Chapter 296 – Fairytale

“So, are you feeling better?” (Grandma)

“Yes. I feel a lot better, thanks to you.” (Lewin)

After crying for a while, it felt like all of the emotions that I had pent up inside me had all poured out, so I felt a lot better physically. I definitely didn’t come to Grezesta for the purpose of being comforted, but I felt way better emotionally thanks to the grandma consoling me.

“That’s good to hear. So… About that plant that can revive people that you asked me about, I’m sorry but I’ve never seen it nor heard of it.” (Grandma)

“Never heard of it? But I remember you telling me about it once in the past.” (Lewin)

“Well, it would be a bit misleading to say I’ve never heard of it. But it’s true that I’ve never heard any actual information about it. For example, about where it can be found, or where it tends to grow, and so on… in my entire life so far, I’ve never heard any specifics about it.” (Grandma)

The fact that the grandma had never heard anything about it meant that it was extremely likely that it didn’t actually exist. That was what she was trying to imply, but in coming to visit her, I was already aware of this fact.

“I already came here fully aware of the fact that you probably wouldn’t have any exact information on it, so it’s okay. Before, you mentioned that there was a fairytale around it. Would you mind telling me more about it?” (Lewin)

There once was a beautiful princess who was born in a certain country. A witch, who was jealous of the princess due to her flawless beauty, cast a curse upon her. The princess’ fiancé, who was the prince of the neighboring country, sought to track down the witch to find vengeance for the princess, who had met her end due to the curse. He found the forest where the witch lived and avenged the death of the princess, but all he was left with was a deep, gaping feeling of emptiness. In the forest, he began to cry, shedding tears. But suddenly, at his feet where his tears landed, a single flower blossomed forth, shimmering with a golden glow.

Lo and behold, this golden flower was a plant that was capable of reviving people. The princess, who had died to the curse of the witch, was brought back to life, and they lived happily ever after.

It was such an extraordinary, outlandish tale that I could understand why the grandma had been reluctant to tell me about it.

“―Anyway, that’s more or less how it goes. There’s not a single shred of information to be gleaned from the story, as you can see.” (Grandma)

“It certainly is a fairytale without any information that can be verified. If only we knew what country the story was from at least…” (Lewin)

“I don’t know where the story is even from. It’s hard for me to say this to you, but I think it would be better for you to give up on trying to revive her, Lewin. Just like in the story, perhaps it would be wiser to seek revenge instead.” (Grandma)

Of course, I was angry at the Demon King’s Army who attacked us, but I knew that even if I completely destroyed them, I would only end up feeling empty inside, just like in the fairytale.

“I’m not looking for revenge. I just want to be able to talk to Ahmed again. Until I can be absolutely certain that there’s no possibility of that, I want to keep looking for it.” (Lewin)

“Indeed, I can’t imagine you resorting to vengeance… Fine. I know a person who is well-versed in traditions, legends, and strange unknowns. I’ll introduce you to him.” (Grandma)

“There’s really such a person?” (Lewin)

“…Yeah. He’s someone that I used to be in a party with for a bit. Let’s go.” (Grandma)

After the grandma tidied up her outfit a bit, we left Elf’s Tears. After flipping over the ‘Open’ sign on the door, we started walking in the direction of the center of town.

I couldn’t figure out where exactly we were headed, but I knew that at least we were going to see that person she mentioned. However, I had never heard of anyone in Grezesta who had been in a party with the grandma.

Who in the world could it be?

I followed after the grandma with a slight feeling of expectation in my mind, but we arrived at a place that was completely outside my expectations.

“…..Is this the place?” (Lewin)

“Yes. I know you don’t like this place, so I’m sorry about that.” (Grandma)

“No, it’s fine.” (Lewin)

As you might have guessed from the grandma’s words, the place we arrived at was the Healer’s Guild. I thought I had completely gotten it out of my head, but the moment I saw the building, all the bad memories came flooding back.

“Don’t worry. We’ll get out of here as soon as we can and go somewhere else.” (Grandma)

After saying that, the grandma walked into the Healer’s Guild. Aftering taking a big, deep breath and getting my breathing in order, I entered the Healer’s Guild after her.

From the exterior, it looked like the same old building, but the interior made it feel completely different. Rather than the patients only being rich people like before, it was now overflowing with people of all ages and genders.

It seemed that it had gone back to being a regular Healer’s Guild after Brandon, who was an elitist and a person who greedily pursued riches, was forced to leave the Guild.

While pondering over whether I would have enjoyed working for this kind of Healer’s Guild, I followed the grandma to the Guild Chief’s office.

“It’s Irene. I’m coming in,” the grandma announced, pushing open the door without waiting for an answer.

“Maybe you should at least knock before you enter?”

“Oh, shut up. You’re sitting there because of me, so I don’t wanna hear a word out of you.” (Grandma)

In the seat of the Guild Chief’s office where Brandon used to sit was a shockingly beautiful woman with pretty blue hair.

Is this the current Guild Chief of the Healer’s Guild and also the person who used to be in a party with the grandma?

Just judging by her looks, it didn’t seem to be possible timewise. After all, this Guild Chief still looked young and beautiful.
