Chapter 7 – After the Invitation

“……The Drama club is great”

Mr. Yesterday’s victim called out to me the next day.

He didn’t have the sharp expression from the day before but looked at me with almost admiring eyes.

It was lunch time and the student in the seat before me was absent at that time. He sat down on the empty chair and sighed.

“It was full of pretty girls and they gave me tea and cake.”

“Yeah”

I nod.

Simon, who sat at the neighbouring seat, nodded many times.

“That cake was delicious. It seems to be high quality.”

“That Rachel person, the senior, what’s your relationship with her?”

The victim asked. Meanwhile, the other victim from yesterday – – plus the others added as a bonus came closer.

“That. I wanted to ask about that as well. Oh, I’m Macmillan Lord. I’m in your care.”

Mr. Victim gave his name and the other Mr. Victim seemed to pull himself together, too.

“I am Chad Park. I’m sorry about yesterday.”

“No, it’s all right”

I smiled wryly. This atmosphere wasn’t that bad. Chad’s expression seemed a little awkward.

“Rachel is a relative. I’m sorry, her personality is a little troublesome.”

When I said so Chad looked at me with narrowed eyes.

“A relative is it? Wasn’t she like a young lady from a very prestigious family? They called her Rachel-sama.”

“She’s the only daughter of a so-called prestigious family. I thought the Harris’s were famous.”

“Harris”

Chad, being surprised sucked in some air.

“……Hey, it’s them, right? It’s the family which has that famous paper mill around here.”

“That’s right”

I nodded.

I heard that Rachel’s father was a man of considerable ability. Because the quality of the paper they make is good they seem to have businesses in various places.

Their administration seems to always be in the black and they are steadily expanding.

“Them and relatives……”

Simon seemed to be surprised, too. Simon drew his chair closer to this place and asked awkwardly.

“Who’s your fiancée?”

I was a little troubled. Was it alright to say that here?

“Engagement, you say?”

“Are you serious?”

Chad and Macmillan had round eyes.

Well, it might be easier to tell them about the fiancée.

Even if I waste my popular period, I’m not troubled. I’m not exactly happy that I’m popular with girls.

“The only daughter of the Augustine household.”

After I said it Chad and McMillan were momentarily frozen and sucked in some air.

“Aren’t they powerful……?”

“Why is Ace in the Magic Department……?”

I looked puzzled after hearing that.

“Is it strange for me to be in the Magic Department? Everyone gives me somewhat strange reactions.”

I genuinely thought so. If one is able to use magic wouldn’t that be convenient? Daily life would get easier if one was able to use it.

“A handful of the guys want to make money as magicians, right?”

Chad says while looking amazed.

“If your abilities are lacking then it won’t be any good. When you’re rich you could just hire a magician.”

“That’s right”

McMillan added.

“It’s not only hard to become a magician the regulations are intense as well.”

“Then why did you join the Magic Department?”

“It’s more profitable than working in a factory.”

Chad shrugged.

“In addition, it would be advantageous for me to find employment even if I don’t graduate as a first class magician as long as I just have a license. The results of Wexford are especially great…… It’s possible to become an official without having a good social standing with only one’s educational background.”

“That’s severe”

I groaned.

I know that it’s hard to earn money. From their viewpoint, I’m blessed.

Our reason for coming here was different.

If Gray didn’t steal my body I would spend my school life nonchalantly in the general department.

Commonly one would just learn general things in that department. The general department of the Wexford Academy wasn’t particularly suitable for someone worrying about employment.

“I mean you have such a stable future why are you in the Magic Department? Aren’t you allowed to play around?”

Chad creased the middle of the forehead.

“……It’s not like that, honestly”

I shook my head while thinking of various ways to explain.

Simon who knew the official circumstances nodded silently next to me.

“Do you have some circumstances?”

“I do. Anyway, If I don’t study magic and swordsmanship seriously then-”

“Swordsmanship?”

Neither Chad nor McMillan knew what to say.

Simon muttered to me in a low voice.

“……Do you want to become a magical law enforcement investigator?”

――The hand is warm!

Because I stopped my movements suddenly, Simon seemed to read my thoughts.

“You’re strange”

――What?

When I seemed to be dissatisfied, and I looked at him, Simon scratched his head energetically.

“If we are talking about magical law enforcement investigators they are elites and you would be able to marry any difficult partner.”

“Eh, What’s that? Isn’t that reckless when you already have a fiancée?”

Macmillan leant forward. It was really fun.

“It seems like the marriage wasn’t yet completely consented to. Seems like he has to get good results in Wexford to make it work”

Simon said in a low voice.

“That again”

“A difficult problem”

Let’s decide not to mind, well, even though that story advanced without permission.

As long as it is an understandable explanation for me being in the Wexford Magic Department.

“Isn’t that something completely absurd to ask of an engagement partner? Is that all right?”

Simon seems somewhat worried. Unfortunately, he was pretty close.

“No, it’s all right”

I said so powerfully to make one understand.

Chad looked puzzled.

“Is she that attractive? The daughter of the Augustine household?”

“Of course”

I clutched my hands as I said so.

“I’m the one saying this, but she’s very cute! An amazingly beautiful girl!”

“Ah, this guy is an idiot.”

Chad said this quietly.

What did you say?

When I scowled at him he averted his eyes anxiously.

“They say love makes blind.”

Simon spoke without looking me.

Shiiit, if I could tell you the truth you would understand!

Now they think I’m some kind of foolish man in love!

This is all that Gray guy’s fault.

“Therefore tell me if there there’s something I don’t understand in my studies.”

When I said this successively, Simon clapped my shoulder.

“If you’re fine with me.”

“Ah, I’ll help, too.”

“Me tooー”

Everyone gave me somewhat sympathetic looks, I didn’t mind, though. I don’t mind at all!

And then after school on that day.

I stood up from my seat being fired up because we were going to look at the gymnasium today.

Even if it’s martial arts, even if it’s swordsmanship I wanted to check clubs like that because anything would be fine.

Then I opened the door of the classroom.

In addition, there was Rachel’s figure

I closed the door with a slam and escape behind Simon.

“This again……”

I looked around while hearing Simon mutter amazed.

“Now then, Aaaaace.”

Rachel approached me with a villainous smile.

I notice the girl with curly blond hair and looked at her with a smile.

“Hey, you”

My innocent smile was in motion.

She looked up at me being slightly surprised for having been called and blushed a little.

“Are you interested in joining the Drama club?”

“Eh, the Drama club?”

“Yes, because you are such a beautiful woman you would illuminate the stage with your brilliance.”

“Eeh!?”

After she held her breath for a moment she nodded several times. “I-I-I want to, by all means, yes!”

I took her hand quietly and delivered her to Rachel her cheeks turned even redder. Furthermore, several other female students who watched this were caught too.

“Have a nice day”

“How awful”

I heard Chad say this in the back.

“You should’ve told them that you have a fiancée earlier.”

Simon being at his wit’s end said that.
