Chapter 5.5 Part 2
Only Twice, But Still Twice – Theodore’s POV (II)

I locked eyes with His Highness Leodore. He was serious. He was serious about getting his hands on Urschel. He was going to crush any obstacle and any opponents blocking his way. I had no idea why he would do that.

Nevertheless.

It was at this moment, however, that I felt a burning rage for the first time—’I can’t let this man have Urschel!’.

It was instinct; I felt it in my gut. If I gave Urschel to His Highness Leodore, I would never see him again…!

I was about to step toward His Highness Leodore, when–

“…!?”

Suddenly, some type of communication magic was transmitted into my head.

“…Huh?”

The message came so suddenly that my outbursting rage dispersed at once. His Highness Leodore squinted his eyes as he looked at me quizzically, but I was so shaken that I could not afford to care about him anymore.

…The communication signal that reached me was filled with a sense of urgency. At the same time, I could feel strong helplessness within it.

[REQUESTInG 4 HeLp! GOt PullEd APaRT fr My sWEETs, aBduCTEd naW! After 30 MIN, pOSSIBIlIty FOr socIEtAL dEAtH, hIGH! come quICklY! thE tarTS wiLL MEltttT!!]

There were many things I wanted to retort, but I’d just leave that for later. Promptly, I casted scanning magic around the vicinity. In front of me, his Highness Leodore was puzzled by my actions, but I feigned ignorance. Urschel’s societal death and tarts were apparently in crisis after all.

If I think about it again now, it felt like I didn’t even need to go save the sweets… But, when I imagined Urschel collapsing on his knees in front of the melted tarts, heartbroken, I had to save them at all cost. And, honestly, I was very worried about what might happen to Urschel if I left him alone.

I soon found out about Urschel’s location by using magic to scan the area. I sensed Urschel’s presence in one of the rooms to the west of this venue. He was alone in the room with someone I didn’t know. There were four or five people, maybe guards, standing by in front of the room watching out the surroundings.

…To my horror, it seemed that Urschel was stuck to the chair and restrained by dark magic.

I had to go quickly. There was no time to waste.

“Your Highness Leodore. I understand your feelings… I have some urgent business to attend to, however, so I will take my leave now.”

“Urgent business? I still have a lot to tell you, though?”

“I’m sorry, but I have to go quickly; I’ve been called away by Urschel.”

The Prince’s attention was momentarily diverted from me to Urschel when I said that I was being summoned by the latter; in the meantime, I casted teleportation magic and promptly rushed to Urschel’s side. The Duke would probably be angry with me later for not being polite enough to His Highness; but, he was the enemy who was trying to steal Urschel, and I personally would rather not be polite. Besides, I had more important things to address at this moment.

‘Urschel!’

Judging from the situation, it couldn’t be anything good. I had no idea what had happened, but Urschel was locked in the room, under restraints. Though to be honest, I couldn’t see what he meant by societal death at all.

When I suddenly appeared by teleportation magic, the chamberlains and guards panicked. I ignored them and kicked the door open.

There, holding his head in complete distress, Urschel…nope, that was another male around his age; meanwhile, Urschel looked at me with twinkles in his eyes, looking totally out of place with this atmosphere.

‘…?’

This was not what I had mentally pictured.

In the room, the other man emanated a sheer sense of weariness; yet, Urschel, who was supposed to be worn out from being restrained, was hale and hearty…

I was totally lost.

“Theodore! Undo this restraint!”

“I-I got it…”

As told, I undid the dark magic that was cast on Urschel. Urschel sprang up and stretched his body; he maintained his usual self-paced, carefree demeanour. Then, Urschel grabbed my hand and stuck his tongue out to that unfamiliar man.

“Then, see you! It’s enough that only Your Highness got caught in a scandal~”

That man who was called ‘Your Highness’ by Urschel—probably one of the royal princes—heaved a sigh.

“…I have so damn much to say, but it’s okay for now. This is still within my expectations. The disgrace would fall on me, but that is nothing much… Haaa~ Just get the hell out of here.”

Urschel retracted his outstretched tongue, tugged my arm, and walked out of the room. The chamberlains and guards outside the room let us pass easily, leaving me alone in confusion. Eventually, when the prince’s attendants were out of sight and we reached an empty area, Urschel let go of my arm. He hugged his chest and let out a sigh of relief.

“Phew, I was saved… Theodore, if you weren’t there, I would be socially ruined. I genuinely thank you, Theodore! Theodore’s the best!!”

“What just happened?”

“…Hm? I don’t know where to begin my explanation. The one in the room just now, he’s Prince Carlos, younger brother to Prince Leodore… I fell for his trap momentarily and found myself in a fix; I was nearly involved in a disgraceful scandal there… And then a lot happened… I can’t exactly say it here since we don’t know who might be listening…” Urschel told me, finding it difficult to reveal the whole situation.

“Theodore. Actually, I… I’ll fill in the details with you later, but I’ve become Prince Carlos’s prospective fiancé…”

Prospective…fiancé…?

As soon as I heard those words, I was shocked for the second time today. The fact that the love of His Royal Highness Leodore’s life had become a prospective fiancée for his younger brother did not cause shock. Rather, I was terribly shocked to find out that Urschel was about to become someone else’s without my knowledge.

Until then, I had subconsciously held onto a belief

That the days we had would continue on forever.

That Urschel would always be by my side.

I had been so self-conceited, although it had been a mere coincidence that we had met–and the life we led until then was just a continuation of a miracle.

Urschel tilted his head with wonder as I was struck dumb. The shocks I received made me terribly irritated, but, at the same time, I felt almost resigned. Of course. Urschel wouldn’t possibly understand these feelings.

They had been only twice, but still twice.

In a span of a very short time, I…

…I became aware of my own intense obsession towards Urschel, which by all accounts was more than just familial love.

chocolala: In the end, the tarts couldn’t be saved I guess, lol. But there’s a thing that bothered me: did Urschel’s communication magic have some delay? like he sent them when the chamberlain dragged him away, but Theodore only got it after he got the drink and already talking to Prince Leodore and from Urshel’s word, Theodore arrived nearly half an hour after he got trapped in the room with Prince Carlos. Well, just some trivial details, nothing important to the story
