Chapter 101

“I warned you before, Lehman Karr.”

The moment Reina heard Ethan’s murderous tone, she looked up at him in surprise.

‘Ah… What do I do.’

She just wanted Lehman to get a taste of his own medicine, but…

“I told you to watch yourself, did I not? It was neither just advice, nor was it a mere request.”

She didn’t know this would be so exciting! It’s definitely more thrilling than she had ever imagined.

She’s taking back her small sense of remorse back there.

With her conscience gone, she decided to sit back and enjoy the sweet taste of catharsis in earnest.

“Hicc… Lehman, do you… Do you really hate me that much…?”

As these words were directed at him, Lehman was evidently incredulous. His eyes went wide and he scoffed—on the brink of laughing.

‘Why, punk. Is it so absurd that you’re being attacked with your own weapon?’

“Right now… Are you saying that I pushed you? Reina, I know that you dislike me, but… Are you seriously framing me now?”

As expected, Lehman wasn’t going down without a fight. Even so, Reina was even more formidable than him.

Just how much had he done to her before this, huh?

“This time… This time again, you’re gaslighting me as if everything I say is a lie.”

As though she had given up on it all, Reina let out a helpless laugh.

And even if she could use her uninjured left hand perfectly fine, she reached up to touch her forehead with her right hand, which was trickling with streams of blood because of the roses’ thorns.

“Even in the laboratory… I just told the truth and said that you gave me the instructions to put the red solution, but you insisted that I was lying… And I kept trying to say that I didn’t lock you in that warehouse, but you led everyone to believe I was lying… Then you set the mood to make those people think that I poisoned your plants… Why… Just why…”

Reina squeezed her eyes shut for a moment, pursing her red lips as though she was all choked up by the waves of emotions that were crashing into her. To add, she took a few deep breaths to make it seem like she was trying to keep calm.

On the other hand, Lehman—her co-actor in this farce—looked to be genuinely flustered now.

Truthfully, however, he was flustered not because of the act Reina was putting up, but because of the following words.

“To be honest, now that it’s come to this, I gotta say… Lehman has kinda been hung up on Reina all this time.”

“I felt it too… I guess I’m not the only one who thought that.”

“Huh? Me too! Even when Reina wasn’t doing anything.”

“Yeah… She didn’t do anything until now, but she kept getting pitifully criticized.”

“Anyway, what’s with that thing about the lab?”

These people who reacted to Reina’s words anxiously cast their eyes onto Lehman and Reina.

“Is that about the thing where Reina ruined your group’s results back then? You said it was all Reina’s fault.”

“Ah… Yeah. That’s what I thought, but…”

The one who mumbled just now was one of Reina’s groupmates in that alchemy class that time.

Next to that groupmate, another academy student who took the same class as them answered back while shrugging.

“So Lehman was the one who told her to do it?”

“Ah, but… Lehman would absolutely never do that kind of thing, so—”

“What? Then you just didn’t listen properly to Reina and just cornered her?”

“No, uh, it’s just Reina’s so careless and—”

“Careless? Reina’s a special case, but she’s not at all careless. Even if she can’t understand simple things, she does things step by step meticulously as she’s instructed.”

‘Uh… Wow, thanks.’

For that person to say that she couldn’t understand… Couldn’t she just be described as meticulous instead of slow?

Her forte was in the sciences, not magic, so she tended to carefully check each and every step of the way because she didn’t want to make any mistakes.

“Richard’s right, and I can vouch for that because I took a basic magic class with Reina last year. Ah, right. I heard you guys left out Reina. You didn’t let her participate in the experiment.”

“No… It’s not that we left her out… It’s just, she was bothering Lehman so much, that’s why.”

“Who’s bothering who here? That was you guys. Haa… What a headache.”

“Yeah, man. You guys should just stop it now. I’m not exactly siding with Reina, but… You guys were too much.”

The original story must really be broken now. Reina had been trying so hard to explain herself all this time while nobody listened to her, but everything was suddenly coming to light like this now.

Making sure that her voice would sound weak enough, Reina opened her eyes, looked straight at Lehman and uttered the truth.

“Right. This time, let’s just say that you didn’t push me… I just… I just got flung back all by myself.”

It’s so fun to see how all the people around her didn’t take her words at face value.

“Lehman.”

Paul was the first to speak up.

It was kind of ridiculous and childish to see that there were four men guarding one woman behind them just so they could criticize the opponent in front of her. But honestly? Reina allowed herself to sit back and enjoy the show. After all, she had endured the same situation against dozens of other people, not just four.

“Why do you keep crossing the line, hm?”

Paul, who had treated Reina while holding up his palm to her, tilted his head to the side as he stared at Lehman.

“…There seems to be a misunderstanding, but right now, Reina is lying—”

“Uh-huh. I know, I know. Reina is lying, and you’re the poor victim here. You’re always so good at weaving that kind of story, aren’t you?”

Was Reina the only one who heard a narrator’s voice and subsequent bell going, ‘And so, the main character failed to control his expression. Ding—’

‘Ha… This is so fun!’

Reina might really be an evil person because of all the satisfaction she’s getting out of this, but what was she to do? This electrifying sensation felt so nice.

“You keep being so unpleasant.”

It was Eli who came forward after Paul.

‘Wait a sec. What’s with that blue sword? Did you become a swordmaster?’

Reina very much wanted to ask, but she held it in because now wasn’t the time for that.

“I’m quite certain that I’ve warned you enough before.”

Each time Eli took a step forward, his silver hair—which looked almost completely white—fluttered in the rising wind.

Right in front of Lehman now, Eli spoke in a scathing voice that was just as harsh as Ethan’s.

“You didn’t seem to have heeded my words, Lehman Karr.”

“……”

Eli showed him an angel-like but sinister smile. Lehman froze.

‘Then, the last batter must be stepping up to the plate next…’

Just in time, Letis swept his hair up with an extremely annoyed expression as if to live up to Reina’s expectations.

“Huu… Lehman.”

He sauntered towards Lehman as well, one hand pressed against his temple while letting out a low sigh.

“You’re clearly not a halfwit, but why do you keep doing this? You’re smart enough to know that it’s enough to use the same tactic only once or twice.”

As Letis tilted his head to the side, he looked quite intimidating. Besides that, tensions rose even more because Letis was the kind of person who always maintained a smooth relationship with everyone, but now he was like this.

“I didn’t particularly hate you, but I’m getting tired of you now.”

At this, Lehman’s pallor became deathly pale to the point that he looked blue.

And this was the signal for Reina to step in.
