Chapter 50 – Unexpected Activation Condition

It was lunchtime on the fourth day of my hunt on the Rocker Plains.

Leaning against a small rock to protect my back, I enjoyed a sandwich the innkeeper had made for me.

After the first day, I negotiated with the innkeeper for a boxed lunch, and she immediately agreed to make it for me if I could pay only 1,000 beeke per meal.

Of course, it was more expensive than a portable meal, but it was too hard to stay motivated with such a portable meal, so it was a small price to pay if I could have it prepared for 1,000 beeke.

Two slices of round bread, slightly larger than a roll, with a lettuce-like substance, scrambled eggs, and ham in between.

It’s a breakfast set in a single package, so I’m sure the lady must be secretly happy that she got her money’s worth without much effort.

“(Ahhhh, I wish I had a cup of coffee. Is there such a thing as coffee beans in this world?)”

I glanced sideways at the basket as I thought about it.

Yesterday and today, around 11:00-12:00, the basket was half full of monster material.

And today, I went far enough back that there was no other party in sight, but I still did not see any tall trees without a change of scenery.

By the time I reached this point, walking around the hunting grounds was already difficult due to the weight problem, no matter how many recovery pills I had taken, and hunting with the basket on my back was also quite risky due to the shaky axis of my body.

Once back in the town of Bezart, however, it would be a two-hour round trip.

Even if I could save some time by walking when I came back, it would be too hard to make the second trip by pushing myself from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Most of all, it would be no problem to just carry the basket, but returning to town with a half-full basket is something I cannot explain as an efficient cook.

“(If you go deep into this area, people won’t take it from you, but… monsters are cannibalistic…)”

It is a fact that I noticed yesterday.

While retracing my steps on my way home, I saw a Poison Mouse eating the corpses of its hunted compatriots.

At that time, I was lucky enough to catch another one, but once I found out that they even eat their own kind, it was no longer realistic for me to set up a basket on a small rock for a fixed-point hunt.

If I came back and found my material eaten, I would probably stab the rat bastard 20 times in anger.

(A place neither humans nor monsters seem to be able to reach… Should I just dig up the dirt myself? Once made, it can be reused or something.)”

I wonder if they sell shovels?

It’s not so easy to make a mountain so steep that even mice can’t climb it, is it?

Thinking about it, I tapped the ground with my toes and muttered my wish.

“Pile up the earth… It’s impossible, right?”

Rumble, rumble.

“…..”

I almost dropped the sandwich I was about to eat.

I looked down and saw that the ground I had tapped my toe on had risen about 30 centimeters.

It was never there to begin with.

When I tapped my toe, there was a slight blue-purple mist, and I watched the ground rise.

…So I opened the status screen and checked the amount of magic power.

Magic Power: 106/108 (+6)

“My magic power is decreasing…”

But I also used the Rush skill twice before lunch.

So, just to be sure…

Thud, thud.

“Pile up the earth…”

Rumble, rumble.

“…..Seriously?!”

When I opened my system screen again, it showed 104/108 (+6), which is clearly a decrease in Magic Power.

That means I activated magic.

And a memory I’d like to forget.

The unpleasant scene after acquiring Fire Magic comes to mind.

I tried it a lot back then, and it didn’t work, so why…

What I didn’t do then and what I’m doing now is… N-no way!

“You mean it wasn’t ‘hands’ that triggered it, but ‘feet’!”

Although I thought it was absurd, I couldn’t deny the fact that the magic had indeed been activated.

I wanted to grumble about how clumsy this world was at casting magic, but I thought this was no time to eat, so I put the sandwich in my mouth and filled it with water from my canteen.

“(Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy… what is it? What am I going to do? Where to start? First of all…)”

With many thoughts running through my head, the first thing I tried was to increase the amount of Magic Power.

Thump, thump!

“O earth… pile it up a lot!!!”

Rumble, rumble, rumble…

“…..What the hell!”

In front of me, I looked up and saw a small mountain that seemed to be twice as tall as me.

“The magic power consumption is… 19? Or rather, 19 for this…”

For the first time in my life, I was shaken by the magic that had been activated at an unexpected time.

“It’s amazing… it’s amazing, it’s amazing, it’s amazing! The magic is amazing!”

When I touched it lightly, I felt that it was just a mound of earth, but since it was in the shape of a mountain, it seemed to have no problem preventing frontal attacks for now.

However, this could also bring up a Poison Mouse.

I thought so and tried the next move.

I imagine a stone pillar like in a temple.

Bang, bang, bang!

“Generate a stone pillar!”

Rumble, rumble…

“Oh… this is not as good as I thought… is it because I made it harder?”

Although a stone pillar has indeed been created at my feet, its size is rather delicate: 50 cm high and about 30 cm in diameter.

“Now that the magic power consumption is 9… it means that it’s a level 1 magic technique. And the 19 just now means that it was used in the level 2 category.”

Although the level of magic used can be determined from the amount of magic power consumed, there is no way to determine the level of magic used. I don’t really understand how to use level 2 or level 3 magic.

“(The difference is that I said… ‘a lot’? Is it that simple?)”

I have many questions, but I still have magic power.

Here, the “Magic Power Increase” of the short sword shines brightly.

And then.

Thump, thump, thump!

“Generate many stone pillars!”

Rumble, rumble, rumble!

“(Right…)”

What was created with the consumption of magic power 19 was a lot of stone pillars.

In other words, only three more stone pillars of the same size as before were created in front of my eyes.

I had a terrible feeling that this was not it.

“(So maybe something like this is the right way…?)”

Thump, thump, thump.

“Generated a long, thick stone pillar!”

Hmm…

Nothing responds; not even magic power is consumed.

“(Is it not good? Then…)”

Thump, thump, thump!

“Create a long stone pillar!”

Rumble, rumble, rumble…

“Oh!”

Now, finally, the magic power consumption 19.

A stone pillar is created that is about a little taller than my own height.

And as a sensory thing, I somehow come to understand the point of magic chanting.

It is about how many keywords to use.

When you use “generate” for “stone pillar,” you are using two words that are the source of the phenomenon you want to materialize, and in this pattern, you are using level 1.

In other words, I feel that, at the most, a shabby magic with a magic power consumption of 9 and above will be invoked.

Then, by adding additional elements such as “long,” “thick,” “full,” etc., the user would have used three words, which I think would be up to a level 2 magic activation.

So this is the last thing I can try for now.

I place the basket on a stone pillar about 1.5 meters in front of me.

Then, while looking at the base of the stone pillar, I activate it.

Thump, thump, thump!

“Create a long stone pillar!”

Rumble, rumble, rumble…

“Ooooh! I did it! It’s a success…”

The result was a pillar about 3 meters high, created as if it were one, with another stone pillar created underneath the stone pillar with the basket on it.

The very ideal.

It is stable and does not shake even when I kick it, probably because of its weight, and it should not be easy for monsters or humans to touch the basket with materials on it.

Also, since there is only one stone pillar in a large grassy field, it is a very conspicuous landmark.

This completed the creation of a fixed point for hunting.

Now, after hunting in the surrounding area, I can go to the next place and create a stone pillar in the same way to make it a base.

The difficulty is that someone who has been a hunter in Palmera for a long time and has acquired Earth Magic from Hooley Mole will probably be able to do the same thing, but…

Well, it’s such a big place.

If I go deeper into the area, I won’t see anyone at all, and if I see someone moving in an obviously suspicious way, I should be able to deal with it by quickly changing locations.

If I don’t cut them off to some extent, I won’t be able to enjoy the benefits of fixed-point hunting.

Fufufu… Fuhahahaha!!!

I’m going to get a lot of material with this!

“(Okay, then, let’s put it down for now and… huh… that stone pillar, can it be erased?)”

It was only at the very end, when I was about to run out of magic power that I realized the most ridiculous thing.
