Mrs. Davidson got up immediately and rushed to the doctors. "How's my son?"

Nathalia watched, waited, holding her breath, her hands sweating from anxiety.

One of the doctors replied formally, "Mr. Spencer Davidson is suffering from concussion. There's blood extravasation in his brain, so he needs to stay hospitalized for some time just so that..."

Before he could finish, Mrs. Davidson cut him short. "Is he in danger?" She asked anxiously.

Nathalia's face went pale, her heart beating fast.

A smile appeared on the doctor's face. "He's a lucky man. No, he's not in danger. The extravasation will go in a few days. Don't worry, Mrs. Davidson, he will recover soon."

Everyone heaved a sigh of relief. Mrs. Davidson patted her chest and murmured, "Thank god. Thank god."

Tears filled Nathalia's eyes instantly. Her legs almost failed her, and she had to sit back down on the bench for a little while. He's safe. He's safe. Everything is fine. She told herself and wept with joy.

When she regained strength, she went into the room quietly to see Spencer. He was lying in bed, his eyes closed, his head bandaged. A bit of blood tainted the bandage.

She stroked his face tenderly, her hand shaking a bit. You are safe, honey.

As she leaned down and pecked a gentle kiss on his head, tears dropped onto Spencer's forehead. Mrs. Davidson had just walked in to catch sight of the scene, a worrying frown between her brows.

When she finally noticed the time, it was past midnight. It took her awhile to persuade Mrs. Davidson to go home and rest. She stayed by his side, holding his hand, watching him all night. Many thoughts knocked at the door of her head.

The sky slowly lit up as dawn broke, and soon bright sunlight shone through the window into the room, bringing warmth and hope.

It was a new day.

Spencer opened his eyes. A smile lit up his face at the sight of Nathalia. "Nathalia." He called her name, though his voice weak, yet the excitement was apparent.

Like the sunlight, his voice touched her heart and swept away from her worries. "Spencer! You are awake! I'm so happy." She exclaimed, with tears in her eyes.

"Yes. I'm back, babe. And I'm staying with you forever." Spencer said with a bright smile.

Since Spencer woke up, Nathalia had been staying with him, taking care of everything, bringing food, drinks, anything needed. Spencer requested her to stay in his sight, worried about losing her again.

A few days later, tired of staying in the hospital, Spencer persuaded the doctor to let him leave.

Back home, Nathalia enjoyed running little errands for Spencer, thinking just to be with him is a blessing.

As Nathalia was preparing lunch, she was thinking about how lovely it was to cook for someone she loved. No wonder people fall in love with cooking when they are in love. I never used to like cooking, but I love it now.

Mrs. Davidson was leaning at the door, watching, while Nathalia was humming, chopping veggies and thinking about sweet thoughts.

"What actually happened that night?" Mrs. Davidson asked. She sounded serious.

She had asked the bodyguards, but no one would answer her. Spencer was even worse, avoiding or changing the subject every time she mentioned it. She believed that something was going on.

Nathalia stopped singing and heaved a sigh. "Didn't you ask Spencer? Didn't he tell you?" She replied.

"Huh. Why would I ask you If he had already told me?" She wasn't pleased with Nathalia's response at all.

Spencer had made Nathalia promise not to tell Mrs. Davidson about that night. "She will be scared and worried to hell if she knows the truth." Spencer had said, though Nathalia understood that it was more likely for the reason that Mrs. Davidson would blame Nathalia for it.

Nathalia was grateful for Spencer's thoughtfulness and, at the same time, understood that Mrs. Davidson had the right to know.

"I guess Spencer has his reason not to tell you. Why don't you just forget about it? Everything is fine now, which is the most important, isn't it?" Nathalia hesitated before she replied.

"Why can't I know? He's my son. I care about him." Mrs. Davidson frowned. She had a feeling that it had something to do with Nathalia, the same as last time. Spencer got hurt because of Nathalia. Last time it was the shoulder, and this time, the head. She was really worried that it would happen again.

"You have every right to know, but I don't want to make Spencer upset either." Nathalia pouted her lips, wondering what she could do. It was an awkward situation. "You know what he's like. And, and he's still recovering. We don't want him to get upset, do we?"

Mrs. Davidson realized that it was unlikely to get Nathalia to tell her the truth. She walked away without saying another word. Since then, she had been treating Nathalia rather indifferently.

Spencer noticed and had a talk with his mother, but it didn't help much. Mrs. Davidson would even say something harsh to Nathalia sometimes.

There was nothing else Spencer could do. He comforted Nathalia, saying, "Please pay no attention to her. She will forget about it very soon. You know what she's like." Saying that mum has been behaving strangely lately, sometimes like a wise old lady, sometimes like a little kid. Could it be a midlife crisis?

"I'm not upset. She's just worried about you. I know why she's cold. And you are right. I won't pay attention to it." Nathalia replied casually with a smile. After all that she had been through, this was just something trivial. She had learned to be strong enough to not be defeated by such triviality.

Spencer was relieved to hear what Nathalia said. Just having her around made him feel much better. A sudden passion filled his heart, and he whispered into Nathalia's ear, "I want to sleep on your bed tonight..." He couldn't understand why Nathalia insisted on having her own room. He missed her every night.

It brought a blush to Nathalia's face. "You are still recovering. Naughty one." His mum sometimes comes in without knocking. What if we get caught?! Also, she doesn't like me much these days. I don't want to irritate her even more.
