After dropping off Taura, who wanted to say hello to Kalin, I came to the encampment square.

Kalin invited me to join them for dinner to welcome Zahle and Taura from Toma village, but I declined.

Zahle and the others were leaving here the next day. I wanted to get this done before then.

I wanted to finish the refining of the Kagero fruit into magic crystal.

I can't help but feel that now is a good time to do it. It's worth the rush.

With that thought in mind, I went to the plaza.

I see several small piles of Kagero nuts.

I pick up one of them and hold it up to the light of the setting sun.

"Well, let's get started.

I unfolded the scroll.

◆◇

A few hours have passed since I started the smelting process.

I'm getting thirsty.

It is now completely dark and night has fallen. The dimly glowing scrolls and the light from the lighting fixtures reflect the light from the small pile of crystallized stones that have been smelted.

"Pretty much done, I guess," I mutter, clearing my throat lightly.

"Master Rust," a voice called out to me.

I glance over to see Ary.

"I brought you some food and drink. Why don't you take a break?" he said, putting food on a tray and holding it with both hands.

It sounded like a suggestion, and his voice was firm and irrefutable.

"Oh, thank you. I was just thirsty. I'm thirsty and I'll take it when I can find it.

I took the tray and stood up to eat.

"Rusto."

"...... yes."

I think it's a bit much to eat standing up, so I scurry around looking for a place to sit down.

We have a tent right over there if you want to sit down. Let me get you a chair," said Ary.

"I'm sorry for everything," I apologized.

"No, it's no big deal," Ary replies and walks away.

I followed him.

Ary's tent comes into view.

Ary enters and comes out immediately. In his hands are two chairs.

They are backless chairs made of wood with upholstered seating. Constructed with a minimum amount of wood, they must be quite valuable in a remote area where wood is scarce.

The chairs are arranged in front of the tent.

We gratefully sit down and begin to eat.

First, I stir up a drink from my mug.

It's ale.

The cold ale soaks into my overworked throat.

A strong aroma of wildness comes up to my nose.

A voice leaks out.

"It's a welcome banquet today. He said it was something he started experimenting with as soon as he arrived here, and he is very confident that it is finally ready", says Ary.

"It is indeed delicious. It has an aroma I've never had with ale. Maybe they are using ingredients from some kind of plant-based monster. But then again, that man not only manages the pantry, he also brews sake."

"It's true," Ary said, "that Leitner was always happy to go hunting for barley monsters when they wandered in from time to time.

I respond, and we begin to eat.

Twin longhorn steaks. I've had this one a few times before, so I'm used to it by now. But it is always delicious. The meat is lean and tender, with almost no sinew.

I guess it goes well with ale, and I finish it in no time at all.

About the time I finish my meal, Ary, who is sitting next to me, opens his mouth.

"Master Rust, there's something I wanted to talk to you about," says Ary.

"If there is anything I can do to help. Please let me know."

Then he told us about his concerns about Ary and Roa.
