Episode 143 – Visiting Byrne

Somehow, the promises I’ve made have gotten increasingly grand…? The promise I made with the grandma was a bit half-hearted, but would I really be able to achieve it in the end?
Of course I wished that I could save all the people in the world, but I didn’t even know where to start with that. For now… if I could start with repaying my debt to Ahmed and aim to become stronger than Kirty, I would probably find my path to saving people around the world one day.
“So, when are you going to leave Grezesta?” (Grandma)
As I was pondering the grand promise I had just made with the grandma, she proceeded to ask me a question.
When would I leave Grezesta…?
It was only decided a short while ago that I would be leaving Grezesta, so, to be honest, nothing was decided yet. If possible, the sooner the better… but I knew too little.
For the time being, I was thinking of starting by searching for [Azure Alliance], but I had no knowledge of the many places outside the area of Grezesta. I really didn’t know my way around.
“I haven’t decided yet, but I’m planning to leave as soon as possible.” (Lewin)
“So you haven’t decided on a departure date yet, huh? Do you know where you’re going to go after you leave Grezesta?” (Grandma)
“…..No. To be honest, I haven’t even decided where I’m going to go yet.” (Lewin)

“I only decided to leave Grezesta this morning, and I came here immediately to report this matter. I roughly know where I want to go, so I’ll leave as soon as I know where that place is.” (Lewin)

For the first time, a sad expression crossed the grandma’s face. Seeing the expression on her face made me feel a pang of sadness, too. Farewells were always lonely, after all.
“That’s right. I’m going to miss you, but I think staying in Grezesta for too long after having made my choice will only make that feeling worse.” (Lewin)

After that, I parted ways with the grandma and left Elf’s Tears with a rather solemn feeling in my heart. I felt even more indebted to the grandma than I did to Kirty. She was always kind to me from the first day we met, and she was always in my thoughts.
I was feeling a bit painfully reluctant at the moment, but I wanted to go see Byrne, so I went to Bee House. The grandma had said that his life wasn’t in danger, which made me feel a lot better, but… I was still worried about him. I wanted to see Byrne’s healthy face as soon as possible.
Arriving at Bee House, I immediately walked up to the reception desk. That lady who seemed to be the landlady was behind the counter, and, after noticing me, she came out from the back room.
“Tsk tsk, look who it is. You’re Lyra’s boyfriend, aren’t you? What business do you have today?” (Landlady)
There seemed to be a misunderstanding of magnificent proportions going on here, but it was too much trouble to correct her, so I ignored it and said what I had to say.
“Umm, is Lyra-san in her room?” (Lewin)
“Ohh, so that’s what it is! You’ve come to see Lyra? Ah, youth sure is great!” (Landlady)
This bothersome landlady had a mischievous expression on her face as she poked fun at me, but I definitely wasn’t going to retort. I was determined to completely disregard her and get the information I needed. If I tried to correct her, it would be far more trouble than it was worth.
“Um… so is Lyra-san here?” (Lewin)
“She’s here… but she isn’t in the room she usually sleeps in. Actually, one of Lyra’s party members, Byrne, got injured. She’s taking care of that Byrne guy, so she’s probably in his room right now.” (Landlady)

“Yeah, ‘course. I’ll give you the room number, so you can go and find it yourself.” (Landlady)
Just like that, the landlady gave me Byrne’s room number. Although I thought that whatever information she had about me was filled with too many holes, it was helpful for her to hand over the room number so easily.

Byrne’s room was located on the other side of the building from the room where Lyra and Nina were staying. Bee House had a pretty convoluted structure, so it seemed pretty far away even though it was still in the same building.
After carefully confirming the room number, I knocked on the door. After waiting for a moment, I heard Lyra’s voice from inside.

Lyra opened the door and squealed in surprise when she saw me. Porta and Nina peeked out from inside the room after they heard Lyra call my name.
“Yeah. I’m already all better now, so I came to visit. Is Byrne here…?” (Lewin)
