Ch157 - Why Did It Matter

Simultaneously, the list of sinners, who were announced by the angel, was also reaching its end.

“It’s finally over. Not just this instance. Rather, it’s all finally over…”

Trainees who had eliminated their black lines of sin stood in place, each showing excited and emotional expressions.

Finishing the execution and ascension to heaven symbolized the end of the main task.

After finishing the main task, they could freely choose to return to the trainee dormitories or stay in this S-rank dorm.

Of course, these trainees who had painstakingly eliminated their sins had already made their decision. Since they aimed their guns at familiar faces with tears streaming down their face, this road to glory had already been paved.

“The Judgement List has been recited.”

Flapping its wings, the angel floating in the sky put away the clay tablet in his hands and spoke coldly.

[Ah… It’s about to end?]

In the broadcasting room, the viewers sent out messages one after another.

[It should be coming to an end by now, right? This instance has a set time of seven days. The Labyrinth of Death broadcasting room is also facing its final challenge. It’s a bit brutal and hard to look at. I was too scared to continue watching, so I quickly switched over to here.]

[That’s right. Many instances make people feel physically uncomfortable. Then compare it to the instance Judgement Day. At least, it looks the most beautiful on the outside, and there aren’t any disgusting zombies or monsters. Plus, there’s a beauty like the Magician that’s a blessing to the eyes. (Jk)]

[Wait, speaking of which, are the people who are nailed to the floor in this Judgement Day instance going to die for sure? Even if we ignore all else, Anthony is still nailed on the floor… No matter what, he’s a high A-rank and the second in command of the Night Clan. If he just dies like this, that feels too surreal.]

Indeed.

When the trainees looked at Anthony, who was nailed to the floor by a silver cross and was suffering burns all over his body due to the holy light, they felt their emotions well up.

Having the bloodline of a half-vampire was a huge advantage. It could almost raise physical fitness in all aspects. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been the basis of the rank 1 organization in the infinite loop.

It was well known that vampires were creatures of darkness. In supernatural type instances, they had a huge advantage. However, if they happened to enter a religious type instance, their advantage would turn into their biggest disadvantage. They wouldn’t be able to use most of their strength. Things that could counter them were everywhere in the instance. Even a random cross or some holy water could produce huge effects. Additionally, this was an S-rank religion-type instance.

If he truly perished here, it could only be said that Anthony’s luck was too horrible.

Full of emotions, everyone shook their heads.

[Speaking of which, did you guys see that guy called Xu Su? As expected, as long as they didn’t stand on the side of completing the second main task, they are now all nailed onto the ground. In my opinion, those people are too stubborn and narrow-minded. They aren’t moved even when such favorable conditions are placed in front of them.]

[I saw him. I saw him. Sigh, I guess everyone has their own aspirations. Their emotions were suppressed by the system in this instance. Let’s not sit on our high horses and comment on them as if we know it all. We are all people eliminated from the Thriller Trainee Competition. Forget about the S-rank instance we are watching now. I bet you guys probably won’t even survive the first round’s one-man show. /picking nose.jpg]

Tn: They originally used a metaphor here that translates literally into. “Let’s not say our waists don’t hurt while standing here.” It basically means to not judge people or comment on what you would do in their shoes when you aren’t in their situation. It’s like people commenting on the internet, “Oh, if I was her/him, I wouldn’t just stand there and take the bullying, I would’ve fought back,”

While the bullet chat was chatting away, a change suddenly occurred.

After the angel finished reciting the list of names, obvious changes appeared in the sky and earth.

The Scale of Sin in the Judgment Court suddenly returned to its original balanced state. Behind the angels, a faint, illusory door began to appear, its edges plated in a holy white-gold light.

In contrast, the earth was the opposite.

This kind of tremor wasn’t inferior to any major earthquake. Fear and surprise appeared in the eyes of the sinners who were nailed to the ground by crosses.

Before falling to hell, they had to endure the burning of magma and suffer through endless torture.

It would be one thing if the trainees who didn’t complete the task were directly killed. However, the main task was to experience judgment once. It was highly likely that that meant the trainees who were falling into hell wouldn’t immediately die. Instead, they had to atone for their sins.

The Divine Comedy documented the nine layers of hell. Every layer’s torture was inhumane. No human could survive under such torment. It would be better to give them a quick death.

In contrast to those people, those who had eliminated their sin stood on the earth as if it was solid ground, their bodies emitting a hazy white light.

No matter how much the ground under their feet cracked and split apart, it couldn’t swallow those who were sinless and blessed.

Amid the sky collapsing and the earth cracking, a slender figure suddenly sped up, rushing straight toward the largest crack.

With smoke spreading around him, the young man’s white hair floated in the air. His calves were tense, and the hem of his shirt was bundled up outside his trousers, outlining the Magician’s amazing figure without any excess fat.

[F**k, what is the Magician trying to do? Why did he suddenly start running?]

[Omg, he runs so fast. The speed at which his long legs move is simply insane.]

[Sisters, wait. Don’t be in a rush to stare at beauty. Look at the direction he’s running in. Is it trying to rescue the trainees who were declared sinful?]

This guess wasn’t completely improbable. After all, Zong Jiu was clearly rushing straight toward the cracks.

An angel floating in mid-air coldly said, “Please immediately halt your actions, else you will be branded with the sin of being an accomplice to the sinners.”

Unsurprisingly, as the young man rolled up his sleeve, a faint black line flickered, about to take shape.

Zong Jiu remained silent, turning a deaf ear to the warning. His expression was cold and hard as he continued to run in the wind.

Seeing his actions, the angel no longer attempted to pursue him. However, a second later, the angel found out that the Scale of Good and Evil was unable to judge the sin of this person attempting to interfere with the Judgement.

How was that possible? The scale controlled all living beings. No living beings were able to escape from its sanctions unless it was a being born from a higher world.

The situation was urgent. The angel had no time to consider anything else. He ordered the angel legion behind him.

“The Lord has already proclaimed that those who attempt to halt the Judgement are to be killed directly.”

A moment later, tens of thousands of light beams descended from the sky, creating a giant net like the intertwining lines of a chessboard.

With a turn of the white-haired young man’s foot, he constantly moved and stopped in the cage made of light as if he were performing a magic trick. Each light beam narrowly brushed past him.

Fortunately, he maxed out his vision. He only had to raise his head and take a glance to determine the trajectory of the light bullets with his dynamic vision and dodge in advance.

It was also thanks to the fact that Zong Jiu had used the survival points saved from two instances to comprehensively enhance his physical fitness for the sake of facing No. 1 head-on. Otherwise, with such a dense barrage, he wouldn’t be able to evade with such ease.

After all the dust had settled, the Magician casually walked out from behind the smoke.

The trainees nailed to the ground all had teary eyes, especially Xu Su. He was sobbing out loud. He quickly grabbed onto him and wiggled upward.

“That’s all you guys are capable of?”

Zong Jiu raised his chin and sneered, proactively looking towards the Judgement Court in the sky.

“You——”

The angel, angry and embarrassed, could no longer maintain a cold and indifferent appearance. He drew his light sword, flapped his wings, and rushed down like a streak of light.

Seeing the angel flying directly over, Zong Jiu wasn’t the slightest bit afraid.

He tightly held onto the enhanced playing card with one hand and a silver-white crowbar in the other. He met the other’s light sword head-on.

“Clang——”

The instant the light sword and the Holy Sword of physics touched, a bit of the former’s light was absorbed.

The angel looked at the crowbar in his hand in disbelief. Flapping the wings on his back, he staggered backward toward the sky.

Zong Jiu whistled. Obviously, even he hadn’t expected the S-rank Artifact the Holy Sword of Physics to be so useful. He weighed it in his hand a few times and then twirled it. Then he ruthlessly exerted his calf muscles and jumped into the air.

Everyone watched with their mouth agape and eyes wide open as he and the angel fought back and forth. He even seemed to have the upper hand.

[Ah, what is happening? /Frozen.jpg]

[F**k me… Too strong. He’s facing the angel directly. What even is this? If I say that the Magician’s physical fitness has reached S-rank, no one disagrees, right?]

[Sure enough, thanks to Las Vegas’s last gamble, one million chips, it’s where dreams started.]

[Ahhhhhhhhh!! The Magician is so handsome!! Mom loves it a lot! He’s too strong! I’m going to screenshot right now and post it to the forum.]

Tn: Just in case, when commenters refer to themselves as a mom, wife, husband, dad, etc, they generally don’t mean it. It’s more of a half-joking thing said to idols/entertainers. With more cute and youthful idols/entertainers especially, a lot of women like to refer to themselves as their mom, making comments like “Mom doesn’t allow you to date young. Or mom is worried for your health.”

“The time of Judgement has arrived. No need to waste time anymore, Angelus.”

As they were fighting, another angel flapped its wings and decided from a crack in the sky.

Unsurprisingly, as soon as it finished speaking, the angel named Angelus resentfully glared at him and then returned to the sky like a stream of light.

All the angles orderly floated before the Judgement court and coldly announced.

“The Judgment begins.”

The white light on Zong Jiu’s body instantly disappeared. That change almost made him lose his balance and fall into a crack in the ground.

The angels couldn’t judge his sin. At most, they could only remove his protection. Once the earth had been completely engulfed by magma, those without protection would fall into hell.

Clusters of burning red flames gathered in the cracks in the sky with sulfur wrapped up inside. The cloudless sky suddenly produced thunder and lightning, tearing everything apart and striking the ground.

In the depths of the magma, ghosts brandished their claws and bared their fangs. They excitedly waited for the sinners to fall into hell and enjoy despair and the pain of darkness together.

The cracks on the sources of the earth become bigger and bigger, quickly becoming so large that even contenders who enhanced themselves couldn’t cross them.

Zong Jiu kept a close watch on that small figure.

Half of his body had already slipped into a crack. His delicate face was covered in dirt and dust, his eyes tightly closed, trembling uncontrollably in the midst of the fire and thunder.

He didn’t know why, but Zong Jiu remembered that lonely little boy laying on the altar.

Everyone was rejoicing and dancing because of the glory of God. No one noticed the light of hope in the six-year-old sacrifice’s eyes gradually starting to fade.

Zong Jiu believed that he must have gone crazy in order for him to be willing to traverse through smoke and flames, even fight an angel, and give up his own main task to save that annoying rival .

But… Why did the Magician have to find a reason?

Why did it matter? If he wanted to do it, then he would just do it.

The white-haired young man snorted and then suddenly lowered his upper body. He did a run-up and then abruptly jumped high up. He soared over a crack that would have led to him falling directly into magma if the slightest mistake was made.

At the last second, where the flames, sulfur, and cracked earth met——

He squatted down and grabbed onto that little hand.

“At the critical moment, the little Devil’s body hung over the crack, his feet dangling in the air. Deep blow, boiling manga flowed and bubbled. The extreme heat twisted and distorted the air, as the hot air rushed towards him.

The little Devil abruptly opened his eyes.

Those black-brown eyes looked at the beautiful young man in a sorry state with blood stains all over. His body was covered in dust and dirt, and his dry lips had started to crack. Those eyes were filled with complex and intense emotions that couldn’t be resolved.

“ Hang on. I’ll pull you up.”

Zong Jiu quietly said. Feeling the ground beneath him begin to crack as well, he thought to himself. Not good.

He had to hurry. Otherwise…

Regardless, a second later, the young man turned his head around in shock.

Pain came from his palm.

The little devil stared straight at him, his eyes full of stubbornness.

“I don’t need your help.”

Saying such, he loosened his fingers, let go of the Magician’s hand, and fell into the bottomless abyss below.

In no time, that small figure was swallowed by the boiling magma and disappeared without a trace.
