Chapter 209

While Mary Conler was talking with her family, Demimore and Rex were meeting privately in the library of Conler Castle.

Demimore was enjoying looking at the walls, which are lined with paintings that Mary drew as a child.

Regrettably, Rex didn’t have the time or inclination to give him that luxury.

Rex poked Demimore in the back to get him back to his senses. Demimore wistfully tore his eyes away from the painting on the wall.

“It’s cute, the ones Mary painted.”

“It’s kinda sad. If Lucas and the other family members weren’t making a fuss, she would have continued to paint.”

Perhaps he forgot to look at Demimore with disapproving eyes. Rex’s face became sullen at Demimore’s brief appreciation.

Rex was also quite fond of his only sister’s free style of painting.

Due to the family’s reactions, which could only be described as ‘extraordinary,’ she reluctantly gave up drawing, but Rex secretly hoped for the day when Mary would hold a brush again.

“By the way, if you knew where my sister was, why didn’t you tell me?”

But Rex’s admiration was short-lived. Rex was pretty upset with Demimore.

Why did he go alone without telling him when he knew where Mary Conler was?

It wasn’t that he really disliked or hated Demimore, but he was disappointed that he’d gone off on his own while they were sharing a secret.

“I’m sorry, I wasn’t sure she’d be there, and I was going to bring her back as soon as I could.”

“Still, it would have been nice to have gotten a heads-up.”

“I thought if I did that, others might catch wind of it for no reason.”

Demimore, who had never had a younger brother, watched Rex talk down to him and wondered if this was what it would be like to have one.

He cleverly hid the fact that he had convinced Mary, who’d been eager to get back here, to stay an extra day.

Rex was still disappointed, but it’s not that Demimore’s words are not convincing, so he quickly got to the point.

“Oh, anyway, this is what you asked for.”

Rex handed Demimore a bunch of paper. Demimore took the bundle with an interested expression and began to lightly flip it over one by one.

But he soon grew tired of the scribbled words.

“I’ve written down the most helpful magic spells I can think of.”

“This is what Mary sees.”

Since Rex succeeded in his revenge by engraving a summoning spell on Cameron’s pajamas, Demimore’s interest in magic spells has also grown.

Something no one else could see. Also known as magic spells, they were a rarely used method that was guaranteed to work, as it took a lot of mana just to draw them.

He can’t believe Cameron used a summoning spell when he was a kid to screw Mary up. He’s glad that it was a hate-based obsession, if this attention has been diverted elsewhere…….

“No, Your Highness. How could you crumple such precious paper!”

The mere thought of Cameron pining for Mary’s affection made him uncomfortable.

He seemed to have strained his hands without realizing it, and when the paper he was holding creased, Rex stopped him. Demimore quickly apologized, sensing Rex’s mood.

It was the same as the word “extraordinary” earlier. He realized once again that this Rex was more than just what Mary thought he was.

Of course, they were the only two people in the room who knew that the reason Cameron was squirming right now was because of Rex.

“Can you really use this?”

And it was Demimore who had played the most crucial role in enabling Rex to get revenge on Cameron.

Rex had said he was going to make sure his debt was paid, so he’d been preparing himself, but all Demimore asked for was a few magic spells that he thought would help him.

This was not a big deal because his magic spells were always organized.

“Sure. I’ll go look through it some more. You’re amazing, Rex Bluea.”

Rex was flattered by Demimore’s response, which was pure admiration with no hint of sarcasm. He owed it all to his mentor, Logan Reilly.

Rex considered meeting Logan to be the second stroke of luck in his life.

Logan was proud to say that Rex was the best student he’d ever had because he could teach him anything.

Mary Conler was a headache, claiming to know things she didn’t want to learn, but Rex knew that Logan took great pride in teaching her.

“You’re the one who has to trigger the spell to activate it, are you okay with that? Engraving spells is a lot of work, you know?”

Rex, who had spent nearly three days working on engraving a spell in a pajamas, was quite worried about Demimore.

Even though he hadn’t inherited black hair and black eyes, he had inherited Conler’s great power. That’s why it only took him three days.

“Well, it’ll work out somehow.”

“Should I help you?”

“If I need help, I’ll ask you.”

In the past, he might have thrown up his hands and said he didn’t need Rex’s help.

But he knew that he and Rex had a common goal: to protect Mary Conler.

Demimore was willing to be helped by Rex, and Rex nodded, looking more relaxed at the idea of Demimore asking him for help.

“I’ll borrow this and make sure to return it.”

“You don’t have to give it back.”

Demimore and Rex shook hands and exchanged intense gazes.

It was a sight that would make Mary wonder, “How did they ever get so close?”

“Now the real…… snake hunting begins.”

Before leaving the library, Demimore stared again at Mary’s painting with a deep gaze. And he set his mind on his goal.

“Demimore Arstans!”

And as soon as he stepped outside, he met Arsene. It was as if he’d been waiting for Demimore to be alone, and as soon as he and Rex parted ways, he showed up.

Demimore, who had thought it would take a little longer for Arsene to arrive, was taken aback when he met him.

“There may be a meeting between the God of Death and Mary tonight.”

“What?”

Even though it was only a day, Demimore’s face turned pale when Arsene got straight to the point without even asking how he was doing.

He knew they would meet again someday, but he didn’t know it would be today, right away.

He hadn’t even formulated a proper plan yet… Rex’s precious paper was crumpled in Demimore’s hands again.

“I need you to help me.”

“……me?”

Arsene’s request was simple.

Go to Tahata, wait for him and Mary to show up, and if the God of Death said anything to Mary that would cause her to falter, stop her.

With that, Arsene handed Demimore a stone with a spell written on it.

“Why don’t you stop her?”

“I have a promise to the god of death.”

With the stone in his hand, as if to say, “Don’t ask any more questions,” Arsene took Demimore to Tahata.

So Demimore could hide behind a huge tree and hear their conversation. His heart was nervous, but fortunately, the god of death seemed unable to feel his presence.

The God of death’s attempts to exploit Mary’s weaknesses and subtly dig into her old wounds did not sit well with Demimore.

After all your father has sacrificed so much for you, Mary, how can you be anything but happy? Mary’s eyes fluttered and her lips seemed to twitch as she listened.

He didn’t know what kind of promise Arsene had made to him, but he listened in silence.

‘You little bastard, you too. If I kill you, it’s over, right?’

While rushing like that, Demimore didn’t feel any fear.

When he finally came face to face with the God of Death, all he felt was intense anger.

The one that had driven his mother into hiding her entire life, the one that was now tormenting Mary.

Demimore’s declaration of war made the God of Death’s face twist into a fierce grimace. Arsene quickly grabbed Demimore and Mary and led them to the teleportation he had already created.

“Demimore, why are you here?”

Once she was sure they were back to safety, Mary lunged at Demimore and grabbed his collar.

Demimore was caught off guard, and he realized that Mary was more frightening than the God of Death.

“I came at Arsene’s request.”

“Arsene?”

When she saw that Arsene nodded, she graciously let go of Demimore’s collar.

Just like when she visited that village before, Mary seems to trust Arsene’s words alone.

Demimore thought it would be better if she kept her grip on his collar.

“It’s late, so let’s go home.”

Arsene, who stopped Mary, who had a lot to say and ask, first returned Mary to Conler castle.

He refused Arsene’s offer to take him to the palace. Demimore thought he wouldn’t be able to go in casually.

“I did it last time.”

Arsene replied in a strange tone.

“Last time?”

“Oh, well… whatever.”

Shrugging off Demimore’s retort, Arsene grabbed Demimore and set off. It was much faster than the carriage, but for some reason he felt motion sickness.

Being carried around by the waist by Arsene was also not quite pleasant. Before Demimore could return to his room, Arsene spoke in a low voice.

“Thank you, Demimore.”
