In the myth and legends, the ancestors of the Great Jin and Daimao nations were two brothers of the same family. Due to disagreements, the two brothers separated their families, one heading east and the other heading west, never to see each other again. As their descendants multiplied, their living areas expanded, eventually forming the two nations we have today: Great Jin and Daimao.

There are two versions of this ancient legend. In the Great Jin version, the older brother was suspicious and greedy, eventually moving to the land where the Daimao nation resides. In the Daimao version, the younger brother was weak and timid, ultimately settling in the territory of Great Jin.

The scholars of both nations often composed poems and writings to elevate their own ancestors while subtly criticizing the ancestors of the other nation. This story is also frequently adapted into folk dramas and performances.

Regardless of how the people of both nations secretly slandered each other, the literati of Daimao carried a faint sense of superiority in their hearts, believing that they held a higher status within their own country and possessed more prestigious voices.

These Daimao scholars, who were accustomed to lofty discussions, were surprised to find that the scholars in Great Jin lacked both the aura and status they expected. At street food stalls, they saw farmers sitting at the same table as scholars. Even in teahouses and taverns, these scholars remained quiet and did not gather together to compose poems or engage in literary discussions. They found that the scholars in Great Jin lacked the demeanor expected of scholars.

After inquiring around, they learned that this teahouse was a popular gathering place for literati in the capital city. The three of them specifically came here. Little did they know that apart from being a bit quieter and having more scholars, this teahouse was not much different from others.

As fellow scholars, they felt ashamed of the weakness and mediocrity of the Great Jin scholars. However, since they were in Great Jin's territory and didn't want to criticize the scholars directly, they could only complain about women.

To their surprise, the seemingly ordinary and easily bullied scholars in Great Jin unexpectedly slammed the table as soon as they made a few casual remarks.

"The one who gave birth to me is my mother, naturally a woman," said Liu Daren, an older man from Daimao and a renowned scholar who also served as the teacher of the Daimao's Crown Prince.

Liu Daren politely arched his hand towards the scholar who slammed the table, "I wonder what insights this young brother has?"

"I wouldn't call them insights," replied the scholar from Great Jin in a Qing Dynasty-style robe with composure, "If the esteemed elder knows that it is a woman who gave you flesh and blood, why do you look down upon women in your words?"

"The nature of women is to bear children. What does it have to do with what this old man is saying?" said Liu Daren, "Men are yang, women are yin. If women engage in men's affairs, it would be reversing yin and yang, which will inevitably lead to chaos in the world."

"Daren, you don't seem like someone from our Great Jin," the scholar in the Qing Dynasty-style robe smiled ambiguously and asked, "May I know which distinguished country you are from?"

"I am just a humble person, serving as the tutor to the Daimao's Crown Prince," Liu Daren said with a dignified tone, revealing his identity.

"No wonder, so you are from Daimao," the scholar in the Qing Dynasty-style robe smiled even brighter, "The young men of Great Jin are different from your country. The world won't fall into chaos just because a woman does something. Our Emperor is wise and martial, our politics are clean, and the people live in peace and prosperity. There is nothing inappropriate about it."

"Shouldn't women stay in the inner courtyard, manage household chores, give birth to children, and not show their faces outside all day?" Liu Daren did not expect the scholar in the Qing Dynasty-style robe to use this argument to counter him. From an objective standpoint, Great Jin was indeed more prosperous than Daimao. But what use was prosperity without rules? It simply felt chaotic.

"Oh," the scholar in the Qing Dynasty-style robe suddenly realized, "I didn't know why you all were so dissatisfied with the women of Great Jin, but now I understand."

"Why?" other scholars from Great Jin shouted and asked.

"Yes, tell us quickly."

"Naturally, it's jealousy," the scholar in the Qing Dynasty-style robe shook his head and said with a playful tone, "The young women of Great Jin can write poetry, paint, and even ride horses skillfully. With such excellent young women in our Great Jin, life is much easier for us men. Your young men don't have such fortune. When they come to our Great Jin, they naturally feel uncomfortable, wishing they could live the same kind of life as us."

"I see," Another scholar in a blue robe sighed, shaking his head, "Though the three of you are not natives of Great Jin, we are scholars after all. We should have broad minds and not feel jealous when others are doing well. As the saying goes, jealousy makes one ugly. If you envy the young men of our Great Jin, you can always marry our Great Jin women. Although your appearances may be ordinary, our Great Jin women do not judge based on looks. Perhaps someone might be interested in you."

"Nonsense!" Liu Daren, the esteemed scholar, trembled with anger, his lips quivering, "You allow women to be so audacious and not be ashamed, but even take pride in it. It's truly absurd."

"It's the three of you who are absurd. Don't you have mothers, sisters, and daughters?" the scholar in the blue robe sneered, "To witness your mothers and daughters being treated as inferior but not seek to change it, thinking that this is the right way, that's what's absurd."

"When you speak such words, have you ever considered the women in your own families?" the scholar in the Qing Dynasty-style robe added, "To not protect one's mother is unfilial. To not protect one's children is unkind. People like you, who are neither filial nor kind, shouldn't talk about yin and yang or the order of the world. I'm ashamed to be associated with you."

"You rely on numbers, but all you have is a quick tongue," Liu Daren, the esteemed scholar, was rendered speechless by the barrage of arguments from the scholars. The other two scholars who wanted to defend Liu Daren were immediately silenced and berated by the scholars. They started to doubt their own lives and wished they could escape with their faces covered.

What was wrong with these Great Jin scholars? They seemed mild-mannered on the surface, speaking softly outside, but when it came to arguing, they were fierce.

"So what if we have a female general in Great Jin? She defends our home and country, showing no fear in the face of enemies. What does that have to do with you?"

"If you look down on our female general, you can go to the Marquis's mansion and insult her if you dare. We won't stop you."

"Indeed, you are all proud men. If you have a problem with someone, confront them directly and insult them face-to-face. We would respect you for that. The three of you claim to be scholars, yet you don't even understand the basic principle of not spreading rumors behind someone's back. How can you dare call yourselves scholars?" The speaker's face was filled with disdain, as if saying, "Go away, we scholars don't have traitors like you among us." The expression was vivid.

Liu Daren, the esteemed scholar, was furious, and it took him a while to stammer, "You incompetent fools can only be lapdogs under women's skirts!"

"Well, I would like to be a lapdog under General Wei's skirt, but unfortunately, she doesn't fancy me."

Huh?

The Great Jin scholars all turned their heads to look at the speaker, an elderly man sitting in the corner.

"Why are you all staring? Who hasn't had dreams of a fairy in their youth?" The old scholar blushed and said, "When General Wei was young, she was the most beautiful woman in the capital."

"Well, Lao Daren, you're quite straightforward," the scholar in the blue robe said, "It's okay to dream a little."

The scholars burst into laughter, understanding that the "straightforwardness" mentioned by the scholar in the blue robe implied that General Wei wasn't interested in the old scholar. The old scholar also became angry but sighed, "Whether it's men or women, aren't they all human beings? I don't understand why the three of you are so fixated on the distinction between men and women. But in my opinion, General Wei has defended the people against countless enemies, even when she was pregnant and learned that Great Jin needed her, that the people needed her, she rushed to the battlefield without hesitation. If the people of Great Jin criticize her simply because she is a woman, that's ingratitude. A hero is a hero, regardless of gender."

"The ones who gave birth to you and nurtured you are also the women you're talking about," the old scholar sneered, "If you look down on women so much, then please end your lives quickly so that the bodies born from these women won't taint your noble souls."

"Well said, Lao Daren!" the scholars cheered, "We think the three of you made a lot of sense, but we are afraid of death and content with the current situation. Since your stance is so clear, why not lead by example and end your lives and become a role model for us?"

"Please."

"Go ahead, start quickly, we won't stop you."

"You... you..." Liu Daren, the esteemed scholar, turned pale, and angrily said, "You simply don't know what you're talking about."

After saying that, he lifted his robe sleeve, covered his face, and hurriedly left the teahouse amid the laughter of the crowd. The two people who came with him followed hastily, but they tripped over their robes as they ran too fast and ended up rolling on the ground.

In such a disheveled state, their scholarly elegance was nowhere to be seen.

"What rubbish! General Wei is someone they are unworthy to talk about," Yao Wenyin was about to explode with anger. If it weren't for Yao Songbai firmly holding her back, she would have picked up a teacup from the table and smashed it.

"Sister, the Crown Prince is still here. Can you please restrain yourself a bit?" Yao Songbai whispered in Yao Wenyin's ear, "Let's save some face, alright?"

Yao Wenyin, who had lost her temper, finally remembered that the Crown Prince was also present in their group. She put down the raised teacup and forced a dry laugh. When she turned to see that Hua Liuli's face showed no sign of anger, she couldn't help but ask, "Those three scoundrels insulted General Wei. You are her daughter, aren't you angry?"

Upon hearing the words "scoundrels", Yao Songbai's expression stiffened, and he no longer dared to look at the Crown Prince's face.

"Why should I be angry?" Hua Liuli smiled, "Not only am I not angry, but I'm also actually quite happy."

"Are you out of your mind? When someone insults your mother, you..."

Yao Songbai covered his sister's mouth with his hand and smiled at Hua Liuli, "Junzhu, I apologize. My sister had a bit too much tea and her mind isn't very clear."

Yao Wenyin: "..."

She didn't have a habit of getting drunk on tea.

"Mother is protecting the people of Great Jin. It's a good thing for the people of Great Jin to remember her kindness, isn't it?" Hua Liuli's gaze swept over the scholars who defended her mother, and her eyes were filled with extreme gentleness.

When these scholars confronted the scholars from the Kingdom of Daimao, they were like fierce tigers. Now that they were gone, they returned to their gentle and peaceful demeanor. They continued playing chess and drinking tea, and lament why General Wei had to marry.

Who could have imagined that these seemingly delicate and easy-going scholars would be so fierce when defending their own people?

Yao Wenyin was stunned. The anger in her heart disappeared instantly, and she awkwardly blushed, "I apologize. I misunderstood you."

"I understand that Miss Yao meant well. How could I be angry with you?" Hua Liuli smiled gently, showing great understanding.

Yao Songbai sighed silently. If his sister could be as gentle and calm as Fushou Junzhu, their family would have fewer worries.

Noticing Yao Songbai's gaze toward Hua Liuli, the Crown Prince spoke, "It's getting late. I should escort Junzhu back home."

Hearing that the Crown Prince was leaving, the Yao siblings didn't dare to stay longer. They quickly stood up and went downstairs with the Crown Prince.

Yao Wenyin felt guilty for misunderstanding Hua Liuli and felt uneasy while walking. Suddenly, her foot slipped and she was about to fall down the stairs.

"Miss Yao, be careful," Hua Liuli extended her hand in the blink of an eye, holding onto Yao Wenyin's waist, "It's dangerous to fall down from here."

Resting against Hua Liuli's chest, Yao Wenyin felt a bit dazed. Smelling the faint fragrance on Hua Liuli's body, she realized what had just happened.

"Little sister, are you alright?" Yao Songbai turned pale with fright. Rolling down from such a high staircase was no small matter.

"I'm fine," Yao Wenyin, thinking of Hua Liuli's frail health, carefully extricated herself from her embrace, "Hua- Hua Liuli, are you okay?"

"I... I'm fine," As soon as she spoke, Hua Liuli started coughing violently. A maidservant brought a pill and fed it to her. She gradually recovered.

Seeing her like this, Yao Wenyin felt even more guilty. If Hua Liuli hadn't held onto her firmly, they could have both fallen down together. Yao Wenyin had a strong body and could recover in three to five months at most after a fall, but if Hua Liuli had fallen like that...

She stole a glance at Hua Liuli and blushed, "Thank you."

"It was just a small effort. Miss Yao doesn't need to be polite," Hua Liuli said gently with a smile.

Seeing this gentle and accommodating smile, Yao Wenyin blushed even more. Her conscience started to reproach her. Although Hua Liuli occasionally said things that were frustrating, she hadn't done anything excessive to her. Moreover, when Yao Wenyin was in danger, Hua Liuli disregarded her own safety to save her.

Furthermore, she was the one who initially provoked Hua Liuli.

Realizing this, when Yao Wenyin looked at Hua Liuli again, she felt that although she was delicate, she was also as beautiful as the moon. Despite her frustrating words, she was kind and generous.

The Crown Prince glanced at Yao Wenyin and reached out to support Hua Liuli's arm, "Liuli, watch your step."

Yao Wenyin silently took a step back. She felt that the Crown Prince's gaze toward her was a bit off.

She heard that when General Wei was young, she was not only the dream lover of many young men, but also many girls cried and made a fuss to stay by her side and be her good sisters.

How could she forget that Hua Liuli was General Wei's daughter, naturally surpassing her mother in many ways?

In this current world, not only men but women couldn't be trusted as well.
