The words were written clearly on the paper...

Jacob easily recognized Emily's handwriting and the last word written on the back.

"Goodbye!"

'That's not possible!'

This letter was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back for Jacob. He couldn't believe what he had just read as he threw the letter to the ground. He grabbed his phone and scrambled to look for Emily's number.

His fingers trembled as he tapped on call and stuck his phone to his ear. For the first time in his entire life, this man finally tasted the true taste of fear and anxiety.

'Pick up the phone, pick up the phone!'

"Sorry, the number you have dialed is not..."

Jacob called again.

"Sorry, the number you have dialed..."

He tried a third time.

"Sorry..."

Bang!

In a fit of rage, Jacob threw his phone at the wall, shattering the screen on impact. It seemed as though his life had been sucked out of him and his vision was turning dark.

He had lost her... She was gone... Forever...

"This can't be happening! Emily!"

Jacob's words were muffled by his fingers as he covered his face in utter despair.

He was the only person who knew Emily well enough to know that this time, she was really gone.

No wonder she hadn't pushed him away last night. No wonder she'd said yes to him with a soft smile.

All of that had been her parting gift to him for her unexpected departure today.

"Emily! Emily!"

Nothing but the sound of an old grandfather clock ticking and the rustling branches of trees outside the house echoed Jacob's desperation.

All her life, Emily had dreaded the thought of being alone. One could only imagine how desperate she must have been to come to this decision.

Jacob felt a numbness in his knees and before long. he found himself on the ground. With one hand, he clutched his chest in pain as he realized the horror of his mistake.

When Jacob's eyes fell on the letter on the floor, his hatred consumed him. He reached out to grab it with his other hand and ripped it to pieces.

Slowly... Tears welled up in his eyes, blurring his vision as well as his emotions, before rolling down his face and landing on the floor

p contemplation, wondering if he should try to talk Jacob out of it.

Although he was only an assistant, Sam had witnessed everything that Jacob and Emily had been through since the very beginning of their relationship. He knew that Jacob was only getting a divorce now because he had lost his memory. If he were to regain his memory in the future, Jacob would certainly come to regret his decision now.

Moreover, it was Jacob who had lost his memory, not Emily. What was a divorce going to achieve?

Sam decided to talk some sense into Jacob the next day, but Jacob's reaction made him even more confused.

Jacob worked like a robot all day long. He kept himself busy by working through all kinds of projects. He didn't even give Sam a chance to talk at all.

He would spend nights at the office working through the hours without even changing his clothes for days.

Jacob saw through Sam's attempt to talk to him. How could he not know what was in Sam's mind?

However, Jacob didn't want to think about anything related to Emily right now, so he decided to use his work to paralyze his heart. Only in this way could he have a moment of peace.

Moreover, Darren was secretly starting to move in on his territory. The only way for Jacob to come out of this victorious was to speed up and deal with Darren as quickly as possible.

Under such enormous pressure, Jacob had to work like a man who did not know how to rest or feel tired.
