“Don’t worry. It’s just us at the moment, but they’ll be with us in a little while… Let’s take care of you first. Luckily, it looks like you’ve only been injured for a short time, so I should be able to—!”

Jo Yeon-ho was about to use his healing skill when Pyo Yeon-Won grabbed his hand.

“Don’t heal me… him first…. Argh! Haah….ha… Heal him first…”

When he looked over to where Pyo Yeon-Won was pointing, he saw a man lying on the ground, covered with bruises and drenched in blood.

It was obvious who had done it, so he frowned.

Jo Yeon-Ho hesitated a little before heading over.

“Are you from the Netherworld?”

Someone approached me and asked.

I looked up and saw a face I had seen before.

『There were five Hunter Aspirants and two Active Hunters stuck inside.』

‘What is a Hunter Aspirant?’

『They were aspiring hunters who were preparing for the Hunter test after completing the private academy.』

‘Then who are the two Active Hunters?’

『Ranger Park Young-Chan and Tanker Go Ha-Jin. Park is a new member of the Nightwalkers and Go Ha-Jin is an independent hunter.』

‘Park Young-Chan!’

Ranger Park Young-Chan, He was a member of the Nightwalkers.

“I’m glad you’ve finally arrived. I’m Park Young-Chan, a Nightwalker. Pleased to meet you.”

I glanced at his Hunter’s license and returned it back.

This wasn’t the point anyway.

“As you can see, the monster here is presumed to be a Shapeshifter. There’s supposed to be one in here, too, so we were forced to use rough methods.”

“You were forced?”

“Yes. We had no choice.”

His tone was authoritative.

“It’s a last resort, but you know that when the gate is unable to be cleared for an extended period of time… This is one of the highly recommended methods.”

He whispered in a low voice.

It was cruel but a quick gate clearance is always the best rescue.

“It would have been better to wait for rescue.”

“That would have been an option,” He said, “And I know you’re thinking that way because you happened to know the person who was about to be sacrificed, but… you must have sacrificed someone at the gate before, too.”

I clamped my mouth shut.

I had avoided such choices as much as possible since my regression, but before my regression, I hadn’t had the luxury to do so.

If I had to sacrifice someone’s life to keep me and ten others alive, who would I save?

I didn’t have time to ponder such philosophical questions.

“Since we’re here, we’ll switch to a different method. It’s hard to keep an eye on everyone by yourself, so I understand why you’ve chosen this method… I can’t judge you, but I’d like you to follow our instructions from now on. We’re the officially dispatched hunters after all.”

“Of course, Miss, but there’s just one thing… That’s bothering me.”

Park Young-Chan laughed sardonically.

“How do we know that you’re not monsters?”

“What do you mean…”

“I mean, what if you’re just pretending to be hunters and planning to eat us all, huh?”

“If you suspect us, you watch us when we watch you. Even if you’re not a professional hunter, it shouldn’t be hard with all these eyes.”

After I calmly responded, Park Young-Chan looked at me for a moment, and said,

“Okay.”

Then turned away as if he understood.

However, there was definitely an air of reluctance.

“Seoha-Noona.”

“What’s wrong?”

“What I’m about to say might sound absurd but…”

“What is it?”

I said, without taking my eyes off the students.

The surveillance begins now.

So I can’t look away for a second.

“I know who the monster is.”

‘What?’

That was a pretty… Dangerous statement.

“How?”

“It’s a long story, but… I keep hearing voices in my head.”

I glanced over at him.

Pyo Yeon-Won was staring at me in a daze, like he was in a dream.

But before I could believe him, I had to check on something.

“Yeon-Won, what color is your toothbrush?”

“What? Why do you ask me that all of a sudden?”

“Answer me.”

“Uh… It’s green.”

“Since when?”

“It’s been a long time. I used green and my sister used yellow so that the toothbrush wouldn’t mix…”

‘That’s good enough.’

This Pyo Yeon-Won is definitely real.

I don’t want to think about it, but what if the Shapeshifter had already eaten Yeon-Won, and is just pretending to be him.

It could be giving us false information, so I needed to do a quick confirmation.

‘Before the regression, Yeon-Won awakened as a ranger.’

A person’s Awakening was highly dependent on the environment and the temperament of the Awakener.

The current Pyo Yeon-Won would have awakened with a different mindset, and temperament than before my regression, so it was plausible that his unique skill had also changed.

‘This is probably why he is hearing voices…’

“What is your unique skill?”

“It says, «Induction».”

“Induction?… I’ve never heard of it.”

It was indeed the first time I’ve heard of such a unique skill, both before and after the regression.

‘Induction.’

What is he inducting?

A name like telepathy or psychokinesis would have been clearer.

“So what are the voices telling you?”

“It’s… Warning me.”

“Warning you about what?”

“…T–To run away.”

‘What does it mean?’

It was hard to get a good sense of what it meant with the limited information.

“The voices are telling me who the monster is.”

“Are you sure this isn’t just an auditory hallucination?”

“Yes… I’m sure.”

Pyo Yeon-Won replied with a low, sunken gaze.

“Noona, Do you think he’ll be angry if he finds out?”

“I’ll bet… But, it’s okay. You’re more certain than that, right?”

“Mmm.”

“I’m not doubting you…”

It’s true.

Unless the voices Yeon-Won was hearing out of thin air were just his hallucinations.

If it wasn’t…

Then…

It should be something with intelligence and personality to carry on a conversation…

‘Could it be a…. Spirit?’

That’s the faintest possibility.

Spirits are unseen and untouchable creatures.

Like Mages, an awakener needs to have a certain aptitude for them to be able to sense the existence of spirits, and form a contract with them.

The existence of elementalists who contract with spirits and wield their powers has not been properly recognized even for a while.

So barely anyone knows about them.

“Yeon-Won… Perhaps… Did you make a pact with a… spirit?”
