"We will now be walking along the wall! Towards the end, we will have the chance to walk along the battlefield! Do not split up from your group no matter what!" Our school's headmaster says.

It was the next day and we were currently back on the field where we were told to gather. Auntie was standing intimidatingly next to the headmaster as he explained the plan.

"Any questions… Alright everyone line up in front of your designated teacher! You should've seen them on the permission slip so you have no excuse!"

Everybody looks towards Aria in the group except for me. I was just going to follow them, maybe pay attention if something was interesting.

Placing my headphones on my head, I then played some music as Aria dealt with everything.

I followed my group to where we stepped in front of the PE teacher. He still looked the same, but he was wearing some chainmail armor right now and had a greatsword slung on his back.

Seems like this trip won't be as smooth as I thought. If the teachers are wearing armor then that means there is still a chance that monsters will attack. I don't think we'll be able to see any of the civilization since there are… 5 walls…? I think? And we are currently about to get on the first wall.

That means suppression has been hard. There are 3 things possible here…

They are letting some monsters through for some experiment or test.

They aren't able to kill every monster that tries to pass the walls, meaning the monsters either have secret tunnels or suppressing every single one is just impossible.

There are civilizations even outside the frontlines so let's say there might be a goblin encampment near the edge of the fourth wall, which the guards haven't spotted yet.

Seems like even having the primordial braves on the frontlines doesn't 100% get rid of all monsters that try to push through.

"Alright, no playing around once we get on the wall and cross the wall. Extreme punishment will be dished out if you fail to follow this one rule," The PE teacher says.

Everybody including me nods their head but this time I didn't do it because of the pressure he exuded, but because I didn't want him to keep an eye on me. He was more like my equal now, but if I acted like that, he'll be suspicious of me and possibly follow me around. At that point, I would have to kill him which is not optimal for this field trip and how he's our designated guide.

We soon follow him up a flight of spiral stone stairs which we then soon reach the top. We once again saw the dry but also moist with blood battlefield. It was almost as if you could still hear the blood-curdling cries of the dying soldiers and the cackles of goblins as they burst onto the battlefield slaughtering everything in their path.

Well, it might've not been goblins. Could've been something weaker or stronger but whatever appeared, was able to do this to our world.

The teacher started to explain the history of this battlefield and its significance.

"This wall we are standing on top of is called the wall of Ice. Each wall is named after one of the Primordial Braves, with no significant order. So right now we are currently on the sixth wall that helps protect the US from the plagued Canada that got wiped out.

Now if you look to your right, you should see the first battlefield that ever took place. Over the years we've had to push back the monsters and then create new walls to keep holding them back.

A special force has been created in the last 200 years and they're helping push back the wave of monsters as well. Nobody knows why there are so many monsters here, but there have been speculations of some portals which weren't closed in time so they keep flooding out monsters," The PE teacher explains.

Looks like they don't know about Dungeon Paradise. They also still call it the "Plagued Canada" when it's just the battlefield where monsters and earth fight against.

The PE teacher went on and on until we finally arrived at another set of spiral stairs. We walked down it, but instead of arriving back at the town, we were on the last patch of green grass before the barren and cracked battlefield.

"If you do not want to step onto this death-filled battlefield, please wait here," The PE teacher says as everybody follows him except for me and Aria.

As we step onto the battlefield, a lingering smell of rotting flesh fills the air and as we walk farther in, the smell gets more putrid. Thankfully I've smelled worse than this so I had no trouble keeping my composure while Aria was struggling to hold in a gag.

We soon stopped at a giant blue line that stretched across the battlefield and I immediately got the chills. Aria, on the other hand, her face went pale and she stumbled slightly before throwing up.

So this is the feeling of death without dying. It doesn't hurt but it's cold and lonely.

"If we step past this point, the feeling of death will instantly make you pass out, so never step past this blue line," The PE teacher says.

Suddenly, it felt like something wrapped a cold blade around my neck. It was curved and I could immediately tell what weapon it was… a scythe. It was as if the grim reaper was right behind me and held its blade against my throat.

I didn't even notice that I was holding my breath until I felt lightheaded. I slightly gasped for air and extinguished my emotions instantly. The hardest one to suppress was fear since it was practically overflowing but eventually, I crushed it with sheer mental willpower.

I was now able to think clearly while Aria was starting to back up, step by step. Instead of letting her run away, I wanted to torment her a bit but also teach her something, so I walked behind her and placed my hand on her shoulder.

"Don't run. Since you've always been power leveled and always had protection, you've never felt the press of death... But now you feel it. This is what we feel, the victims of you young masters and mistresses when we are being beaten half to death.

You might as well face it now. Do you like or resent the feeling of death?"

"L-let go," Aria stutters.

"Answer me…" I say coldly.

"R-r-resent

"Wrong. Both are wrong. Never like the feeling of death otherwise, you'll come to accept death in a situation where you're dying, but you need to live. Don't resent the feeling, otherwise, you'll always feel fear in the face of death, slowing your movements and thought process.

Don't feel emotions, like a centipede. They have no fear, but nor do they feel happy, sad, angry, or disgusted. Be like the centipede and feel nothing," I whisper into her ear.

I read this in an article before. Invertebrates supposedly don't feel anything which is why they don't fear things bigger than them. When you poke a centipede, it will go after you, despite you throwing rocks and trying to stomp on it. It pushes forward until it dies, loses sight of you, or you die.

Aria stops shivering and I could see her eyes grow colder by the second. Her rate of breathing slows as she doesn't even look at me, but does a motion where she looks like she's moving a blade from her neck.

She's a good pawn who learns quickly. Of course, I won't teach her how to use bloodlust, just in case she turns against me in the future.

I took a peek at the teacher and saw he was slightly struggling to breathe under this pressure but was able to keep his calm composure.

"It is said that the souls of the deceased soldiers still haunt this area, which is why you get the feeling of dying once walking onto this deserted battlefield," says the PE teacher.

Souls? Does that mean I can use [Ancient Sacrifice]...? Well, no point installing,

[Ancient Sacrifice]

"…"

[Souls that weren't killed by you have been found]

[Gathering External Souls…]

[For each external soul, you only get 1/4 of a soul…]

[Would you like to sacrifice external souls?]

Yes…
