Chapter 121 – Wilderness Winner (3)

As the person who guessed the destination first, Su Jishi received a huge gift that the program group had prepared. Before they officially headed out, she could enjoy living in the most luxurious five-star presidential suite along with the people accompanying her. Meanwhile, the other celebrities could only live in standard hotel rooms.

After Fang Xie brought Su Jishi to the hotel, he flew back overnight. There were a lot of affairs he still needed to handle domestically. Most importantly, he needed to pick out newbies. This was so for when Su Jin officially quit the entertainment circle, the newbie could immediately take her place and support this small company on the verge of bankruptcy. Lately, their company has been recruiting newbies, so Fang Xie needed to interview 5-6 people every day.

Therefore, the presidential suite which could originally house dozens of people was left only for Su Jishi and Xiao Xia in the end.

Originally, Su Jishi didn’t even want to bring Xiao Xia. After all, she didn’t understand why she needed to bring her assistant along when she was trying to survive the wilderness.

“Sister Su, I’m very useful!” Xiao Xia hurriedly expressed her loyalty. “I know how to make a fire, cook, set up a tent, wash clothes, and carry the things you are unable to carry. Don’t worry. I’ll be behind the producer and make sure I don’t photobomb! Plus, the program group secretly allowed this. Don’t you see how the other celebrities have at least two male assistants carrying their things for them?”

“…” Su Jishi felt a headache rising. “How is this surviving the wilderness with celebrities? It’s more like surviving the wilderness with assistants.”

Xiao Xia was about to say something when her phone suddenly rang.

She looked down to see A-Shan’s message. He was staying within the country to handle the internal affairs.

Xiao Xia read the message. “Sister Su, A-Shan said he sneezed and wanted to know if you were cursing him.”

Su Jishi was speechless.

She grabbed the phone and pressed on the audio button. She said, “Right, your Sister Su, I cursed again.”

After she sent that message, Su Jishi efficiently blacklisted A-Shan.

Xiao Xia didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “…Sister Su, this is my WeChat.”

Upon the ‘kindly’ reminder, Su Jishi took out her phone to blacklist A-Shan.

They’d communicate with one another through messengers in the future.

A-Shan: Chirp.

……

After a good night’s rest, all of the celebrities gathered at the airport the next day. They would be transferring flights to Sulawesi Island.

Like what Xiao Xia said, the other celebrities brought many assistants. Plus, with the photography teams that the program group assigned, each celebrity had a group of people behind them. It was a neater and tidier line than when children went on a spring outing together.

Five celebrities were participating in this show. When choosing the candidates, the showrunners “popularity, strength, past-prime, comedian, and athlete.” Each candidate had a clear distinction and none of the personas repeated.

While on the plane, Su Jishi quickly got to know everyone.

She was an out-and-out popular celebrity.

In terms of strength, the program group had invited a thirty-five-year-old senior, Yan Changhui, who was quite experienced in this field.

The ‘past-prime’ celebrity was Chen Gangyu. She debuted with her band, but before she became popular, it disbanded.

The celebrity with the comic streak knew how to warm up the atmosphere, playing the part of an all-round supporting character. In terms of mainland terminology, they were the supporting cast.

As for the last celebrity, athletic star Qin Qiu was a bit special. He was an Olympic winner and at an age of sixteen was the national runner-up for the clay pigeon shooting contest for the youth’s team. But when he was seventeen he had injured himself bringing his stellar career in sports to an end. He then debuted again through a talent show. Now, he was a budding celebrity. Of the five people here, in terms of the number of fans, Su Jin was obviously first and Qin Qiu second.

As for the two wilderness instructors, they used their code names from operations. One was Instructor Hai and the other, Instructor Jiang.

Soon, the plane landed on the island of Sulawesi. Everybody got on the bus to their destination.

Who knew that the moment they got on the bus, Instructor Hai would take out a small basket and requested for everyone to turn in their communication devices. Not only did the celebrities participating in the filming needed to hand it over, but also the assistants following them.

Everyone looked at each other and in the end, it was Su Jishi who handed in her phone, iPad, smartwatch, and then had Xiao Xia hand in the other devices.

After her, Qin Qiu followed suit and handed in all his devices.

Since the two most popular celebrities had cooperated, the other three naturally couldn’t reject this request. They quickly handed in their devices as well.

In this deep forest, even if they’d kept their devices, it couldn’t receive any signals. The program group had prepared GPS and other wireless devices in advance. They passed them over and then taught the celebrities how to use them.

Besides this, each group also received a device that looked like a “brick phone.” Xiao Xia had never seen this before, so she stared at it curiously.

“This is a satellite phone.” Su Jishi explained. “It doesn’t need the internet to get a signal, but it relies on the satellite instead. As long as you’re on Earth, you won’t lose the signal.”

Xiao Xia started kissing up. “Sister Su, you know a lot.” She glanced at the satellite phone and eagerly said, “I wonder if it will come in handy.”

The planner of the group immediately looked at her in alarm. They covered the “brick phone” and hurriedly said, “Teacher, please don’t jinx it. It’s best if we never need to use this.”

When the groups were done packing up, the bus slowly strode out of the city, driving towards the mountainous region.

There was still a huge gap between Southeast Asia’s cities’ basic infrastructure and China’s. Quickly, the smooth roads paved the way for the country-side roads. Later on, even that disappeared and the roads became outright bumpy.

The center of Sulawesi Island comprised hills of varying heights, dense forests, and few people. The surrounding of the island contained considerately developed cities, but very few roads were connected. It was mostly a waterway. As a result, the center of the island contained a forest that had not undergone development. When the bus drove past it, it startled countless birds.

Suddenly, the bus jolted forward, unsure what it had bumped into, it came to a shrieking stop.

The passengers all looked at each other before the staff rushed out of the bus with the driver to check. The checkup took a whole twenty minutes. The group gathered at the end of the bus and pointed at the engine only to see smoke rolling into the sky. It didn’t look good.

The celebrities and assistants leaned against the windows watching them bustling around. They chatted quietly and it was unclear what gossip they were sharing.

The only two that didn’t move from their seats were Su Jishi and Qin Qiu who sat behind her.

Don’t mention how experienced Qin Qiu was, but he was still very young. He had turned twenty not too long ago.

Seeing that Su Jishi didn’t move, he curiously asked, “Teacher Su, how come you didn’t join in on the show?”

When Su Jishi heard a voice, she lazily opened her eyes to peer at him. “I don’t know how to fix a bus. Why should I go join in on the show?”

In truth, Su Jishi knew how to. After all, when she went out alone, she needed to resolve any truck issues by herself. Although she knew how to, “Su Jin” didn’t know how to. Therefore, she stayed here and closed her eyes to rest.

She finished and originally wanted to keep resting when she noticed Qin Qiu staring at her, wanting attention like a puppy.

Su Jishi thought about it and guessed that the child wanted her to ask him the same question. “How about you? Why didn’t you go down?”

The teen idol smiled happily as expected and said in a well-behaved tone, “Because I want to chat with Teacher Su.”

Su Jishi replied. “… Thank you, but I don’t like promoting my name.”

“No, no, no. Teacher Su, you’ve mistaken.” Qin Qiu hurriedly said, “I’m actually your fan. Since I entered the entertainment industry, I’ve been wanting to collaborate with you. Who knew that I would have a chance to encounter you in 《Wildlife Winner》! I grew up watching your dramas!”

Su Jishi was speechless.

Calculating the time, Su Jin had debuted for three years, and Qin Qiu was twenty right now. If he started becoming her fan at the age of seventeen, then he reluctantly… could be considered as ‘growing up watching Su Jin’s dramas’.

Afraid she wouldn’t believe him, Qin Qiu started listing her works. After he finished, he looked at her with sparkling eyes and waited for him to compliment her.

Facing her fan’s eager gaze, Su Jishi could only politely nod in response. In fact, she hadn’t even watched all the works that he had listed. If Qin Qiu wanted to pester her and talk about the plots, she’d be exposed!

When Xiao Xia returned from watching the show, she saw Qin Qiu and Su Jishi “chatting happily”. The guy was handsome and smiling splendidly, his eyes shining like stars- it was a heartwarming scene.

The radar in Xiao Xia’s mind immediately activated. She hurriedly pulled Su Jishi to the side and reminded her in a low voice. “Sister Su, Sister, Su, that Qin Qiu is looking at you strangely. He’s way younger than you. Is he planning on becoming a couple with you?!”
