Chapter 8 – Visiting the Swordsmanship Deparment

“I apologise to them later! But for now, I’ll escape.”

When I said that I grabbed my things and left the classroom, Simon who panicked ran after me.

“Wait, Ace!”

“Don’t stop me!”

“I don’t want to stop you. I want to come as well because it seems interesting.”

Did it really seem interesting?

I looked back while I was walking at a quick pace and saw Simon who seems to be interested and asked.

“And? Where are we going?”

“……to the gymnasium.”

While I am at a loss, I left the main building and went outside.

When we reached the gymnasium I took a look inside. In it were the figures of unexpectedly many students.

There seem to be clubs for swordsmanship and martial arts as I expected. However, the Swordsmanship Department stood out after all.

To prevent injury they wore something like simple armour and swung swords. The student’s movements were a little awkward, but they had bouts with familiar movements.

It has been long since I watched some sword practice so I was somewhat happy. I always had a sense of oppression every time I swung my sword against a tree.

Uuuh, I also want to participate already. I’m so impatient.

I still watched their movements when I noticed a student with the sharpest movements.

The armour’s helmet didn’t really cover his face. He had a serious look and a silver forelock spilled out from under it.

“It seems to be popular”

Simon was looking in the same direction I was looking and smiled wryly.

Occupying a part of the gymnasium the Swordsmanship Department stood out, but the female students watching it from the distance weren’t any less noticeable.

Though the figure of them cheering kyaa, kyaa was certainly cute I thought that it would honestly be distracting. That’s what I think.

“I wonder if I should tell the advising teacher that I want to join. Where might he be?”

I muttered this while staring at the practice scene before Simon adn I seemed to be surprised.

“Eh? You want to join this club already?”

“Of course. As fast as possible.”

“What about the Drama club?”

“Rejected.”

“……Even though it fits Ace’s appearance.”

Simon muttered this quietly next to me but I took little notice of it and advanced towards the Swordsmanship Department.

There were the figures of many students who were probably visitors next to the wall.

Therefore I noticed.

Their cuffs on their sleeves had a different form than mine. Usually, the cuffs express in which Department the student is, their motif was the sun.

As for the cuffs of the Magic Department, our motif was a moon.

“Every applicant who wants to join the club, gather up.”

A person who seems to be a member of the Swordsmanship Department called out to the students gathered around the area of the wall.

The practice was still going and everyone was watching but they turned their eyes towards the owner of that voice.

He held his helmet in one hand and laughed calmly. Was he the captain of the Swordsmanship Department? That gentle appearance didn’t seem to fit the Swordsmanship Department very much.

I tried to shyly approach, too. Only Simon stayed at a further away place.

“I am third grade’s Leon Smith. I’m the captain of this Swordsmanship Department.”

He said so and lowered his head lightly. Then his soft blond hair seemed to shake.

“The Swordsmanship Department of Wexford has various matches against other schools regularly. Because the training is hard, being laid-back…… isn’t a good attitude. However, because you can’t know if it’s enjoyable unless you try, please join the club without worries.”

Leon smiled innocently. Then he seemed to somehow gain the favour of the female students. When he smiled small shouts of joy came from the female students who watched from a distance.

Oooh, this somehow seemed like a different world.

Since I was only in contact with Claire at the mansion it was something new for me to see so many people gathered here. Besides, everybody is of the same age.

School life is splendid.

“By the way, is there someone experienced in swordsmanship here?”

Leon slightly looked puzzled and looked around.

Most people who were gathered in the place didn’t seem to have experience in swordsmanship. However, two people put up their hands saying “A little”.

Is it good even if it’s just a little?

Then I put my hand up, too.

“Experienced people are welcome”

He watched the students who put up their hands each and nodded.

“Please observe a little. You can fill out the club registration later if you want.”

While the other new students began conversations with the students close to them Leon approached me.

“The Magic Department, huh?”

He smiled calmly. He looked at my wrist-cuff, it seemed like he noticed that I was from the Magic Department.

“Are you an experienced as well?”

When he said that to Simon who was beside me he shook his head in a panic.

“I’m not an applicant in the first place.”

“Aah, is that so?”

Leon seemed a little relieved for some reason.

“I was just thinking that it must be hard balancing your studies in the Magic Department.”

He said it like this but it felt like he was hiding something behind that smile of his.

“……basically, you have to bring your own things to the Swordsmanship Department.”

He made a small ‘fu’ sound. Then I noticed.

――One had to provide an armour and a sword by oneself.

“Thank you for your consideration”

I smiled quietly. “Why are you telling this just me? Everyone doesn’t know about this yet.”

I was kind of able to understand his intention.

Usually, the students of the Magic Department weren’t as rich as the students of the general course.

And the Swordsmanship Department seemed to be a money-consuming club. When I looked around students using swords adorned with jewels and unpractical swords weren’t an unusual sight here.

Even the armour which looked simple seemed easy to move in and rather durable. Those things were expensive.

Leon probably confirmed it – – looking around without the normal students noticing. Something like that.

“I’m sorry for doing such a rude thing.”

He said that while putting up his eyebrows. I laughed a little.

“Not at all”

I looked at the training scene before me to change the subject.

“That person over there seems to be really good.”

I quietly point at the silver haired student. He was tall and stood out even more.

“Aah, He is……Well, that’s his only merit, I guess?”

Rion laughed in a complicated manner.

Mmm? Only?

When I tilted my neck, Leon sighed.

“That guy is kind of weird, you may ignore him. How do say this?……He is allergic to blond hair.”

“Allergic to blond hair?”

Simon and I looked puzzled.

Leon laughed with a Ha, ha and waved his hand.

“You’ll probably be fine so don’t worry. He’s just a little eccentric.”

I wonder what it was.

I furrowed my brows as I watched Mr. Silver hair stopping his hand while training.

I casually observe his sword. It’s slightly bigger than the ones of the other students. It was probably heavy. Although there was a blue jewel embedded in it poorly it was made with utility in mind.

The roughness of the sword stood out and reminded me of the ones I saw in the Judiciary Station.

“I’m Josh Martin”

He walked straight over here, took off his helmet and looked down on me.

Huge.

Yes, his muscles looked great.

Did he say his only merit is the sword?

I secretly glanced at Leon’s profile. Then I look up at Josh once again.

Appearance 90%. I remembered this.

Even when judging Alex his personality was completely different from his appearance. Even Josh who stood before me may be different.

“I’m Ace Riot, a club applicant. Please take care of me.”

When I politely said this he nodded as if he was puzzled for a little. Then he returned to his practice.

“What was that?”

Simon suspiciously looked at Josh’s back.

“There are a lot of blond people in this world. Seems like there is another one wanting to join this year.”

Leon played with one of his golden strands of hair as he muttered amazed.

I was tempted to do the same.
