Feng Lan and Shandian immediately followed Qai's lead and each took an opponent to attack.

'Roooaaaaar.'

'Baaaaam.'

However, all three of them were unexpectedly pushed back without the enemies making any move—but what was even more surprising was that they felt being hit and incurred inner injuries.

Again, the three of them formed a circle with their backs against each other. Not knowing what to do, Qai made a quick glance at the situation of Feng Lan and his contracted demonic beast.

Qai did not expect that the enemies this time was insanely strong since he would normally have the capability to fight cultivators stronger than him.

Unknown to him, the three black robed Sky stage Sages had actually formed an illusion array. It was brought about by their rare Poison class skill.

Qai and his companions were apparently already under the array's effects. And in truth, the three enemies were no longer in front of them but hidden in the woods nearby watching them drain their Qi energies—and what Qai and the others were attacking were all illusions.

Without a doubt, the enemies were from the Black Shadow Clan who were ordered to eliminate Qai and his supposed slave cultivator for gaining too much from the slave matches.

Apparently, it was due to the clamor of several slave masters to the the Black Shadow Clan to kill Qai—they were most probably those who got defeated in slave matches and those who got threatened by the recent rise of Qai's slave cultivator.

In addition, the Black Shadow Clan did not also want to see such a brat deplete their Spirit Stones by Qai's continuous winning in the side bets.

And so after a couple more attempts to attack and eventual failures, Qai finally felt something was wrong.

The enemies neither seem to activate any skill nor retaliate with basic attacks but the three of them were always pushed back.

Qai thus activated his 'Hawkeye,' and carefully looked at his enemies.

It only took a mere second before Qai noticed that they were surrounded by a poisonous mist. He immediately released the Silvermoon Apes and told Feng Lan and the three demonic beasts to surround him.

The three black robed cultivators meanwhile were stunned to see a rare breed of apes that suddenly appeared.

Their initial thoughts were of course catching them them alive since they could fetch a high price.

However, what happened next even more stunned the three black robed Sages.

The illusion array was suddenly broken.

The reason why Qai had asked his companions to surround him was to defend any attacks while he was studying the mist.

It only took Qai several breaths to figure out that they were inside an array so he focused his Qi in his eyes and tried to look for any flaws in the array. And when he found the weakest spot, he took his Darkwood Composite bow and shot three arrows aimed at that area.

Right after he noticed a crack in the array, he ordered everyone to unleash their skills in that spot.

But not only did Qai figured out the illusion. After they got out of the illusion, he instantly saw the blacked robes location and immediately fired three arrows.

'Swooosh,' 'swooosh,' 'swooosh.'

Being cultivators in the Sky stages of the Sage realm, the three remained composed and simply evaded the arrows.

And since illusions did not seem to work, the enemies finally decided to face Qai and his companions head on.

They instantly released their Qi auras and readied themselves to activate their skills—and in sync, they suddenly jumped from where they stood and activated their skills from mid air.

Qai and his companions on the other hand did the same and charged forth towards the enemies.

'Wabaaaaaaaaaaam.'

'Baaam,' 'baaam,' 'baaam.'

"Eh!?"

Before all of them could even clash, the three black robed Sages suddenly fell to the ground with their dead bodies totally disfigured.

Qai cautiously checked the surroundings and was stunned to see a cultivator emitting a very heavy Emperor Qi aura standing on a branch of a nearby tree.

It was eventually an old but familiar looking cultivator.

"Ha ha ha," the emperor chuckled. "It's been a while boy."

"Old Liu Hei!" Qai exclaimed.

Apparently, the spouses Liu Hei and Liu Hua were already in Sun City few days ago. They had been gathering information about any recent movements within the 'Shadow' territory and learned few things about a young cultivator with a slave cultivator.

And even if the spouses were not able to confirm it, they had a hunch that it was Qai.

Upon 'purchasing' few information, they were able to learn that the rising star 'Feline Fist' together with her slave master was invited by the Thousand Treasures Pavilion. And it was from there that they saw Qai left the place and decided to follow upon seeing that Qai was being chased by the three Black Shadow Clan elites.

"I don't know what kind of trouble you caused the Black Shadow clan, for them to send three elites to kill you," the chief librarian mockingly said as he got down from the tree.

In response, Qai simply grinned after he summoned his demonic beasts back in his spatial pendant. One by one, Shandian and the two Silvermoon Apes disappeared from their sight with only the remnants of the bursts towards the 'Chui Shi' remained in the atmosphere between them.

"Your tamed demonic beasts never cease to amaze me," Liu Hei suddenly said with a smile.

"Thanks for saving us," Qai politely said.

"That's what a 'Protector' is supposed to do."
