Occasionally, Rachel would come to the mansion carrying stage costumes before the day of my school entrance.

They were, of course, all male clothes but they were really showy. A blouse with plenty of lace on it, befitting of a noble and jackets decorated with glittering decorations made to shine on a stage.

It seems l became Rachel’s dress-up doll somehow. Unfortunately, I looked good in those clothes.

Without losing to these too flashy clothes, Gray Sterling sported the looks of a pretty boy.

“Please don’t cry, young lady”

Claire called out to me who was at a loss while staring into the small mirror.

Rachel was in high spirits, “Next try this” and pulled out something out of the big pile of clothes.

Even though it’s fine, I want you to take those home again. The Augustine mansion is not a clothing room!

“For what purpose do I even go to school……?”

When I muttered with a half tearful expression, a half-smile on my lips, Claire looked puzzled.

“……To become a great man, I guess?”

“It’s probably different.”

“Different, huh?”

Claire looked at me with a serious expression incidentally clenching her fist quietly.

“The young lady is a woman”

“……Yeah”

I look back at her with furrowed eyebrows.

“So don’t act like a boy anymore. It’s already dangerous.”

“Yes, I know that, but still.”

“I think there’s also the possibility of dressing up as a woman.”

――Not!

I barely couldn’t endure the urge to cry. Being put through this transformation.

I am surely a girl. Contents only.

But the appearance is that of a good-looking man.

“Regarding the cross-dressing……”

Rachel turned around as she heard Claire’s words.

“I let you do it as much as you like if you join the drama club!”

“Rejected”

I declared my intentions of refusal without missing a beat.

“But I intend to threaten you with my position as a senior.”

“Rejected!”

However, she didn’t take any notice of my words and wore a glittering smile. I turn around facing the heap of clothes again while murmuring, “My new school life won’t be easy”.

I dropped my shoulders while staring at Rachel’s back.

It felt like she will be the biggest threat to my school life.

“The drama club might also be good”

I noticed Claire muttering happily.

The biggest threat inside my family might be Claire, I wanted to cry.

The day of the entrance ceremony came quickly.

Wrapped in the new uniform I sat in the carriage on the way to Wexford Academy.

The large yard of the Academy was filled with carriages. I admired the many luxurious carriages adorned with family crests, as expected of a school for rich people.

Oh, I was one of them, too.

Those carriages seemed to wait here until the entrance ceremony is over. Just looking at those carriages all crammed together made me feel exhausted.

I called out to the Coachman, Max.

“Seems like you have to wait here, I’m sorry”

“Waiting is part of my job”

Max seemed a bit surprised at first but recovered quickly.

People who seemed to be teachers guided the boys and girls who exited their carriages to the auditorium.

I think that all the students receiving guidance are freshmen.

The boys wore navy blue jackets and pants and under the jacket a simple white shirt. I thought the silver cuffs on the sleeves were stylish.

The girls wore a cute navy blue jacket with a slightly bigger collar, a fluttery long skirt and an airy light blue blouse. They had a ribbon with laces on their chests.

As I thought, the girl’s uniforms were cuter.

I enviously looked at the girls while thinking “How nice” before quickly averting my eyes from them.

If I just didn’t have this body now – – I became depressed.

Still, I somehow gathered my courage and entered the auditorium. After my name was confirmed on the temporary reception desk I was handed a bunch of documents and sat down on a chair.

Then.

“You attract attention, as I thought.”

I recognised this familiar voice just by hearing it and raised my head.

Simon laughed while he sat down on the chair adjacent to me.

“Long time no see.”

I smiled at him and shrugged.

“There are a lot of humans attracting more attention than me.”

“Yeah, that may be so.”

Simon ambiguously ended his words and fell into silence.

When I looked around I saw a lot of people with a flashy atmosphere around them.

Everybody was lively partly because they are excited because of the entrance ceremony. The scene of students openheartedly talking to their seat neighbours who they just met unfolded in this place.

But, as I thought, the girls attracted attention. They were all so pretty.

“Well, okay. More importantly”

Simon began to grin shortly after and looked at the document in my hand.

“Did you look into it yet? Your class should be written on it.”

“Is that so?”

I let my eyes drop on the document the moment I lowered the document in my hand. The name, Ace Riot, was written on the first page.

When I turned the page “Magic Department A” was written there and a map of the school’s layout.

“A, huh? Same as me. Please take care of me for the one year we are in the same class.”

Because Simon said something such as this, I knew that he was in the same class as me. I was kind of uneasy but also relieved to hear that someone I know is in the same class.

“Together with the scholarship student, huh……”

“I’m not the only scholarship student. It was quite intense as it seems.”

“Intense?”

“The fight of the result order”

Is it possible that class A is full of scholarship students, I wonder?

Would I die and fall behind if I didn’t do my best?

But let’s remember this.

My purpose for desperately studying in this school is to gain enough power to oppose Gray. It’s not to fight for the placement order.

However, Simon continued.

“Seems like when your grades drop you’ll also go down a level. If you can’t maintain A-class you won’t be able to learn magic of a higher difficulty.”

“Level……”

“Depending on one’s examination results one could be made to change class before the year is over. Let’s avoid that.”

――What a cruel world it is.

I let my eyes swim for a while. Simon seemed to observe me who was like that and kind of tried to laugh in a suppressed small tone.

What? Did he already find out that the contents were disappointing?

I sighed.

The entrance ceremony itself didn’t take that much time.

There was the formal explanation of the Academy’s principal about departments and classes, about some rules and before long we were sent to our respective classes.

The homeroom teacher will be the one giving a careful explanation.

I searched for the Magic Department class A while looking at the map drawn on the document together with Simon after we left the auditorium.

All the classes for the freshmen are on the first floor. I opened the door adorned with the Magic Department A plate and entered the classroom.

There were many students who already sat in their seats.

This might just be my first impression of them but everyone looked smart.

……Just because I said such an insolent thing during that interview.

That’s why I was thrown into this genius class.

Though I was filled with anxiety I tried to not show it on my face as I sat down at an unoccupied desk.

The textbook which I’ll probably be using from now on was on the desk. By the way, it was thick.

The teacher who seemed to be our homeroom teacher opened the door, sat down on a chair and opened the textbook.

He was a man in his mid-30s with impressive, big eyebrows and brown hair. And the eyes under his eyebrows had a certain intellectual coldness to them.

He sat down on the chair which was adjacent to the teacher’s desk and waited a while for new students to arrive.

The moment he noticed that no more new students entered and every seat was filled he stood up and stopped before the teacher’s desk.

“Welcome to Wexford Academy’s Magic Department.”

His voice had an intellectual tone to it as well.

“I’m Bright McLane and in charge of your class. Because classes formally begin tomorrow today will be cut short, so let me explain the rules of your new school life.”
