Episode 177 – Going Through the Purchases
After returning home to Ponpokotei, I checked in with the front desk, had dinner in the dining area, and then quickly went back to my room. When I saw the large quantity of bags in my room, I couldn’t suppress a grin. After lining up all the items I had bought today and admiring the sight for a while, I began to go through them one by one.
First were the things I had bought from the Perfect Circle General Store. Since the uses of most of the items I had purchased from there were unknown to me, I wanted to make sure to properly identify them. I reached out and picked up the first item in line.
“Is this… just an ordinary cup…?” (Lewin)
The first thing I picked up looked to be a simple drinking cup. It had the trademark Perfect Circle crest on it, but aside from that, there didn’t seem to be anything special about it. I put it in my shopping basket earlier, thinking this cup would be usable, but now that I could take a step back to think about it, a cup that cost so much was probably not that useful. I peered at it closely before rapping on it lightly.
After that, I tried several things with it, but in the end I couldn’t find any unusual points about it, so I filled it with water and then moved onto the next item.
The next thing that I picked up was a pitch-black ball that fit perfectly in one hand. If there was a stone of the same size, it would probably weigh more or less the same. Just like the cup, this ball also had the trademark Perfect Circle crest printed on it in white. It was a beautiful sphere that looked like a work of art, but I had absolutely no clue what it was used for.
It seemed to fly well when I threw it, but that would make it just a ball… In the end, even after carefully examining this item, I couldn’t figure it out so I moved onto the next one.
The third item I picked up appeared to be a box with a mysterious pattern drawn on it. On the surface, the pattern was depicting a scene with a human-like figure tied up, surrounded by several smiling human-like figures. On the back of the box, there was a pattern showing a large three-headed demon.
Among the products with the Perfect Circle crest drawn on them, this one caught my eye due to its bizarre, striking design. It was also the only one left in stock, so I just put it into my shopping basket and bought it purely on impulse.
The inside of the box was empty. It wasn’t that big in size, and even though the box had a hinge which meant the lid could be flipped open, it couldn’t be fastened so it wasn’t quite able to serve as a container. The only thing it managed to do was catch my eye at the beginning, but the design on it was still pretty creepy and overall seemed like a complete failure to me.
This was already the third item that I had looked at from the Perfect Circle General Store… But all of them didn’t really have any special characteristics, and there was no way to describe them aside from calling them defective products. The total value of these three items was about 6 gold coins, so this had made a pretty big dent in my wallet.
The horror of impulse buying was giving me a terrible headache. To calm myself down, I took a gulp of water from the cup that I filled up earlier.
…But no water entered my mouth, and I only felt cool air coming from the cup.
Thinking it was a bit strange, I quickly checked the contents of the cup, and, much to my surprise, I found that the water I had put in there had hardened and turned into ice. It had only been a few tens of minutes since water was added, but it had already frozen solid.
I didn’t know what in the world was going on, but either way it seemed that this cup could freeze whatever you put inside it. I couldn’t think of many uses for it, but just the fact that it wasn’t an ordinary cup made me feel like I was getting something out of it. In other words, I was super happy that I didn’t completely waste my money.
A feeling of expectation budded within me when I realized that this meant that the other two products might also have a special effect. I added the ice from the cup into some water and took a sip excitedly, then hyped myself up and continued to look through the items.
After going through the items for an hour, I finished looking through everything I had bought from the Perfect Circle General Store. In the end, I couldn’t find any special use for any of them aside from the cup that turns water into ice, so at the moment, all of them but one still had unknown uses. I wanted to believe that they all had some kind of special uses due to their high price, but it was also likely that there weren’t any special functions to them aside from the cup.
Moving away from that fact, I looked down at the belt holder on my waist. This holder was the sole item I could actually use out of the ones I had bought. It was made out of sturdy, high-quality leather, and it had far more storage space than the belt holder I had been using until now. The size of the strap could also be adjusted, making it an excellent piece of equipment.
Maybe it was because I was thin, but the belt holder I had been using in the past was a bit loose even on the smallest setting, but this one fit my body perfectly. This belt holder was the only item that I had seen in the shop and had immediately known that it would be a hit for me, but now that I was actually wearing it, it was of even higher quality than I had imagined. I was very satisfied with myself just because this belt holder was a good pick, but what I couldn’t fathom was how this belt holder was the least expensive item among the things I had bought.
Well, it wasn’t cheap by any means, but the fact that the other inexplicable items were much more expensive really weighed on my mind. For this reason, I was sure that the other items had some sort of use…
Since I couldn’t possibly figure it out now, I put the items on hold and moved on to the main task of checking the plants and potions I had purchased at Green Formula.
