“Damn it!”

I used a little power and swung my sword down.

While making a loud Gashi sound I drove my sword into one of our garden’s trees.

I usually don’t use great swords. They were too heavy and I couldn’t swing them for a long time, but right now the pain felt comfortable.

I thought it would be a good method to empty my mind and deplete my stamina completely.

“……Young lady”

I heard Claire’s amazed, exhausted voice from a distance.

“Please cease to destroy the garden’s trees.”

She stood near the outer wall of the mansion staring at me.

“A tree isn’t a good practice partner.”

I complained in a small voice. At the judiciary station, I had the practice dome.

Honestly, I was sulking. I violently pulled out the great sword out of the tree trunk and stuck it into the ground.

Sweat dripped from my forehead.

My body felt hot.

“I want to send that shitty iron mask bastard flying. No, I’ll absolutely do it someday!”

As I sincerely said so Claire sighed while putting a hand on her head. Did she get a headache?

“Young lady becomes more and more like a man……or rather ruder. However, please remember”

She put her face in front of me and stared at me.

“The body of the opponent you want to hit is the young lady’s.”

“Shit”

“Language”

“Sorry”

I lost to Claire’s sharp eyes and apologised for now.

She approached me and gave me the white cloth she held in her hands. She was so thoughtful to think about getting something for me to wipe my body which was drenched in sweat.

“Thanks”

When I received it and wiped the sweat from my forehead to my neck, I heard a voice calling out from the back.

“Ace-sama”

I looked back.

Heck, since when was the person in charge of my education Cart standing there? Why didn’t I feel his presence?

“Ah, what can I help you with?”

I straightened myself and once and put on a smile.

My name is Ace Riot as for now. It seems like the Riot family is very distantly related to us. The setting was that I was a boy welcomed by the Augustine household.

“I looked for you for some time now.”

Cart continued to speak calmly but still transmitting a certain pressure.

“You don’t know who might be listening inside of the mansion. You should be more careful about your conduct.”

“I’m very sorry”

I tried to look as graceful as I learned from him bowing my head while minding my movement.

I think that I became a lot better recently. How to walk, how to stand, how to move and he thoroughly reformed my way to talk. But I came to be praised by him in moderation.

“However, I don’t intend to pry”

He slightly raised an eyebrow.

“When did you become the fiancé of the young lady of the Augustine family if I may ask?”

“Yes”

――It was that kind of setting.

I put a smile on my face.

“Is the practice of the sword necessary?”

“It is.”

I replied instantly.

“Because the man has to protect the woman if there is a case of emergency.”

“Ah, I see.”

He looked puzzled before he gave a small nod.

“However, men who carry around a sword every day are limited. When you are at the Augustine family’s place you don’t have to carry around a sword all the time, too”

“……That is certainly right”

I erased my smile.

“Then I might have a suggestion for you”

He said calmly.

“How about someone teaching you martial arts? I believe it would leave a better impression on the young lady than wildly swinging a sword, don’t you think?”

“Martial arts……”

I thought about that suggestion. It surely might be more useful than a sword.

I can’t injure Gray’s body……in other words my body, with a sword. It would certainly be safer to subdue him with martial arts or taijutsu.

“I would like to learn it by all means”

I immediately decide and told him so.

The colour of relief floated on his face and he smiled.

“That sounds good. When you swing around your sword you seem a little……”

“Crude, violent, bad mannered.”

Claire butted in.

“No class, wild, boorish, rough”

“Well that’s enough”

When I scowled at Claire, Cart nodded to her words.

“I was disappointed, too. Even though I taught you about manners when you touch a sword it seems to get reversed.”

I might have used a crude way of speaking.

I groaned a little.

“But don’t worry. Because the person that teaches martial arts is someone I absolutely trust.”

His smile was bright.

Though I had a bad feeling for a moment I couldn’t assume a defiant attitude now. I accepted his suggestion.

“Sounds kind of like fun”

Elizabeth told me that after a few days and I couldn’t answer her.

I put my face on the table and let a sigh spill out.

To be able to study magic in the Augustine house Elizabeth had to commute here to teach me. It seemed to act as a form of monitoring me as well.

The Augustine household had a detached room that was adjacent to the building with a small botanical garden. I used that detached room for my studies.

Today Elizabeth came to study magic with me……but I couldn’t concentrate because I was so exhausted already as soon as we started.

“There’s nothing fun about it……”

I started complaining while my face was still on the table.

“I didn’t think elegance was so important for martial arts…….. Even the gesture of parrying your opponents attack one has to act like a noble person – – is what I was told”

Elizabeth sipped the tea Claire brought and smiled when she put some of the cake in her mouth.

“The chocolate cake is the best. This, there are nuts in there.”

Listen to me.

I beg you please listen to my complaints.

Right now there were only me and Elizabeth left. Even Claire doesn’t approach this place during magic practice.

Therefore I can say whatever I want as much as I desire.

Elizabeth covered this detached room in her magic so she would immediately know if someone were to approach, too.

“I thought the martial arts teacher would be someone muscular like Alex but he looked pretty normal. But his movements are certainly amazing. I can’t match him at all. But what’s with elegance? I don’t need that to beat up Gray.”

“Don’t you have your priorities wrong?”

Elizabeth finally reacted to my words. Because “We should arrest him first before you hit him. Everything else is fine.”

“It’s no good”

I cried.

The things moving me right now are anger and hatred for Gray.

Since that damn asshole laughed at me in the mirror I desperately studied magic and practised my swordsmanship. What are those dark feelings?

And only impatience spreads through me.

I’m still no match for that guy. I knew that instinctively.

I felt something hot in the corner of my eyes.

That’s bad, it seems like I’m really going to cry.

“Well, I’m sorry that the Judiciary Station can’t find any clues to Gray’s whereabouts.”

Elizabeth said so while mumbling.

“But it may be safe to say that he isn’t close by”

“Do you really think so?”

I inched closer to Elizabeth.

“How do you know that he isn’t close? Couldn’t it be that he watches me and the Judiciary Station really close by?”

“Yeeah~”

Elizabeth puts some sweets on her plate and spoke while turned away from me.

“At least we don’t think he would watch with Gray’s current body. We don’t have a clue regarding that. I don’t think Gray would approach.”

“Is that so?”

I had a miserable expression.

Elizabeth smiled wryly.

“Big sis Matilda did say though that I should contact you when you enrol in the academy.”

“Academy?”

“There’s a magic department in the academy, too, one can use magic as much as one wants and my age isn’t any different from a high school student. It’s hard to leave even if one manages to invade it, you see?”

“Aah……”

Certainly.

But getting closer to me, huh?

I didn’t tell anyone about me talking to Gray not even the Judicial Station or Elizabeth, but that would mean that this secret isn’t as secure anymore.

While I hardened, Elizabeth finished eating her cake and stood up from the chair.

“There is still a little time before my school entrance. Let’s do our best, shall we?”

I stood up in silence.

There’s no need to worry.

I’m the only one who can do it.
