Closing off the game, the both of them went their own ways to freshen up. Yao Yuan occupied her parent’s room to sleep. Since she cleaned the room regularly, it was still in good condition, thus she only needed to make the bed before sleeping.

Naturally, Yao Yuan’s room was given to Jiang An Lan to rest. The room was not big, only consisted of a bed and a desk. Near the window, a small light-yellow sofa was placed near the bookshelvesJiang An Lan stood up and walked over. He flipped through the books she had read, such as <A New Account of the Tales of the World>, <Weeds>>, < Zūn Shēng Bā Jiān>, <Hundred Years of Loneliness>, <The Early Summer Lotus Period Romance>.  Jiang An Lan then picked up the picture frame on the top of the bookshelves, which was inlaid with an old picture of some years back, it was of a family of three. The father was holding his seven or eight year old daughter while the mother was standing beside her and kissing her daughter’s cheek. they looked really happy as in a state of peace and fulfilment.

He thought the first time he had met her was in his fourth-year of university when he had gotten into that unfortunate incident. However, that was not the case.

On the night when he had left Beijing for Jiang Ning, Jiang An Cheng gave him a call. “I’ve sent something to your mailbox. Grandpa asked me to investigate, but I think it’s necessary for you to have a look first.”

He had not been surprised by his grandfather’s action on investigating the younger generation’s partner. What had actually surprised him was the content of the email itself.

At the very top of the information was reporting about an accident that had occurred 17 years ago in which a couple was killed.  The man and woman pair’s names were Yao Guo Hua and Cai Fen, respectively. He had no idea about those two people, but when he saw that the couple had died in the accident caused by his uncle, Jiang Wen Han, more than ten years ago, and upon seeing the picture of Yao Guo Hua’s daughter, cold sweat drenched the palm of his hand.

That year, he had only been 11 years old receiving treatment in Jiang Ning. During that time, his grandparents mostly stayed with him in Jiang Ning City, even other elders occasionally visited him. At that time, his uncle was still a new official and he had been visiting Jiang Ning. Their family had a wide network of people in Jiang Ning, so most of the children had gone to Jiang Ning to gain some experience. As a result, it had not taken long for his uncle to meet with a mishap. His grandfather had always been a stubborn man who was fond of reputation. He strongly believed that to starve to death is but a small matter, yet to be disloyal is a big matter.

Consequently, uncle had served his sentence in prison.  Later on, he left the country upon his release.

Jiang An Lan could not believe what he just read. Once again, he read the documents meticulously.

How could there be such a coincidence in the world. At the moment, all we could do was to lament that the Will of Heaven really messes with people, affairs of life were too difficult to predict.

He vaguely remembered that on the day of the accident, his father had also gone to Jiang Ning City. At first, he had not known that his uncle had hit someone, and the victims  had also been sent to the same hospital where he was located. Later, he had unintentionally overheard the nurse mentioning the matter. Because of curiosity, he had secretly run out to take a look and found that outside the ward, his uncle and father were all there. Many people had been crying, and among them, there was a little girl who was being pulled off by someone as to release her hold from the body that was being carried away by the nurse. Back then, he had also heard someone in the corridor lamenting, “Truly pitiful, ah! Both are dead.”

Jiang An Cheng on the other end of the phone said: “It’s almost new year’s day. I’m afraid uncle will return to China in the next two days.”

“I got it.” Jiang An Lan hung up the phone. He thought this situation was really terrible.

God loved to make fun of people. His uncle had hurt her parents, but he was saved by her. He fell in love with her, and now gradually got to her heart, unfortunately at such an urgent and important moment,  an incident happened unexpectedly.

At present, Jiang An Lan kept his gaze glued towards the old photograph in his hand and sighed, “If you knew, what would you do to me?”

The following morning, Yao Yuan heard the doorbell ring as soon as she got up. She was feeling skeptical. Who had come to visit so early?

Putting on her coat, she went to answer the door. What she found outside the door greatly surprised her, “Chen Dongyang?”

Chen Dongyang smiled and said, “I happened to be nearby. I recalled that your home is in this neighbourhood , I asked around and decided to come over.”

“Hiccup, is that so?” Yao Yuan’s words were spoken too casually that let the other party cough awkwardly. “Won’t  you invite me in?”

In fact, Yao Yuan always thought that she and Chen Dongyang were merely simple acquaintances, but it seemed not to be case for the one standing at the door, “Please come in, cough cough!” She suffered a real cough.

“You have a cold?”

Yao Yuan, made an “en” sound.

Chen Dongyang followed her into the room and looked around the warm decoration and arrangement. Finally, his eyes returned to Yao Yuan. Seeing that she was going to the kitchen to fetch him  drink, he said: “I don’t need to drink anything. Don’t trouble yourself. Yao Yuan, I just came to see you, that’s all.”

It was a little straightforward, at least more than the opening line above. Of course, compared with the fellow student’s phrase last time, “If you don’t have a boyfriend, what do you think of me?” Yao Yuan’s nature was more reserved and  passive in the matter of feelings, so she had always treated everyone kindly yet at arm’s length hence there were not many deep friendships. Naturally, her attitude towards Chen Dongyang from the beginning until now, had not been impolite, however never let others to harbour any ideas. Yao Yuan could not help but think of Jiang An Lan, the only person she was giving a special treatment to. That was also because that certain someone had been too “active” passing like thunder and moving like the wind[1] in courting her, married her in online games, meeting her in real life, and even falling in love … Before she had cleared her train of thought, her heart had already begun to move.

Why is it him? Yao Yuan had been pondering this question for a long time, but still could not find the reasonable explanation. She simply assumed that she had been very happy since she interacted with him.

As for Chen Dongyang, as a matter of fact, Yao Yuan was puzzled. When they had been in college, they did not communicate much. They only met again two years later. How could he suddenly become interested in her? Before she could speak, Chen Dongyang said, “Yao Yuan, you told me that you were married last time, but your college friend Li Xiao Yue said that he didn’t know about you being married. Was it because I mentioned that I wanted to pursue you, but you thought it was very sudden, so you made an excuse by saying…”

Right at that exact moment, the door towards Yao Yuan’s room was opened, and a man came out yawning and asked, “Xiao Yuan, having slept that late and yet still woke up this early, it’s not even enough for people to have a good dream.”

Yao Yuan: “…”

Chen cannon fodder: “…”

Chen Dongyang finally went away with an embarrassed face.

Looking at the person in front of her who was only wearing trousers and bare-chested, even his hair was in disarray coupled with a pair of clear eyes, Yao Yuan asked, “Aren’t you cold?”

The handsome long-legged Jiang An Lan pursed up his mouth and turned back into the room.

Yao Yuan was speechless. Did the Great God just now show up deliberately, right?
