July 20, 20X2 (Midnight to Dawn)

Upper Docks

Chang readied his stance- the one that his Uncle Chang Min had drilled into his brain countless of times that his body moved at ease with its execution. His eyes never straying from the contact from his captor and using his peripheral vision to observe the things that might help or hinder him. Noting each object and forming a crude plan in his head, Chang did not dare to hesitate to look at The Fool straight into his eyes.

Changhonestly has no confidence that he could make it, but he should act as if he was. The enemy already knew he was scared, but letting the enemy know more would do more harm and lessen his possibility of survival.

'Throw away your pride, Chang. Focus on Flight,' Chang thought to himself. He didn't have to fight. If he fought, with only a knife as a weapon when the madman had a gun, it was like welcoming death. He wanted to survive. No, he needed to survive. He still has three little buns to see. Chang finally had the family he had desperately wished. He would not want to cut it short.

David's amused stare became small deep chuckles. He took out a small pistol from the holster that was hidden by his vest. Chang felt the adrenaline in his blood stop and all the feelings of bravery that he had worked hard to nurture vanished when the pistol was aimed at him.

Chang, who never once cursed in all of his life, hissed to himself, "Fuck."

David's chuckles grew into full-blown belly laugher. Among the three kids that they have taken, Chang was the most interesting. He was stubborn, eccentric, and insolent. It would be a pity to kill such talent. Maybe he could educate Chang- teach him about the world and what it means to be part of Arcadia.

"Yes, little boy. You are fucked here. One bullet, that's all it takes for you to die."

Chang gritted his teeth, "No, thanks."

David's smile did not vanish as he continued his taunts, "So you would rather die? How about joining me? I can see potential in you."

If he was going to die, then Chang will not vanish without a fight. He relaxed his posture before he said, "My mother would kill me if I join you. I will not live her alone. She is everything to me."

Chang never thought he was used his mother like bait, and she wasn't even here.

David smirked, "Mei Li would not mind. She'll be in my arms once I kill that blasted Zhao."

Tilting his head to the side, acting innocently like Ling Ling used to get her way done, Chang asked, "You'll take care of mother and me?"

Updowned lips became a frown. David stared at Chang with a look that was impossible for the genius kid to recognized. Was the man hopeful of the words that he has uttered?! So his hypothesis about him being in love with his mother was the truth!

Chang saw hope once again, and he mentally begged, 'fall for it!'

With bated breath, Chang waited for the next words and the follow-up action from his words. He did not know how long it was. It was just probably minutes, but with your life on the line, it felt far too prolonged. This suspense was the reason why he didn't like watching horror movies.

Once David nodded, Chang felt victory, but he forced himself not to react. It would be bad if the man would realize what he was trying to do.

"I am a generous person. You can call Mei Li, your mother still." David uttered the words.

Chang needed one more hit, so he uttered the words, "And will you be my father?" It wouldn't be family without one."

David's manic eyes softened. Chang hated it. The thought of a madman replacing his already wonderful father made him sick. His father was going to lecture him lots if he knew about the words that he had uttered. Hopefully, he would be understanding considering the circumstances.

With those words said out loud, David uttered while slowly lowering his gun and storing it back to his holster, "Of course. You can call me Papa. I will teach you everything you want to know."

Once he saw the opportunity, Chang threw his knife at David, shocking the man into a frozen state. In a hurry, Chang ducked into the large crates of food that was randomly placed behind David, then running away and turning left into a slim curve that hid the narrow staircase down another level.

At the time that David had taken his pistol out again, and fired a shot, Chang was already gone.

He underestimated the kid.

That was a deception he never thought a child could masterfully execute.

He ran after the impressive kid, chasing him with a grin like a predator. Determined to make the words the boy uttered real, just to be vindictive.

Meanwhile, with Yang and his friends, they continued to hurry. Due to how fast Chang Min traveled, he arrived way before Yang and Alexandre to the boat. His lithe body never let out any discomfort as he moved from one building to the next, jumping high or far. Hao Ren would warn him if there were some men that he might encounter, wish added to his speed. Hao Ren was an efficient help since he also told him some shortcuts. His stride turned into another run again when he noticed that he could see The Fool running and looking for someone as he entered one room into another.

Seeing the familiar boy that was hiding behind one of the engines, Chang Min acted immediately. He jumped out of his hiding place, putting a hand to muffle Chang's surprise, he put his finger on his lips, signaling for silence. Chang Min could see the visible relief in the little boy's eyes. Without any prompt, Chang signed at Chang Min as short as possible he told the current situation- that they escaped, and he made sure Linjun escape with Ling Ling if they encounter The Fool.

Chang nodded. He took out one of his small guns and gave it to Chang with a look that told him to be very careful. He also gave Chang a tracking device and a more modest communicator that connected to Hao Ren.

Chang Min signaled for Chang to go where he had come from after he hugged the little boy.

Replacing Chang's position as a distraction, Chang Min stood up in full height with his rifle already aimed to kill.

It was time for all these suffering to end.
