4. pheromones

This centre was specially set up for Alphas and Omegas in the city central to conduct blind dates, to accommodate some Omegas who feared meeting Alphas on their own.

The young lady opposite Lu Meng seemed to look more disappointed with time. Eventually, she shoved the door open and left in anger.

Lu Meng was dumbfounded: “What’s wrong?”

The agent gave him a sympathetic look. It was such a pity — this general was so young, but he couldn’t even tell when an Omega was about to go into heat. To that young lady, Lu Meng’s nonchalance must have felt like a slap to her face.

“Hai…”

“Major General Lu, your father has mentioned that your sense of smell is not too sharp.” The agent spoke as tactfully as possible: “I’m sure you are aware that the outcome of blind dates between most Alphas and Omegas, depends on the compatibility rate of their pheromones.” This was a genetic instinct, and current research had proven that when it came to blind dates, the more compatible the pheromones of both parties were, the happier their marriage would be. As for the compatibility rate, only both parties would be aware. In a nutshell, it came down to: libido and possessiveness.

“So…” The agent took out a piece of paper, “let’s have you try out a different method, we’ll reference the blind date procedure for Betas and come up with a plan for you.” Even though this was what the agent said, the idea was not solely designed for Lu Meng. It was also applicable to a certain troublemaker next door.

“A questionnaire?”

“Please write down the specifics of your ideal partner.”

Lu Meng made a noise of acknowledgement.

Age: 29. About the same as him, then there wouldn’t be a generation gap.

It was only the first blank, but the agent was close to tears, “Major General, your circumstances are special.”

The glands of stronger Alphas took longer to develop naturally, but times have changed: Omegas were no longer closed in white towers and Alphas no longer needed to submit applications to meet them.

Due to this freedom to love, Alphas with undeveloped glands would be induced into full maturity by an Omega’s pheromones earlier than expected. Under current science and technological standards, premature development would not leave behind any negative side effects. Thus, most Alphas no longer waited for their glands to develop naturally.

Of course, except for these two.

This made their parents anxious. Their health check-ups from the previous year reported that their glands had fully developed. So, what were they doing not getting married? Waiting for the New Year?

“Omegas usually reach maturity around eighteen years old.” The agent emphasized, pained. The 29-year-old partner you want basically doesn’t exist.

Lu Meng pursed his lips, then cancelled out the age.

Height: 195[1]. The closer their heights, the easier it would be to converse.

“Major General…” The agent started to tremble. He met Lu Meng’s sharp gaze and braced himself to continue: “Even if it’s a male Omega, there are few who surpass 180.” Even this is a stretch, but height is genetic. My dear Major General… what happened to your knowledge in physiology?!

Lu Meng huffed, then cancelled out the height.

“Why isn’t there a section for ranking physical and mental strength?” Lu Meng asked, puzzled.

The agent: “……” He did not feel like speaking anymore.

Lu Meng thought about the Omegas he had met before and finally admitted that it was his fault for demanding the impossible.

Criterion for a spouse? This was easy — an intelligent mind, clever enough, the both of them should be able to converse effortlessly, they should understand the work he does, they should have rapport… and lastly, black hair and dark eyes.

The agent stared at a sentence in the middle that Lu Meng has crossed out — “Should be evenly matched with me in a fight” — and felt the corners of his eyes go a little numb, “Major General, you have yet to fill in the sections on gender and pheromone preference.”

Gender? Lu Meng suddenly thought of Li Ze and wondered if the other would choose male or female. They rarely discussed their dating preferences… but then again, what did two asexual people have to talk about regarding relationships?

Even though girls were delicate and more high maintenance, his mother probably preferred girls, so… Gender: Female.

Pheromone preference… The agent felt that this question would put him in a difficult spot, and was about to tell him it was fine to leave it blank, when Lu Meng wrote down something with grand strokes of his pen—

Peppermint cedarwood. Perfect.

The agent: “……” A female Omega with peppermint cedarwood pheromones?! Wasn’t this too provoking?

But raising his head, he noted Lu Meng’s earnest expression, and found him quite pitiful, “Well then, Major General, let’s wrap up here for now? I will let you know should there be any outcome.”

“All right, I’ll trouble you to do that.”

[1] No unit of measurement was stated, but it’s probably in centimetres (cm).
