Has it got infected? Nathalia was almost panicked. She had all her attention on Spencer and forgot about Matt, who had stood aside.

Spencer heaved a sigh of relief secretly. "Don't worry. The doctor said it's recovering well. It just hurts sometimes..."

"It must be very painful..." she said apologetically, almost in tears, and stroked Spencer's face gently. She felt like she could feel the pain he was feeling and wish she could take it off him.

Seeing the tenderness on her face, Spencer felt loved again. The two gazed at each other with affection, like a perfect circle, allowing no interference.

Matt watched, understood, and quietly walked away. He closed the door behind. Neither Nathalia nor Spencer noticed him leaving.

He hardly walked out of the room when he had to stop and lean against the wall to calm the raging emotions inside him. He felt the sharp pain in his heart, like a claw gripping it hard. I didn't know I would feel so jealous and sad to see them so close.

"Matt? You ok? Why are you standing here? Don't you want to go?" A concerned voice asked. It was Sophie. She took a look at the bodyguard standing by the door. "Do they not allow you to go in?"

Matt shook his head as if to shake away the painful thoughts. He put on his usual gentle and polite look. "I've been to see her. I should get back to work now. See you."

Sophie looked at Matt affectionately and asked worriedly, "Matt, you look tired. Have you been working a lot? Please take care of yourself..."

The frown between his brows hurt her heart. He's not happy. Sophie thought.

Matt paused, without turning around, he asked plainly, "Why do you care about me so much?"

"Because, because I love you, Matt. Simple as that. I just love with no expectation of you loving me back." Looking at the familiar sight of his back, Sophie plucked her courage, her heart racing, and confessed.

She had finally expressed her love. She had not planned to tell him, but seeing him feeling so low and upset, she couldn't help it.

Matt was a bit surprised, but he replied emotionlessly, "Don't love me. I'm not what you think I am."

Somehow Sophie had expected a similar answer, but she still felt extremely disappointed. "What are you then? To me, you are the gentlest, kindest, most selfless person. I know that you love Nathalia and her, she loves Spencer, but you..." Nathalia is a good girl, and she deserves both of their love, but she loves Spencer, and she's so loyal in love that she can be stubborn. Surely, she will not fall for anyone else. Matt won't have a chance.

Matt felt like someone had seen his wound, and like a cat, he wanted to go and hide. "Stop. You don't understand love at all." He snapped.

"Even though it's not you that makes them happy?" Matt frowned and retorted.

Matt found it difficult to understand girls. He couldn't see why Nathalia chose Spencer. She didn't like my brother in the beginning. I remember that she even kind of despised him.

Sophie had a mixed feeling of bittersweetness. She gazed at his back and nodded, not realizing that he could see her. "Yes. Whoever makes them happy, as long as they are happy, I will be happy for them. Same with you." That's why I've never tried to interfere in your life. I just love you with no expectation of you loving me back.

Matt was surprised to hear what Sophie said, but he simply said, "You are even sillier than me." and left. Just as he walked into the lift, Mrs. Davidson came out from another lift with a few bodyguards and caught sight of Matt. She frowned, displeased.

Then she saw Sophie, and it took her a few seconds to remember that she was Nathalia's friend. "Sophie, do you know that guy? What was he doing here?"

Sophie was still thinking about what just happened. She gazed at Mrs. Davidson for a little while before she could find her tongue. "That's Matt, an officer, a handsome and good man, the man I love."

Mrs. Davidson pouted and said discouragingly, "He's got a girlfriend. Forget about him."

"What?! Impossible!" Sophie exclaimed. How come? He loves Nathalia, doesn't he?

Mrs. Davidson glanced at Sophie and said casually, "He's going to get engaged soon. Don't fall for someone who's not available. It's not good for you."

Sophie shook her head. She would not believe it. "It's impossible. Why is he getting engaged? Mrs. Davidson, where did you hear the news from? It must be mere rumors. I have to ask him." Who will he be engaged to? It can't be Nathalia.

She quickly ran to get the lift, but when she got downstairs, Matt was nowhere in sight. She returned, feeling disappointed and puzzled.

Spencer was talking with Nathalia affectionately, while Mrs. Davidson sat next to them, watching with a content smile on her face. It was the sight of a perfect loving family.

She came into the room in a rush and asked impatiently, "Nathalia, do you know that Matt is getting engaged?"

"What? No. I had no idea at all." Nathalia was taken aback.

"I told her. I read it in the newspaper." Mrs. Davidson waved her hands and said kind of proudly.

"Who is he getting engaged to?" Sophie asked instantly. She felt like she had to find out and be sure of it, or she would not be able to relax.

Mrs. Davidson put on a smile, which seemed disdainful, and answered: "Nathalia has met her too, Amy Berry, the girl who tore my favorite dress."

It's her. Nathalia thought and sighed. Does he love her? If this is his choice, then I hope he will be happy.

Tears ran down Sophie's face. There was a stabbing pain in her heart. "No. I don't believe it. Why will he marry someone else when he is in love with Nathalia..." She exclaimed.

"Enough." Spencer snapped.

It was then when Sophie realized she had said the wrong thing. Instantly, she covered her mouth with her hands, regretting. She didn't mean to.

The smile froze on Mrs. Davidson's face. "Nathalia, is it true?" She questioned Nathalia with a demanding tone.

Nathalia was speechless. "Err. I...I guess. Perhaps." She stuttered. What can I say? This is so awkward.

Worried that his mother would get angry, Matt cut in, "Yes, he likes Nathalia a lot, and he's told Nathalia too, but Nathalia has made it very clear that she only loves me, that she has always loved me only."

Both Spencer and Nathalia looked at Mrs. Davidson and waited nervously for her reply.
