(A/N - I added some things in the last chapter that you might want to check out.)

…

"*gasp*... HUFF HUFF HUFF…"

A bucket of cold water was splashed onto my face, waking me up almost instantly.

My head whirled in pain, and the flickering yellow light above me didn't help at all.

"Yo…"

I snapped my head in front of me, only to notice a creepy silhouette. One side of it seemed to be covered in a dim glow, and the other side of it was covered in a shadowy mist.

"Where am I?" I ask, my expression unwavering.

I tried to think back as to what happened before I woke up here.

I was hugging Auntie and then… I went unconscious.

"Somewhere in New York," The silhouette responds.

"And what am I doing here?"

"Do you not know?"

"Know what?"

"That you're a monster?"

My eyes widened a bit, and returning to my usual calm expression would've been the smart move… but it seems I've already been exposed.

"Yeah, I know," I respond calmly.

"Then what are you doing here?"

"What do you mean? I was born and raised here,"

"What? Born and raised? What do you think?"

The man began to converse with himself as if he had split personalities… which is the conclusion I ended up finishing with.

"It's impossible that she's been born and raised here… Wait, unless she was turned into a monster… Were you turned into a monster?"

"Yes,"

This should ease my future by just the tiniest of bits.

I was still confused and a bit dazed by the sudden change in scenery. This, on top of the exhaustion of the past week, made us tired and grumpy.

Wait… Us? Shit…

"Uh, may I ask where the others are?"

"They're currently helping out the injured,"

"I see… Also, may I speak to Auntie?"

"Auntie? Do you mean Tiana? Why do you keep calling her Auntie… Yeah, why do you keep calling her Auntie?" The man switches personalities again with no signal.

"We're not blood-related… but she feels like an aunt… No, more like a mother more than ever now,"

"Strange… Yeah, strange… What made you cling to her? She never told us anything about this,"

"That's cause our bond developed during the time she was here. And then she was captured,"

"Ah right… Captured,"

If question marks could pop above my head, they would've just then. It seemed as if he was joking and looking back on a funny moment.

"You're the Brave of Light, right?" I ask firmly.

It was evident from his abilities and the light and darkness coating him… Even without his appearance, I could tell who he was.

"Yeah… Anyway, how did you become a monster… What? Why not ask about how their bond developed… I don't give a shit… *sigh*, this is why you can't pick up girls… Shut the hell up and just watch,"

It felt a bit awkward now that the mysterious shroud that previously coated him was gone.

I have to lie… I can't tell him about the system… Nobody can learn about the system.

I have become aware it's something that is not supposed to be here. It's an enigma of enigmas due to its feature that allows a powerless person to rise into one of the strongest things in existence…

"I don't know… One day I just woke up, and I was a monster… I'm ȧssuming you've already checked my back, right?"

I'm not lying...

"Of course. We saw your feathers, and they aren't from an already existing monster, so we'll have to do some tests on you,"

I gulped down a large drop of saliva, and my expression wavered a bit.

Thoughts of escaping crossed my mind, but it seemed the brave noticed my frantic look, so he reassured me.

"Oh, it's not like what those other guys who were chasing after you wanted to do. It's just a bit of feather samples and blood work. We're not going to cut you open and shit,"

"A-ah… I see… Well, are we done here?"

"Yeah, we've already confirmed you aren't that dangerous… What are you talking about… What are you talking about… Doesn't she have a seed of death planted inside of her… Oh yeah, that was something that came up, but it's not like she's the only one. It could be from the original death miasma that coated the world a while ago… Oh yeah, maybe you are right but shouldn't we keep her under observation?"

The brave kept going back and forth with himself upon coming to a simple conclusion that took quite a while to arrive at.

"Well, first we gotta tell your parents… Last name, please," The brave says, flicking his finger towards the flickering light.

And when I looked back towards the brave, I saw him… The Brave of Light… But he was much different from what we saw in school.

The left half of his short ruffled hair was bright gold, and the other half was a dark gray with hints of purple mixed into it.

Matching his hair was a bright gold pupil on the left eye and a dark gray pupil with hints of purple on the right eye.

He wasn't as muscular as what was portrayed in the picture, and he, in fact, looked a bit feminine… kinda. Not as much as the Write head, but he seemed very young, to say the least.

Oh yeah… the Write head… He's dead. I feel somewhat empty again…

"Hey, how come I can feel sadness again?" I ask the brave.

"Hey…"

"What…"

"You didn't answer my question dɨċkhead,"

He's rather rude… Not what I expected from the strongest man in the world. Actually, maybe the fame and money got to him.

"O-oh yeah. It's Amana,"

"Amana?!" The brave shouts, standing up while throwing his notebook away.

A shadow that came from his feet immediately devoured it as if it was a backpack.

"Y-yeah,"

"What is your mother's first name?"

"Why do you want to know? She's already dead anyway,"

"S-she's dead?"

"Uhhhhh… Yeah,"

"Ah, shit… We haven't even repaid her yet,"

The braves attitude shifted almost instantly after hearing my last name, and I ȧssumed it was because they were good friends back in the day.

He didn't look like someone who lost a lover, unlike Auntie, who still carried a few heartbroken feelings around.

"What was your mother's name?"

"Why should I say?"

An explosion of light and darkness erupted from his body, distorting his figure into that of a monster made from smoke.

"TELL ME!"

"Alright, damn… It's Marina… Marina Amana,"

The brave calmed down upon hearing this and sank back into his chair, the misty appearance of a monster disappearing.

A faint glow could be seen under both of his pupils with their respected color.

"*sigh*... We didn't get to repay her… Then why don't we use this girl to repay the debt… Hell no. We don't even know if they're related. She could just be making this up… Then let's do a blood test… No… You just don't like this girl cause she's a monster, right… Of course,"

The man bickered with himself once again as I sat on the wooden chair tied by a scaly material.

Snakes…
