Chapter 4.21 – Don’t Tell Me You Can’t…(1)

That night, Shen Zheng Duo arrived at the hospital, evidently infuriated to the point of laughter, “I heard the university will start accepting the application forms? Where’s your form? Take it out, let’s go through it carefully.”

Hearing this, Xiang Han quietly slipped away.

Sure enough, as soon as he shut the door, there was a loud roar. He scratched his ears and ran off to find someone else to help.

Very quickly, Shen Zheng Duo was scolded by the doctor for kicking up a big ruckus. He couldn’t even let out his roar and ultimately, choked back his anger until his face turned as red as a pig’s head.

He paced about the room back and forth, abruptly turning back to glare at Shen Ze, “Where’s your application form? Take it out, I’ll help you reapply.”

“It’s already been submitted, it can’t be changed.” Shen Ze replied fearlessly.

“Y…You!” Shen Zheng Duo was infuriated to the point of suffocation. In the end, he only threw down a sentence, “You’re angering me to death!”

Zhu Jing Yi came to deliver food to the brothers and the two of them coincidentally met outside the hospital room.

Shen Zheng Duo took a look at the lunch box in her hands and his anger erupted once more, “What’s there to eat? His old man is already full from his anger, let him starve!”

“What happened?” Zhu Jing Yi passed the lunch box to Xiang Han who was behind her and gave him a look before pulling Shen Zheng Duo away.

Silently slipping back into the room, Xiang Han wasted no time taking out the food and helped Shen Ze fill up a bowl, “Hurry up and eat. Any later, and you won’t be able to.”

Sure enough, just as the two of them finished eating, the door opened with a slam. Zhu Jing Yi came in with a dark face and said to Xiang Han, “Zhao Han, come here!”

Xiang Han’s face scrunched up, silently thinking he was done for. Zhu Jing Yi was so angry she’d even forgotten he’d changed his name.

He hurriedly shoveled the last bit of rice into his mouth and departed under Shen Ze’s sympathetic gaze.

Seeing him approach, Zhu Jing Yi mercilessly twisted his ears in anger as she fumed, “Your guts sure have grown. Such an important matter like this, and you didn’t think to tell me at all? It’s fine if you chose seriously, but why did you choose classical literature? Are you too bored? Why don’t you study archaeology instead?”

Xiang Han struggled to free his ear and covered it pitifully, “Mom, I’m… more interested in that.”

“Can your interest fill your stomach?” Zhu Jing Yi immediately went for his other ear. Shen Zheng Duo, who had been watching from the side, momentarily forgot his anger towards Shen Ze and coaxed her instead.

Lying in bed, Shen Ze clearly saw his ears turn red and his eyes couldn’t help but reveal a hint of laughter. He suddenly had an urge to touch them.

Although Shen Zheng Duo and Zhu Jing Yi were furious, they couldn’t do anything since the applications had already been submitted. Moreover, Shen Ze and Xiang Han were adamant about their choices. So, they ultimately had to give in.

Shen Ze rested in the hospital for more than half a month before going home to rest for another half a month. Finally, he could walk with crutches. However, he used his wounds as an excuse to rely on Xiang Han most of the time.

Now that Shen Ze was a good student and no longer hung out with thugs, Zhu Jing Yi was happy to see the relationship between the brothers flourish. Shen Zheng Duo, on the other hand, couldn’t stand it and muttered, “Look at yourself. Do you still expect Little Han to help you everyday even when you enter university?”

Shen Ze felt that his words made a lot of sense and quickly discussed it, “Once school starts, my injury probably wouldn’t have completely healed. Can you arrange for me and Shen Han to be in the same dorm?”

“Do you need me to hire a nanny to wait on you?” Shen Zheng Duo’s tone was extremely bad.

Xiang Han nodded enthusiastically, agreeing with Shen Zheng Duo’s suggestion.

However, Zhu Jing Yi simply laughed, “Why bother? Just rent an apartment nearby.”

Xiang Han was speechless. My biological mother, this rascal has ill-intentions towards your son.

Shen Ze immediately became happy. Seeing Xiang Han at a loss for words, he quickly said, “Thank you.”

Before school began, Shen Zheng Duo finally achieved his wishes and hosted a grand banquet. Because of Father Shen’s request, Xiang Han and Shen Ze also invited a few classmates, with whom they shared a good relationship, to sit at a table.

Shen Ze still had a limp and had problems moving about. After giving a toast to his teachers and classmates, he let Xiang Han help him back to the guest room in the hotel. Since he still needed to take Shen Ze’s place and help him entertain his classmates, Xiang Han left quickly.

Before the party ended, a few students suggested finding a karaoke place since no one knew when the next time they would meet, after today.

Xiang Han informed Zhu Jing Yi and left with everyone.

Shen Ze had one too many drinks earlier on and was taking a short nap when Shen Zheng Duo woke him up.

His brows furrowed, asking, “Where’s Shen Han?”

“He’s already left with some classmates. I’ll let the driver send you back first,” Shen Zheng Duo said.

“Why didn’t he tell me?” The frown on Shen Ze’s face deepened and unhappiness grew in his heart.

“Why should he tell you?” Shen Zheng Duo was puzzled. Pushing him along, he said, “Hurry up, the driver is already waiting for you downstairs.”

Shen Ze pursed his lips but didn’t say anything else as he went downstairs, fearing Shen Zheng Duo would notice something.

Sitting in the car, he finally couldn’t hold back. The more he thought about it, the angrier he grew, and finally, he dialed Xiang Han’s number.

On Xiang Han’s side, things were extremely lively and he needed to shout into the phone, “Hello! Wait a moment, let me go out first.”

Shen Ze waited patiently until the noise coming through the phone became lower before asking, while suppressing his mood, “Where are you?”

“I’m at Charm KTV.”

Shen Ze scanned the online map for a minute and asked again, “Which one?”

“This…” Xiang Han truly didn’t know and had to ask a passing staff member before replying, “The one at Anye Street. Are you coming too?”

Then, before Shen Ze could reply, he already declared, “Don’t come, I’m coming home soon.”

Instead, Shen Ze said, “Wait for me at the entrance. It’s conveniently on the way home. I’ll let the driver come pick you up.”

The driver, “…” It wasn’t convenient at all?

After Xiang Han hung up, he returned to the booth to inform the rest of his classmates. Everyone was currently singing happily and although they were disappointed when they heard this, they understood, “Hurry on, then. We’ll leave in a while.”

“Wait.” A short-haired girl suddenly stood up with a shy smile and said, “I’m also heading home, let’s go together.”

“Oh~” A few male students suddenly started hollering, causing the girl’s face to redden deeply.

Xiang Han took a moment before he recognised Zhang Lulu. She used to sit in front of him in class. Thinking how dangerous it was for a girl to go alone, he nodded, “Sure.”

Afraid that the bunch of air-headed fools would begin cat-calling once more, they quickly left but jeers could still be heard coming from the room.

The two of them took the elevator down and Zhang Lulu kept her head down the entire time until they walked out. She finally asked bashfully, “Can I… trouble you to walk me to the bus stop on the opposite side?”

“Oh, sure.”

Seeing that the street lights were rather dim and the trees were abundant, Xiang Han sent her across the road.

After thanking him, Zhang Lulu suddenly panicked, “S-Shen Han, I also… got into Peking University.”

“Congratulations.”

Xiang Han thought she wanted to invite him to the university’s orientation dinner and had already prepared an answer. Unexpectedly, this girl said, “Shen Han, you probably don’t know this but I-I’ve always liked you. If you don’t have anyone you like, can you…”

“Sorry, he already has a person he likes.” No one knew when Shen Ze appeared. He abruptly grabbed Xiang Han’s elbows, dragging him back and putting a distance between him and Zhang Lulu.

“Ah?” Xiang Han cried out in surprise as Zhang Lulu instinctively turned to look at him for confirmation, “Is that so?”

Shen Ze held Xiang Han’s forearm in a tight grip with a dark expression and kind-heartedly ‘reminded’ him, “Younger brother, one must be honest. And especially… you shouldn’t cheat a girl’s feelings.”

Feeling the pain coming from his hands, Xiang Han apologised, “Sorry, I do… have someone I like.”

“Ah?” This time around, it was Zhang Lulu who muttered in surprise, her voice heavy with disappointment.

“Sorry, but we still have something to do. We’ll leave first.” Shen Ze pulled Xiang Han to leave and pushed him into the car without any gentleness at all before he got in. Slamming the door shut, he squeezed out two words through his tightly clenched teeth, “Let’s go.”

Xiang Han inexplicably felt stifled and laughed drily in an attempt to lighten the atmosphere, “I didn’t expect you to reach so quickly. I thought I would still need to wait for a while.”

Shen Ze remained silent, and the words ‘I’m extremely unhappy’ was clearly written all over his face. Xiang Han glanced at him and gradually stopped talking.

When they arrived home, Shen Ze got down the car with a dark face, “Help me up.”

Xiang Han passed the crutches to him, but on seeing that he refused to take it, he could only, helplessly, compromise.

Supporting Shen Ze to the living room, he said he wanted to go upstairs and Xiang Han helped him up the stairs. Shen Ze’s lips pursed, “It’s only a few more steps to my room.”

“Since it’s only a few steps, why don’t you go by yourself?”

Shen Ze didn’t speak, only looking at Xiang Han heavily as if he had done something unthinkable and unforgivable.

“Forget it.” Xiang Han compromised once more and helped him into the room.

Shen Ze stealthily closed the door behind him and when they approached the bed, his body abruptly lost its balance. As he fell, he brought Xiang Han down with him on the bed.

Xiang Han was afraid Shen Ze had hurt himself and hurriedly asked, “Are you okay? Did you hit your leg?”

Shen Ze lay wordlessly, his gaze fixed on Xiang Han’s body, growing deeper and deeper.

Xiang Han finally noticed something was wrong and wanted to get up while continuing to ask, “What…What’s wrong?”

Shen Ze suddenly grabbed his arms and pinned him on the bed while he adjusted to a more comfortable position to prevent the other person from moving. He gritted his teeth, “The night is long. In order to prevent something like this from happening again in the future, we should properly establish our relationship tonight.”

Saying so, he directly went for Xiang Han’s clothes. His gaze was dark, like a storm.
