought in the underworld. I’m afraid that they lived.”

It’s easy to say, but I thought it’s quite difficult just to pull off that flash magic.
Then she had to shoot it directly, relying only on the detected magical powers of the magician that was out of sight.
I mean, if you think of this as our form of defense, then we had to hit them before they activated it.

“Oh, the attacks also stopped… was that their trump card?”

“The barrier not being shaken no matter how much they attack must have fueled a sense of helplessness too, I guess?”

We thought about it for a while and then I cancelled the barrier.

As if they hadn’t given up completely, attacks flew again as I had expected, but they all stopped just before hitting me and was instead redirected to the other magicians all around the area.

It was possible to return it like this, regardless of what magic it was, as long as it had been disconnected from their control in favor of the impact speed.

And, it was not necessary to catch it by hand to take control of it.

“Now, let’s destroy their fighting spirit…”

It was about time to end this farce, so I pointed one hand towards heaven and created a large two-layered magic circle.

Then a small fireball appeared in the sky.

At first, it was very tiny, but it quickly became huge and became a fireball that was about 2m wide.

It was like a small sun if you looked at it.

However, there was no nuclear fusion happening, so this fireball was only sun-like in its appearance.1

However, the fireball was still just like the image of the sun, and just by being there it was radiating a huge amount of heat to the surroundings.

We were protected by another magic circle I made at the same time, but it was a different story for the magicians in the castle.
Although they could defend, they would probably not be able to endure soon.

In the first place, this magic was not a magic that was meant to give of heat to the surroundings, but it was one that was to be thrown at the opponent.

The heat wave itself was only a side effect.

Well, I couldn’t throw it because I was not supposed to kill them.

“Wow… this is amazing.”

“Isn’t it? It has an easy-to-understand look so it’s nice to look at it. Could Sasakura-san use the magic that lets my voice be heard from far away? It’s hard for me to use another magic while maintaining this fireball.”

“I could do it, leave it to me.”

The one who developed this magic was A-ji the group transfer survivor, who was in charge of developing cool magic.

Its power had been verified by the hero, B-ji, and it had been found that a cast could erase one mountain in the tough world.

While laughing at Sasakura-san’s simple impression of such dangerous magic, I asked her to project my voice far away, to which she readily agreed.

Then, I took a deep breath,

“Oh, you stupid magicians. Couldn’t you immediately stop your hostilities and surrender? Otherwise… I’m going to release this, ok?”

I declared it very lightly.
