There was a knock at the door. Spencer pushed the door open and walked in. His eyes sparkled at the sight of Nathalia. He was pleased.

A navy blue dress wrapped around her beautiful, fit body. She looked stunningly alluring and elegant. Navy blue suited her wonderfully.

He gazed at her for a few seconds. "Do you like it?" He asked, proud of himself, yet his voice gentle and loving.

Nathalia's heart was racing. She tried hard and managed to hide her stirred emotions. "You have a good taste, just like what they say." She teased. As soon as she said it, she realized how flirtatious she sounded.

He stretched his arm out, grabbed her on her waist, and pulled her into his arms. He pecked her on her cheek.

"Are you implying that you are jealous of the women I had? From now on, you are the only one. The only one to me."

She listened and saw her eyes in his. She was drowning, drowning in the ocean of his sweetness. Even if it was just a dream, she wanted to stay there and never awake simply.

She couldn't take her eyes off him. Even her racing heartbeat could not stop her. How can someone be so good looking? His eyes were so warm and gentle. And the light, the light in them. I see the light in his eyes.

She had forgotten the pain inside her, the hate around her, the battle she had to fight.

Though she knew it was a risk. It could be very dangerous to be with him, but she wanted to be with him, to be closer to him.

Is this love?

So sudden.

They stood there, eyes fixed on each other like they were suddenly connected with a bond, strong and intense. Time became irrelevant.

Then Nathalia's phone rang.

"What if there was no lie

Nothing wrong, nothing right

What if there was no time

And no reason, or rhyme

What if you should decide

That you don't want me there by your side

That you don't want me there in your life

What if I got it wrong

And no poem or song

Could put right what I got wrong

Or make you feel I belong

What if you should decide

That you don't want me there by your side

That you don't want me there in your life

Oooooooh that's right

Let's take a breath to try to put it aside

Oooooooh that's right

How can you know it if you don't even try

Oooooooh that's right

Every step that you take

Could be your biggest mistake

It could bend, or it could break

That's the risk that you take

***

It went on for a while till she realized it was her phone ringing and how sad it sounded.

Yet deep down inside her, a voice was questioning.

What am I doing? How could I have fallen in love with him? This is suicidal. Falling in love with a man like him means choosing a difficult path. What should I do?

Then she heard the answer inside her.

Love him, but do not let him know. Keep it as a secret, my own secret. Yep, that's it. Love him, but don't get close to him. What's love? It's a weapon used against oneself.

There's no forever. There's no such love to the end of the world. It's all just fantasy. It's just a sweet lie.

Love him, but love him quietly. Keep it inside. Don't let it grow. Don't start it. As long as I don't start it, then there's no end, and it means there will be no pain.

Spencer watched her face as if he was following the flow of her thoughts. He put his hand on her face, and a bright smile lit up his face. "I know what you, women, strange creatures are like, playing hard to get. You say you don't want it even though you are yearning for it."

Nathalia knew what he said was true. She blushed again, frustrated and annoyed, yet somehow pleased as well. She dared not look at him again. She pushed him away and hurried to get her phone.

He watched her and sensed that something was wrong. He frowned.

"Nathalia, where are you? You didn't come home last night, and you didn't answer the phone! What the hell are you doing? People are going to talk if they find out. And how will people think of us? Have you thought about that?" An angry voice sounded from the other side of the phone.

It struck Nathalia like a knife. It sounded so cold.

"Dad? What's the matter?" She asked.

He was involved in the incident last night. Her own father treated her like so. Wasn't he guilty at all? And instead, he was questioning her?!

How did they think people think of them anyway?

Frank was still yelling at the phone when Anne snatched it from him impatiently. "Where's Evette? Why is her phone off? Where are you two? What happened? Put her on the phone."

Nathalia could hear the worried tone in Anne's voice.

Of course, she was worried. Things didn't go as planned, and she couldn't reach Evette. She had no idea what had happened.

Did it work out well?

Nathalia sneered. She thought for a few seconds, and intentionally, she screamed, sounding panicking.

"Evette? Is Evette not with me? Did something happen to her?"

Anne had been awake all night. She had the feeling that something had gone wrong, and she had been sick worrying.

She panicked.

"Who are you with then?" She asked.

So it didn't work out last night? Even if it's so, Evette should have called to tell me. It's not a big deal if it didn't work out and we can re-plan something, but not telling me anything is worrying. Where is she?

Before Nathalia could answer, Spencer took the phone away from behind her. "Mrs. Carter, thanks for asking about my Nathalia. I really appreciate it." He said cheerfully—a bright smile on his face.

His voice struck Anne like lightning. Shocked, she cried, "Spencer? You... you are with Nathalia? How come it's you..."

Spencer's smile disappeared, and his eyes grew cold, his face stern, but he replied in a gentle voice, "Yes, I am. Who else do you think it is then? Are you implying something I don't know? I don't like guessing, Mrs. Carter. Why don't you just be straightforward?"

Frank and Anne stared at each other, both pale-faced, terror in their eyes.

How did it come to this? Does Spencer know? My God, what are we going to do now?! No, wait, stay calm. He can't possibly know. It was very well planned. No one could find out.

We need to find our daughter first.

"What...you..." Anne was speechless and frightened. Instead of replying to Spencer's question, she shouted, "Nathalia! Where's your sister? Where's Evette?!"

Nathalia lifted her eyebrow and looked at Spencer to see that he smiled as if he understood everything. She smiled back at him and answered Anne, "I don't know. Didn't she go home last night? Perhaps she's got herself a boyfriend as well and stayed at his? She's not a kid anymore anyway. She knows what she's doing."

After Nathalia hung up the phone, she turned around and looked at Spencer, "Now, tell me what you did last night."
