“I was a little worried when I called out to you. Because you look like a son form a good family.”

Simon walked through the corridor while smiling wryly. I observed him while walking next to him.

How should I describe his clothes?….. Simple. I thought he perhaps chose them for the interview. However, I cannot deny that they look inferior to my clothes when I looked at his clothing.

I furrowed my eyebrows slightly.

Though it was a bad way to put it but I thought that only rich people could enter this Academy.

“You look surprised”

Simon noticed my eyes and scratched his head.

“They have a student loan system here, you see?”

“Aah”

When he said that I remembered. The thing about really talented people get exempted from the school fees. Though on the other hand, I heard that they have to pay it back to the school after they graduated somehow.

“A scholarship student. You’re pretty excellent!”

At first I was troubled about how to talk to him but casual talk seemed okay for Simon.

I was careful to speak like a boy and smiled. He watched me as slightly troubled.

“Yeah, well, only in one part”

“One part?”

When I look puzzled, he nodded while sighing.

“Though I entered the magic department I’m only confident in my magic.”

“Isn’t that good? You should be proud that you were able to become a scholarship student.”

“That won’t do”

He stared at me again a little amazed.

“I heard that even if one’s results are good they would still prioritise one’s family’s social standing.”

“……Is it so?”

When I saw that I furrowed my brows and Simon was even more surprised.

“I wonder if one doesn’t show as much interest in entering this school when one is a rich person. Normally wouldn’t one have to do various preparations?”

“In its own way.”

I said this quietly while furrowing my eyebrows. Simon stared at me for a while, but then averted his eyes from me.

After we climbed down the stairs we had to walk a little more.

“As I thought, they live in a completely different world, huh?”

He scratched his head. His profile seemed troubled for a while now and I got impatient inwardly. However, he opened his mouth after a while as I remained silent because I didn’t know what to say.

“In this school there is a teacher who is famous for their healing magic, that’s why I aimed for this Academy.”

“Healing magic……”

“Magicians who are skilled in healing magic will be well off financially.”

He grinned but it felt like he forcefully tried to look evil.

When I merely nodded, Simon erased the smile.

“I was brought up in a not so rich family. I wanted to choose the most realistic occupation. One might say for the sake of a stable income? Well, you wouldn’t understand, sorry.”

――In other words because I’m a “rich person”.

Therefore I shouldn’t be able to comprehend people who study to gain money like Simon, is that what he meant?

I was a little lost in thought.

“No, I understand.”

They were simple and quickly said words.

And he didn’t seem to really believe me.

“I enter the magic department, too”

After being a little anxious I said this.

Simon widened his eyes in surprise. The interviewer also didn’t seem to understand why I wanted to enter the magic department.

Is it that strange?

Are “Rich people” who want to become magicians treated like weirdos?

Then how should one answer?

Was the way I answered the interviewer the best?

No, I am far from being an intelligent person. Those lines only looked good and will just cause trouble for me.

“Do you want become a magician?”

Simon looked puzzled. I shook my head while smiling wryly.

“It’s not like that. It’s because that department seemed to be difficult.”

“Eh?”

I got ready to tell a lie. My smile looked natural, but I was troubled on the inside.

“I have a fiancée”

“A fiancée!? As is expected, rich people are different……”

I interrupt his words and started to talk.

“The partner’s household is really amazing. I may not be able to remain being her fiancé if I get bad results in this Academy. In other words now is my testing period.”

“Is it such an amazing family……?”

“Well yeah. If I cause problems I will be dismissed. Because it would be bad if that happened I’m rather desperate.”

“Haaー”

He was genuinely surprised and let out a breath.

“Honestly my only merit is my appearance.”

I used the same fake evil grin as Simon’s.

“I have to earnestly work hard. If we get to be in the same class would you teach me when I don’t understand something about magic? Because a scholarship student should be much better than me.”

“……I wonder?”

Simon looked at me first with a poisonous expression.

“Ah, but would you understand me if I would teach you?”

“Class distribution, huh……”

I sighed. Because there were many students enrolled, I shouldn’t expect us to be in the same class.

Anyway, I won’t know until after the admission.

While I groaned, I arrived at the objective place.

Though the uniform’s tailor seemed to come to the Academy and it’s to be done in some classroom they seemed to have prepared the measuring instruments.

There were two rooms prepared, one room was for the men and the other room was for the women.

――Do they do the measuring jointly?

I didn’t really want that.

Simon opened the door earlier and went in, I followed him reluctantly.

I didn’t want to see this that much.

I tried to push the reality aside for a while.

It’s because other than my – – No, Gray’s upper body I wasn’t used to seeing other men half naked.

In that room, there were several boys who took off their shirts.

Some screens were put up and one could see the tailor’s silhouette drifting by doing various operative movements.

The tailor seemed to be able to use magic.

He muttered while he measured the boy at the front with some kind of string, height, the width of shoulders, length of the arms, and size of the neck.

Then, on a close by desk, a pen would start working automatically. Those are probably the documents of every student which got filled out one after the other.

“What’s the matter?”

As my stiffened body, Simon directed his gaze wonderingly towards me.

“It’s nothing”

Even though I returned in a hurry I remembered the seal which should be on my chest.

――Can it be seen?

Inwardly I thought this is bad.

Even though the seal of eternal deprivation was hidden.

However, the line is steadily advancing.

It would clearly be strange if I didn’t do anything. And I couldn’t run away now either.

I took off my shirt before long. I looked down at my body while I hang it on a hanger close by.

I could slightly see the seal. I think it wouldn’t shine as much if I didn’t touch it with my fingers…….

“Are you hurt?”

Simons’ voice sounded from the rear and I almost jumped.

My heart made a strange sound.

“Eh”

I turned around awkwardly and looked into his face.

Then while he directed his eyes on my chest I took a hard look as well.

Being tempted I looked down on my body once again.

Then I saw that the skin under the seal was a disaster.

There was a big scar all over my chest there. It looked like skin that just recovered from a burn.

I was at a loss of words.

“I won’t pry”

He didn’t say anything more whether Simon minded me who has fallen silent or not.

I feel grateful for that.

That new seal seemed to have a function to somehow show something else covering the old seal.

It didn’t hide those wounds though, there was a different reason behind those – – and I thought it looked like magic.

“It’s difficult to cure a wound neatly”

He seemed to be looking for the right words. He probably wanted to ask about it but he was considerate enough not to.

“I hope it will heal. Hang in there.”

“……Thank you”

When I said those words I advanced towards the tailor somehow.

Though the man seemed to be slightly surprised by my chest he dismissed it, is that what you call a professional? He moved his eyes to the next boy, if he quickly finished his work in such a way one might think he didn’t show any interest in him at all.

I left the room and quickly got dressed so that other people no longer would see “the scar” on my chest.

I saw several girls who seem to have finished being measured standing in the corridor. Though I felt their eyes on me for an instant, I just passed them and started walking.

“As is expected, you attract attention”

Simon walking next to me while talking happily.

– – Do I attract attention?

I looked down at my body to check if there was anything weird. Simon laughed while shaking his shoulders.

“You have a fiancée, right? You should expose that while it’s still early.”

“Expose?”

“It’s a different matter if you want to be haunted by girls.”

“That’s troubling”

I said so from the bottom of my heart.
