Chapter 66. Lowe

“Hey, you! Hey, you with the strange look on your face!”

As the two walked down the school road to the training field, Lowe was unexpectedly almost grabbed by the shoulder, but avoided it. There were three guys.

“—!”

One of the students, the one who was easily avoided, almost lost his posture a bit, but he stayed up.

“You’re not a student, are you? This is no place for commoners like you. Get out of here!”

All three were dressed in their associated Knights’ uniforms. The morning bell rang inside the school, and there were already some student figures around. They must have been students who wanted to train independently, study, or have breakfast outside of school before classes began. The loud and sudden voice attracted the attention of the students around. The two involved were Wynn, who had recently gained fame despite being a commoner, and a stranger dressed as a slum dweller.

“No matter what, I can’t let this go.”
“No, he is not a suspicious person, he has the proper permission to…”

Wynn opened his mouth to defend Lowe but didn’t know what to say. After all, he didn’t know anything about him.

“I have permission to be here, see? Here it is.”
“…Mm.”

Lowe took a wooden tag with a red stamp from his pants and placed it under the trio’s nose.

“So, no problem, right?”
“No, of course, I guess you have the permission…”

The three looked at the wooden tag with the red stamp when it was placed in front of them, and then brusquely pushed the man’s hand aside with a look of disgust.

“Wynn… as expected of a commoner knight, you are beyond our understanding.”
“You seem to have befriended the Brave and Her Highness the Imperial Princess, but we, as true nobles, do not recognize you.”
“To letting such suspicious guys into this prestigious and traditional knight school.”
“That is why the commoners…”
“Why would the imperial family open the doors of this sacred school to commoners?”
“The name of such a venerable family so well known throughout the continent will be tarnished…”

The students stared at them as they let out a voice that sounded like a low growl.

“Now, now.”

Before they knew it, Lowe was with his hands on their shoulders, putting his arms around them. The movement took the students by surprise.

“What are you doing so close?”
“I just came here to have a sword fight with Wynn-kun. I’ll leave as soon as the battle is over. I don’t want to be discovered by an acquaintance…”
“Get away from me this instant!”
“First of all, who gave permission for someone dressed like you to enter? What guard? I will investigate and discipline him.”
“Wait, wait, you have a point. Well, with an appearance like this? Although I don’t think there’s any need to slander Wynn-kun because of the class he was born in. Besides, the guards do their job diligently, don’t they?”

Lowe clapped, as if to say, “Oh, I know.”

“Wynn-kun has caught the attention of the Brave and the Imperial Princess, so I guess you were jealous of that and tried to replace those thoughts by trying to get rid of me?”
“Ki, you! You are a wretch who makes fun of us imperial nobles!”
“There’s no need for you to fight this commoner! I’m going to beat you right here!”
“Hmm… it doesn’t look like I’m going to enjoy fighting you, but oh well. Wynn-kun has already warmed up for his morning training, but I’ll have you as my training partner.”
“Hey, Lowe-san!”
“And the fact that I’m the only one who saw how Wynn-kun fights with the sword isn’t fair either, right?”

Lowe laughed with a relaxed expression on his face.

“Hey you, don’t think you’ll get away with it!”

Lowe followed the three angry students. Many students had seen the commotion. They must have thought it would be interesting, and many of them had changed their plans and started following them.

‘…I hope they don’t call me to the instructor’s office later because of this…’

Wynn sighed and ran after them, who were further ahead.

◇◆◇◆◇

—Training field. A stone building in the shape of a mortar.

“You should feel honored. I’ll be the one to take care of you.”

From the trio, a big boy with dark brown hair came forward with a knight’s sword.

“Hey, use the training sword.”
“Shut up, commoner.”

Wynn complained to the boy who pulled out the knight’s sword instead of the training sword.

“What is about to happen is not a duel, it is a sanction against a dubious bandit who has insulted a nobleman!”
“Didn’t I show you my permission?”
“How do we know if it is real or not? To begin with, just look at you. How would someone who looks like this get permission? It’s a fake, I’m sure of it!”

He raised his voice to be heard by the students who had come to see him.

“Well, that’s fine, Wynn-kun. It’s no big deal.”
“But, Lowe-san, does it have to be this way?”

Ignoring the worried Wynn, Lowe stepped forward and drew his sword.

“Okay, you drew your sword… don’t worry, I won’t kill you.”
“More importantly, it doesn’t have to be a one-on-one, okay? I don’t care if it’s three against one.”

Undeterred by Lowe’s whispers, the brown-haired student recited a physical enhancement spell.

“Give me strength.”
“Oh, boy… Give me strength.”

The bodies of Lowe and the brown-haired student were wrapped in a white phosphorescence.

“Can you do magic? Apparently, you’re not just a mere commoner. Come on, let’s fight.”

The brown-haired student provoked him by quickly moving the tip of the sword blade held in one hand.

“Well, I’ll take your word for it… ho.”

Lowe’s voice sounded distracted.

And at the same time…

Lowe sheathed his sword. And then, there was a roar, a metallic sound.

“…Ah.”

The sword held by the brown-haired student was cut from the base. The cut blade fell into the cobblestones of the training camp.

“What?”
“Ah… Aaah…!?”

The brown-haired student’s mouth was moving, looking back and forth between the sword handle and the cut blade. The cut surface of the blade looked as beautiful as a mirror.

“And what do we do now? What about the other two? I don’t care at all if you want to come both at once…”

The light from the eyes that peeked out from under the long fringe pierced the students. The students, who made eye contact with Lowe’s eyes for the first time, paled and collapsed, making them wonder where their previous courage had gone.

“Hmm… well, you’re students. That’s it. I think you’re doing fine, okay? That wasn’t right, though.”

Lowe quickly lost interest in all three and turned to Wynn.

“Well, I was interrupted, but my proposal still stands. Wynn Bard, I hope you’re not as bad as they are.”

◇◆◇◆◇

In the middle of the training camp, in front of the three associated knights who were involved, Wynn and Lowe, who had taken up knight’s training swords, faced each other. The other students who had come to watch for the fun were also looking at them with bated breath.

No, to be precise, it had to be said that they were being pressed into place by the pressure that Lowe was releasing.

Lowe was just standing there, holding himself up naturally. But it was as if he didn’t have any openings.

‘It’s like a completely different atmosphere than before!’

The occasional sharp gleam in his eyes, which peeked out from under his long, wind-blown bangs, pierced Wynn’s body.

“Oh, by the way, Wynn-kun, you can’t strengthen yourself with magic, can you?”
“Indeed.”
“I see… and, by the way, we can’t stand around forever… come on!”

‘…Here it comes!’

Wynn’s body moved back half a step and a bell sound was heard almost simultaneously.

Lowe didn’t seem to have moved an inch from his relaxed posture. But Wynn could feel his heart thundering rapidly.

“Hey… did you avoid that? And without any physical improvement?”

Lowe, who showed a small smile on his mouth, seemed a little dazed. Then he started laughing, first a little, then more intensely.

“Hahaha! Interesting! Just like I was told. I see, you’re amazing. When I was having an exchange with that guy earlier, you were measuring the range of my sword, weren’t you? So that half step was barely enough to keep my sword from reaching you.”

Lowe was right. Wynn would not have been able to see the trajectory of his sword now.

Earlier, when he was dealing with the student, he didn’t get lost when Lowe pulled out his sword and was able to measure its range. So, he only took a half step back when he saw the moment he moved.

If he hadn’t seen it before, Wynn would have lost.

Honestly, he was on a completely different level.

‘When it came to an opponent like this, would he be on Leticia’s level?’
(TN: I’m not quite sure that’s the right translation).

‘This case is different… I know it is, but I want to see how far I can go!’

In Wynn’s mind, his consciousness shifted to the battle with Leticia.

As far as Wynn knew, she was the most powerful being.

“Ho?”

Lowe narrowed his eyes and looked at Wynn. He noticed that he closed his posture and increased his concentration.

‘Will you prepare something?’

But Wynn was not moving. He put his left leg forward, sword ready, watching Lowe’s movements.

“All right, if you don’t come, I will.”

Don! and Lowe accelerated after running. In an instant, he closed the gap and cut with his sword from right to left.

Lowe’s attack speed was certainly faster than Wynn’s. He was far inferior to Lowe in terms of physical ability and sword movement speed because his body was not improved.

However, if it was an opponent approaching him, he was confident that he could stop the sword!

By the time Lowe arrived, Wynn’s sword was shaking.

“—!”

Wynn’s sword made its way with a small, quick movement, Lowe instantly took a step backwards, then dodged the tip of Wynn’s sword through a nose, turning his upper body further back.

‘Whoa, that’s fast, that’s fast…’

It’s not as if he completely noticed Lowe’s movements. With his extremely high concentration, Wynn was only looking for signs, and the moment he felt it coming, he moved faster anyway.

Lowe’s enormous amount of combat experience made him dangerous the moment he got close, and Wynn was able to back off before he could do so completely, so he could avoid it.

If he had taken another half step, Lowe would have been defeated this time, even if he didn’t mean it.

‘This is bad… I’m getting chills!’

Seeing that the other side had lost its stance, Wynn launched a follow-up attack. Lowe dodged the slash coming from below and ducked as he moved to Wynn’s side.

‘He’s not even using magic, it’s just his moves! I thought that was normal because I didn’t use magic, but I need to correct that… hmm?’

Wynn, who should have lost sight of Lowe after bending over so quickly and moving to the right side, kicked with his left leg and followed Lowe back to his right.

A sharp right foot pushed like a gale with all the power of his body, a right-side slash, and a sharp one after moving upward. Then, without stopping, he climbed up from his belly to his shoulder.

‘Making a circular motion with himself as an axis, he follows my speed with a minimum of movement… So, what about this guy?’

Lowe hesitated to match the slash coming from Wynn.

“Nah!”

He took a sword slash in his right hand from his left shoulder to his stomach.

‘——!?’

But, as if anticipating the attack, Wynn bent down to match the behavior of Lowe’s slash, the sword just above his head.

“Oooooooooooo!”

Wynn showed his sword, as if it reappeared under his feet as his body descended.

“Tch!”

Lowe dodged it while making a noise with his tongue, and Wynn turned his body with the momentum of his sword movement into a low position. Standing without changing his stance, he gave a lateral cut.

¡Gin!

He couldn’t bend over since his body was in the air. Lowe cut vertically with his sword and stopped Wynn’s slash, pulling him away.

His muscle strength had increased with physical strengthening. Wynn, who was thrown into the air by the movement of the sword, tried to recover in the air, but could not and was thrown to the ground. However, he stood up immediately, and was ready and alert.

“If you can’t reach me with your speed, then you can go on the offensive without leaving me even time to breathe… but if you make a wrong move, you’ll be dead in no time, right?”

Wynn’s tremendous concentration made it possible for him to give a small cut… While on the offensive, he unleashed a blast while attracting Lowe’s attack. If he were to see through that invitation, it would be Wynn who was cut.

“I don’t… do it… for anyone… but…”
(TN: Totally not too sure.)

Wynn said quietly as his shoulders rose and fell violently. But his eyes had a sparkle in them that was no less than Lowe’s, and his mouth had a smile. That must have been the result of hundreds or thousands of training sessions.

Wynn’s opponent, who was virtual in his training, was clearly visible to Lowe.

“I see… I can certainly see her shadow. Then I guess it would be rude if I didn’t give it my all too!”

The pressure Lowe exuded just now became more intense. The white phosphorescence surrounding his body became even brighter.

Wynn put his left foot in front of him again and held his sword. Using himself as an axis and making a minimal amount of movement, he would give a slash the moment Lowe approached.

“This time I won’t give you time to react!”

A shout and a dang! Lowe plunged into Wynn’s space as if he had moved in an instant.

He was fast!

Wynn also managed to react and try to get his sword out of the way, but even though his eyes followed his movement, his body could not. Lowe’s sword was a few steps faster than Wynn’s attempt to defend himself. A flash of the sword was seen; Wynn’s knight’s sword, which was supposed to have stopped the blow, was cut and thrown upwards, and the other sword that was coming came over Wynn’s head.

Gin!

The sound of the clash of the steel resounded around.

A swinging sword appeared behind Wynn, who tried to stop the intense blow that Lowe struck with the base of the sword he lost…

“Letty…”

With her hair fluttering, glowing golden in the morning sun… Leticia was staring at Lowe. Just like that, she bounced Lowe’s sword, and instantly unleashed a blow.

Lowe received the sharp cut with his sword, and it became a guarded battle.

“Are you trying to hurt me?”
“Well, I stopped the blade, just in case.”
“If I wanted to, I could kill you even if you blocked the blow.”
“I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
“I will not forgive anyone who hurts Onii-chan, not even you, Raul.”

As she gradually pushed the opposing sword, Leticia looked down. The blade of the broken knight’s training sword was under Wynn’s feet.

“In case you’re wondering, I still call myself ‘The Saint of the Sword’.”
“What is the ‘most powerful man on the continent’ doing here?”
“I have come to see your master, the ‘most powerful man in the world’.”

“The Brave”, “Princess of the Sword”, “The closest existence to God”. Leticia Von Mavis, Lowe, “The Saint of the Sword” Raul Orto Lyon returned a smile while they were with their crossed swords.
