"I did it…"
A ragged voice filled the silent forest, or to be exact, its remnants. A barren land would be a more fitting description to it now.
A young man was lying down at the middle of that land with a satisfied smile on his face. The hair color of the young man was a bit unusual, a silver color. The hair was drenched with his sweat, appearing rather disorganized.
The man's bright blue eyes were in a half-closed state, showing signs of closing at any moment. He was wearing a black body armor, covering his whole body. A black helmet was seen on the ground, near the reclined man.
However, the armor was not in a perfect condition. It was half-broken. Blood was oozing out of the large wound beneath it.
"Sylvester Atkins, in the name of the royal family, I, Natalia Hancock, offers you our gratitude and… apology."
A sweet voice filled the barren land. A beautiful female knight stood beside the young man. The lady's light blue eyes were filled with sorrow and determination as she stares at the young man on the ground.
A light blue sword, tainted with blood, was planted firmly on the ground in front of Natalia. Her two hands were holding the sword's handle firmly.
There was no response from the young man, who was referred to as Sylvester Atkins. There was only a small smile, formed on his handsome, pale face.
The gentle smile caused tears to starts flowing out of Natalia's eyes, stopping when it reached the edge of her finely carved oval face and her pursed lips. Her long, black hair was fluttering, caused by an abrupt gale.
Sylvester Atkins tried to move his body with great difficulty when he saw the tears coming out of Natalia's face. The smile that was formed before turned into a frown, but soon turned back once again. Due to the severe blood loss, Sylvester barely managed to move his head, enough to make an eye contact with Natalia's standing figure.
"Why… are you crying…? This is for the best."
SLUMP
Natala fell down to her knees. The broken armor she wore made a weak metallic sound as it came in contact with the ground. The armor trembled along with her body. She covered her face with both of her hands, letting out all the feelings sealed within her. Soon, she lifted her head up, facing the clear blue sky, as if questioning the heavens for its decision.
"Hey"
Sylvester lets out a pained expression after forcing out another word. The action caught Natalia's attention as she stopped her wailing and made an eye contact with him. However, Sylvester's state only served to increase her anguish as she bent her body, letting her face to be buried on his blood-soaked chest.
"I'm sorry…" She whispered beneath her face, allowing only her and Sylvester to hear the words.
"It's okay…"
The land was once again filled with silence. The two figure stayed in that same position for some time.
"Hey, Natalia. I don't think I can last much longer. It's starting to feel cold."
Natalia lifted her head up. The dried cheeks were, once again, wet with the newly formed tears from her eyes.
"Will you promise me something?"
Natalia nodded, unable to say anything.
"Smile. Every day. You look much more beautiful when you smile. Also, don't hesitate to do the things you think is right."
The voice was starting to sound ragged. Sylvester was aware that he doesn't have much time left and took a deep breath. He tried to squeeze out every inch of energy to give raised his right hand, touching Natalia's cheeks.
"I love you…"
Sylvester's hand fell turned limp but didn't fell to the ground, it was supported by Natalia's grip. She could feel his frozen hand as he closed his eyes. Natalia's world seemed to stop at the last parting words. There is no light within her eyes as her body stopped moving entirely as if turned into a statue. A sorrowful statue.
An hour passed by without her moving a muscle.
When Natalia finally moved, her lifeless eyes were filled with a new light. There is a gorgeous smile on her face, capable of melting even an angel's heart. It was a beautiful smile indeed.
