The gates of heaven were heavily packed with people. Thousands after thousands flowed into the celestial palace. Gods, goddesses, fairies, beasts, mystical creatures that roamed the sky rushed back and forth, feeling anxious.

At the same time, a loud yelling could be heard. "YUAN JI!!!!"

That screeching made most of people gathered there reflexively wiped beads of sweat on their foreheads. It wasn't the first time that sort of thing happened. Heck, it was nearly a daily thing already.

"Here~~" laughed the troublemaker as he leaped once more from the roof.

"Come here at once!" Shouted the young man chasing behind him, one arm extended in a failed attempt to catch the hem of other's robes.

Yuan Ji stopped on his track for a while, holding his chin thoughtfully while mock-observed the young man. "No can do. You'll kill me once you laid hands on me."

"You little bast—"

He was cut off by a sword held near his neck. The young man stopped at once, turning his head to look at the sword owner.

"Don't worry. Jianshu is still in its scabbard." The owner assured, keeping a calm, composed, yet somewhat indifferent face. He then proceeded to cup his hands in a greeting manner to the young man.

"That's not the problem!" seethed the young man, who at once had great fears because he was unrespectful towards a deity few ranks higher than him, although it was caused by Yuan Ji's pranks. He turned his glare to the grinning water deity. "Please don't get involved with us, Young Master." He gritted his teeth.

"Hu Nan~! Did you come here to give me something?" Yuan Ji snickered at the young man, whose face paled at the way Yuan Ji called the sword owner.

It must be known that Young Master Hu—Nan Bai Qi Shen was one of the high ranking martial official of Golden Tower. And Dong Shi Shui Shen was just a junior head official in Water Palace. Referring a deity at least two ranks higher than one by their names instead of the titles was incomparably rude. The man's eyes nearly popped out from the water deity's recklessness. Yuan Ji sure had some nerve, to call the Third Young Master by his name—acting all intimate.

"Yuan Ji, apologize to this young master." Hu Nan strapped the sword back into his belt. "And don't cause another trouble."

"Okay..." he took a scroll out of his sleeve and handed it to the small god, then bowing a little. "This Shui Shen deeply apologize for the troubles Shui Shen had caused. Please forgive this Shui Shen, Official Scribe of Temple of Knowledge."

The small scribe god accepted the scroll and returned to the temple at once, not intending to fuss over the small trouble.

"Which deity did you annoy again?" Hu Nan sat on the edge of the roof, sincerely asked his childhood friend.

"Junior Official Scribe of Xi Lan's Temple. He numbered the seventh in seniority of his rank."

"What did you do to him?"

"I took a scroll, the one that I handed over just now. It consisted all of new gods' names and their titles, ranks, and powers. I've examined it for a while."

"How many new gods this time?"

"Fifty three."

"That's a lot."

Yet compared to previous times, the number was still insignificant. In the warring period, over two hundred gods could be easily recruited. Although on the other hand, at least half the number died once they were forgotten.

"How did it go? Did you manage to take care of the Western Gate?" Yuan Ji smiled a little.

Hu Nan nodded in confirmation. He continued, "Three Ghosts and Demons were captured, the Heavens have no losses this time. Four martial official got severely wounded."

Yuan Ji mouthed an 'Ohh', before tilting his head to one side. "You're a General now, aren't you?"

"First rank General."

"Still, congratulations. You actually are able to achieve three ranks in the time span of half century, I'm impressed."

"You, too. Try to lessen your pranks. You might have been an Inner Circle Official or a Head Official by now."

"Too bad, I'm stuck at this Junior Head Official forever." Yuan Ji laughed a little, his hand fished out a turquoise ribbon. He tied up his long jet-black hair. "I don't intend to raise into higher ranks."

Hu Nan shifted a little, his gaze fixed on the small jade ornament on the water deity's robes. "You still keep it?"

Yuan Ji took off the ornament and held it up, he said, "It's not as if I could just throw away this, right? After all, it was that person's last memento."

The Jade Pearl of the Eastern Sea—the starting point of his immortality. The small object which had brought so many pain and joy in his life.
