Episode 44 – Excellent Adventurer Parties

“First, I will start with the D-rank parties. The name of this party is [Kardinad]. The biggest distinction of this party is the fact that they have a 100% quest commission success rate. Their strong point isn’t their strength… rather, it’s the fact that they don’t do anything reckless. Because they have an amazing ability to judge the scope of the quest commission and have excellent situational judgment, they are the only D-rank adventurer party with a 100% quest commission success rate.” (Receptionist Lady)
As expected of a party recommended by the Guild Chief himself, this first introduction was sounding incredibly attractive. They didn’t have any exceptional points that stood out, but they had a 100% quest commission success rate. That was enough to make me feel at ease as the client since that meant they were good at their job.
“Ooh… they sound amazing. Could I take that to mean that while they are not outstandingly strong, they are an extremely stable party?” (Lewin)
“Yes, that’s the right idea. Then, moving onto the next one… an E-rank party named [The Egg Club]. This party is completely different in nature to the previous one.” (Receptionist Lady)
“Different…?” (Lewin)
“Yes. The party leader, Edward, is a B-rank adventurer, while the rest of the members are F-rank and E-rank, so there is quite a large disparity in rank between the party members.” (Receptionist Lady)
So basically, it was a party that had only one person with strength that stood out. I thought it would be pretty tough to work well together if the party members had too big of a difference in strength, but perhaps with the strength of a B-rank adventurer, it would be able to stabilize and work out. Although, if he was going to team up with the likes of F-rank adventurers, he would probably be better off just solo adventuring as a B-rank adventurer. So why was he going out of his way to team up with other adventurers?
“Can I ask a question? Why is Edward-san teaming up with F-rank and E-rank adventurers? If you know why, could you please share the reason with me?” (Lewin)
“The reason is simple. Edward is a 62-year old veteran adventurer and as a kind of charity work, he teaches newbie adventurers the ropes of the trade so they don’t die. Because of this, the members of the party change every half a year, and the party is popular among adventurers and clients alike.” (Receptionist Lady)
Oh? At the start, from hearing the circumstances alone it sounded like this Edward person might have been teaming up with low rank adventurers to boss them around and act domineering. Wow, who would have thought that he was teaming up with low rank adventurers in order to nurture the younger generation? I wanted to meet this person at least once, regardless of whether or not they accepted my request this time.
“The last party I will introduce you to is the F-rank party, [Iron Gear]. They are a party composed entirely of rookies, and although they failed their first quest commission, they have succeeded in every single one after that. Thus, their quest commission success rate is over 95%. Just last week, they did an E-rank quest commission, and they managed to safely succeed. Although they’ve formed relatively recently, they are the party that is currently closest to ascending to E-rank.” (Receptionist Lady)
I had already heard this party’s introduction more than once before, so I wondered if I might have seen them around the Adventurer’s Guild before. [Iron Gear]… If I remembered correctly, they had already put their name down for my quest commission twice before.
“Thank you for the party introductions. Is that all of them?” (Lewin)
“Yes. I have introduced the best parties at each of the respective ranks you listed. They have also already expressed their consent to an escort mission on Mount Cornello, so please take your time and consider carefully which adventurer party you would like to sign with.” (Receptionist Lady)
“Thank you very much. Please give me a moment to think about it.” (Lewin)
Now, which one should I choose…?
What a lavish concern to have. The 100% success rate [Kardinad]. Edward, who was training newbie adventurers out of the goodwill of his heart, in [The Egg Club]. The up and coming [Iron Gear], who had already applied for my quest commission three times now.
Personally, I was more interested in this person called Edward than I was in the adventurer party [The Egg Club], but… I also wanted to meet with [Iron Gear]. They had already applied for my quest commission three times, and they had the Guild Chief’s recommendation too…
Alright, I decided to go with [Iron Gear] this time.
“Er– I’ve decided! I would like to recruit [Iron Gear] for my quest commission this time.” (Lewin)
“The F-rank party [Iron Gear], is it? Certainly! I will notify them immediately, so would you be available to meet with them in front of the bulletin board in the Adventurer’s Guild at noon?” (Receptionist Lady)
“Yes, that’s fine. Thank you very much!” (Lewin)
“Then, may I have 1 gold coin and 5 silver coins to cover the cost of this quest commission?” (Receptionist Lady)
I was about to hand over 4 gold coins as I always did, but I froze once I realized what she said. 1 gold coin and 5 silver coins? I probably didn’t hear wrong… that had to be what she said, right?

“…Huh? 1 gold coin and 5 silver coins? For a four day escort request to and from Mount Cornello, including the time on the mountain itself?” (Lewin)
“Eh? Yes, this is what the cost comes out to for hiring a F-rank party, with the handling fee waived.” (Receptionist Lady)
Even without the 10% handling fee, this was way too cheap! Recruiting a F-rank party for a quest commission only amounted to this much? Still a little taken aback by the low cost, I handed 1 gold coin and 5 silver coins over to the receptionist lady. If their reward was going to be that low, depending on how well they escorted me, I would definitely consider giving them a bonus reward.
