Interlude 5
Luna's Pov
this is my first time leaving the city, there are so many trees here, but the {Black Fog} that surrounds us, is making it hard to see more, the Black fog is pushed away from our group, by the Priestesses using an upgraded version of cleanse, which makes it hard for [Black Fog] to return where it was cleansed, but it is only for 5 minutes, since behind us the {Black Fog} is back to where it was.
We are traveling in a group of 50 people, more would just be more noticeable to the {Corrupted}, and we have 3 Caravans in the middle for the Priestesses that ran out of Mana, that need to [Prayer] to regain it, and for supplies needed for the long trek.
"Luna, come here," A voice said.
I turned to the voice and saw a Priestess waving me over, so I ran there, to see what she needs me for.
"Hello Priestess, can I help you?" I asked her.
She pointed at some {Corrupted} at the edge of our safe circle. After traveling for 6 days now, I understand what she needs me to do, I raise my hand and shoot some [Light Bolts], they all hit and kill the 4 corrupted that were there.

"YAY, I reached Level 16!" I cheered then hugged the Priestess, I am only small enough to hug her waist, and my head was sandwiched between her breasts,'Hihi, my extra reward,' I giggle in my mind, the priestess hugged me back then kissed my forehead.
"Haha, now go back to the middle, we will call again when we need you," she said. I released her, then walked back to the group in the middle of the group, made out of other Acolyte, like Marie and Suzy, but also some Explorers, that have also joined but are more here for if anything dangerous comes after us.
Explorers are those that work for the Mission Guild, the Guild that post Missions of any kind, like the mission we are on now. These Explorers are all different, but all have a type they use to determine who goes on which Mission, since a Scout type would be best for, you know, Scouting. The ones going with us are all mage type and warrior type, scout types are not needed, since we have an Inquisitor from the Sisters of Light to scout ahead.
When I reached back towards the group, Marie and Suzy both looked at me with mirth, since they knew that I got asked more, since I would always hug the Priestesses asking me, and some of the Explorers also look at me with a smile since they also figured out what I was doing.
They are all very nice, and unique in their own way, one is even an Orc, called Gralu, Orcs are almost extinct since their race was one of the first to fight and succumb to the [Miasma], so it is my first time seeing one, he is Huge since he evolved to a High Orc, he is twice as big as me, but he is very kind.
'He even let me sit on his shoulder, so I could see when we got attacked by an Ogre,' I thought when thinking of him, he also told me that explorers have the most range of Classes, he himself is a [Barrier Mage], a Rare Tier 2 class that makes him able to summon barriers that stop all kinds of things, he evolved it from Light mage. He is also the one that is going to make the [Beacon of Light], which is rare, since mostly Priestesses gain that Skill, but he has a Passive bonus to any Barriers he creates and the [Beacon of Light] is one.
He told us all who were new to Missions about the things to do, and what not to do, we learned a lot from him over the 6 days, and he said we will reach the location that was chosen for this Frontier soon.
We traveled for another day, good thing is we have a Water mage with Create water, and the Caravan has food, because if not we would be in problem with the food, the last Frontier we reached was 4 days ago, since I am one of the people who have [Cooking], I was told to Cook, since cooked food is better when made with someone with the skill at level 10 or higher.

All of them were surprised to see my Cooking Level, since [Cooking] is pretty common, but to have it above 10 is not. it is a happy thing for us all since my cooking helped with their effect, and it levels faster when I use Ingredients I never used before, and also when the effects help in a fight, so over the journey I gained 3 levels, which is amazing for an [Artisan] skill.
We reached the spot of the Frontier, it is a clearing with a diameter of about 100 meters, so enough room for the [Beacon of Light] to spread and protect it from the {Black Fog}.
There were not any Corrupted in the clearing, so we started walking towards the middle of the clearing, to start the Ritual.
The Ritual was something that only appeared after the [Miasma] has corrupted the land, it is one of the Skills that the Deity's said are gifted to those needing it, from the System.
Ritual Skills are Rare, and all are different, there is the small one where you need to have some Natural Fire and a Fire gem to summon a Fire Elemental, to more complicated ones like the [Beacon of Light] Ritual. Gralu is the one with the Ritual Skill, but still needs the help of some Priestesses, and he also asked me to help, since it increases the chance you gain the ritual later if you have participated in one before, what is needed are Rare items, a Tear of Ilova, which is a Rare Light Gem, 4 Priestesses of Ilova, and a some other items, that are a secret for some reason.
"Okay, everyone ready? Since the moment the Ritual is done, we will be swarmed by corrupted," Gralu asked everyone, and he waited patiently when some needed to [Prayer] to restore some Mana, and when everyone was ready started the Ritual.
While doing the Ritual, the 4 Priestesses will hold the Tear of Ilova, in their hands, and the Ritual Skill holder will need to make a circle using some kind of crystal dust around them, then put items at certain spots in the circle, after it did that he walked toward the 4 priestesses and I walked with him, then he would kneel, and I walked toward the crystal, and dripped my blood on it.
A wave of Light Magic Surged from the Tear of Ilova and stopped a surprising distance away, they said the [Beacon of Light]'s protection would fit nicely inside the clearing, but it spread farther than it, the ritual was supposed to have a diameter of about 80 meters, instead it is around 200 meters, making us all surprised, since this is the biggest [Beacon of Light] ever seen.
"This... I see, we need to prepare, they will come with force, more than usual even." Gralu's voice boomed over the clearing.
Everyone had a purpose here, so the Earth mages made Walls and other Fortifications. Water mages filled some of the pits that the Earth mages made with Water, this was meant to slow down the {Corrupted}.
Light mages, made some Light orbs, for around the clearing, so we can see the {Corruption}.
We could already hear the Screaming from the {Corrupted}, and some already attacked, but those were just loners, we will soon have the Horde of {Corrupted} after us. Gralu told us about Hordes while traveling.
A Horde is when a lot of {Corrupted} get together, almost always is it the same Race, like the Orc Horde that is inside the Gillian Forest, but that Horde is much more east, so we are safe from that at least, but any Horde is dangerous, since there could be hundreds to even thousands of {Corrupted}.
I was standing on the wall with the other ranged attackers, the warriors are before the wall at a choke point with spikes at their side to stop the {Corrupted} in their tracks. The healers are also on the wall and some are behind the warriors, to heal when it is needed.
"Get Ready!" Gralu's voice boomed.
The moment he said that {Corrupted} came from the forest, hundreds of Shades at the time, they came from all around us, and the fight was on.
The fight was intense, Magic flew all around us, I used Light bolts as much as I could, then drank a Mana Potion that they distributed around, so we can keep fighting. Some people got hurt, but the healers knew what to do.
After a while of fighting, a Huge Shade came, the leader, It was at least 5 meters tall, it had the same body as the other shades, meaning very thick {Black Fog}, but this one has big horns made from red energy, and red eyes, focused on me.
It looks at me with pure Hate, frightening me, until I felt a big hand on my head, patting it.
"Don't be afraid, Little one, you have us all as a Shield." Gralu said to me, making me feel better, since he was right.
The Shade Leader was not happy, and attacked, it used its hands that have become spears, to skewer two warriors before anyone could do anything, then rushed at us, But it got stopped by a Barrier, stopping it in its treks, the Ranged focused on it, but every magic that was not light was just stopped by something, some kind of Aura around it was weakening any other magic then Light.
I used the new Skill I gained from reaching Level 10 in Acolyte.

When I used it, instead of coming from my hand, like I was expecting, it got created above my head, and flew at where I willed it.
It hit the Shade Leader in one of its red horns, breaking it. The Shade Leader screamed in ANGER, and red energy was coming from its mouth that grew bigger every second, then it shot a red beam at us. But it was stopped by Gralu, who used another Barrier, smaller this time, to stop it.
After the beam was done the Shade Leader visually got smaller to half its original size, but Gralu was not any better, he looked tired, that last Barrier took all of his Mana to make and maintain.
we all took advantage of this to kill the Shade leader, and the shades were dealt with soon after that.
