Chapter 67 – The Brave and the Sword Saint (I)

(TN: I’ve decided to change “Saint of the Sword” to “Sword Saint”. Comments and suggestions are welcome. By the way, I added an illustration that I forgot to add in the previous chapter.)

“Are you okay? Are you hurt, Onii-chan?”
“I am fine. I am not hurt.”

‘Hmm… I see. That Letty…’

Leticia’s expression, as she worried about wynn, was soft. An expression she could finally show after four years of traveling and opening up as friends. It was an expression she had shown in front of Raul and her other companions, but never in front of others. This was the first time he had seen Leticia with that expression on her face in the presence of so many other people.

“I’m sorry, Wynn-kun. I got a little overexcited in the second half too.”
“No, I’m honored to be able to cross swords with the ‘Sword Saint’!”

Wynn’s cheeks blushed and he bowed his head to Raul.

“…The ‘Sword Saint’?”
“Really… I was on a one-on-one basis with the ‘Sword Saint’…”

The three students involved whispered with dazed faces. In no way, in fact, was this suspiciously homeless-looking man the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Lyon and the hero Raul Orto Lyon, who held the title of “Sword Saint”. It was natural to be stunned.

“Sword Saint…”
“That Raul Orto Lyon…”

The students who had gathered there were also murmuring. In the blink of an eye, not only the Knights’ School, but also the entire imperial capital must have been aware of Raul’s existence.

“Hmmm… something seems to have disturb them all.”
“Of course! What do you think you are doing!?”
“Ugh…”

Leticia approached Raul, pointing her finger at him.

“How can the prince of a country be in this place! And on top of that you are dressed like this! If Tiara finds out, she will be angry with you.”
“Wha-what does Tiara have to do with all this?”

Raul shuddered at Leticia’s swordplay. He let his voice escape involuntarily.

Also, Tiara Thane and Raul, the priestess who served in the Great Temple of Emerdia, called “Saint”, were a couple.

“You are the Crown Prince, and is not that something important right now?”
“Oh no, whenever I go out that doesn’t matter…”
“Speaking of which, it’s true…”

Leticia let out a sigh. She remembered that when he joined her journey, he had escaped from the royal palace on his own and followed her.

“Well, it’s partly because I wanted to meet Letty’s master. There are circumstances that make it necessary for me to meet you properly as well.”
“With me?”
“For the time being…”

Raul looked around, and then…

“It’s sure there’s a turmoil, isn’t?”
“It’s your fault…”

‘I wonder who stands out more.’

Wynn thought the same thing.

“I guess it has already been reported that Raul-sama is here.”
“Onii-chan, you don’t have to correct your language for Raul.”
“It’s rude to call me Raul, Letty, isn’t it? Well, even for me, it’s easier to be comfortable that way, but couldn’t you hide that fact now that I’m visiting this country?”
“I don’t think I can.”
“I know… well, that’s fine. I had to meet Alfred too. Wynn-kun.”
“Yes?”
“Can you take me to our country’s embassy? I couldn’t go to the Imperial Palace dressed like this, as expected.”

Looking at himself still dressed in his traveling clothes, Raul laughed.

“Very good, sir. I will get you a carriage immediately.”
“Just tell me the way. I don’t like carriages and things like that.”
“If you say so…”
“What are the circumstances that required you to meet with me?”

Leticia said with a disapproving expression to Raul, who proceeded with the conversation on his own.

“Not that we are in any hurry to talk about it, and this is not the right place either. Anyway, the imperial palace will do.”
“Then I’ll have to go to the Imperial Palace too, won’t I?”

Leticia frowned shamelessly.

“You haven’t been going to any late-night parties or anything like that anyway, have you? You should be more social, you know, Letty? After all, you’re very pretty. A beautiful flower should be seen and loved by many people, don’t you think? Don’t you agree, Wynn-kun?”
“What? Um, I…”

Wynn seemed embarrassed and shaken.

“I’m just tired of all these late-night parties…”

The late-night parties… the social gatherings were also a meeting place for the nobles. Since her return to the imperial capital after defeating the demon king, Leticia had attended several of them, but each time she had grown tired of the many men who had gathered around her. She could not help but be the center of attention of all the young nobles in the room, but for her, who was already in love, those looks were simply annoying.

“I’m sure Her Highness Cornelia will be there, so I’ll bet Wynn-kun will be at the party tonight, too.”

Raul looked at Wynn meaningfully, then winked at Leticia.

“I see.”

If this were a party to celebrate Raul, the Crown Prince of the neighboring country, Cornelia, the Princess, would also be present. If Cornelia attended, Wynn, who had become her bodyguard, would also attend.

‘If Onii-chan goes to the party tonight, maybe I can dance with him…’

Leticia took a look at Wynn, who had a question mark on his face, unable to understand the meaning of Raul’s gaze.

Amidst the elegant music that the court musicians would play, Wynn would gently wrap his hands around Leticia’s slender waist, and she would lean closer to him, dancing quietly to the sound of the tune. As the soft, beautiful melody flowed, Leticia inadvertently found herself imagining his step as she let herself be carried away by Wynn’s clumsiness.

“…Yes, maybe it’s not so bad.”
“What’s the matter?”

Wynn heard Leticia’s murmur and asked curiously.

“…It’s nothing.”

Leticia came back from her reverie as she dismissed the subject.

“Meanwhile, I’ll take you to the nobility building of the Knights’ School until I can get you a carriage…”
“I don’t want to have to exchange greetings with important people.”
“But if we stay here too long, we’ll make a scene. Somewhere discreet… maybe Onii-chan’s and Locke-san’s room?”
“Our room? Don’t you think it’s rude to show Raul-sama a place like that?”
“It’s okay, it’s just Raul.”
“Hey, Letty!”

Raul saw Leticia’s expression change from one to the other as she talked to Wynn, and he smiled, but when he looked away, he looked up at the sky, which had been completely lit up.

“A teacher and student is like a parent-child relationship. The teacher just has to give their students a little help and then they can just watch over them. But the strange thing is that the student grows up watching the teacher more than the teacher thinks, and eventually the student will outgrow himself. That’s the beauty of being a teacher.”

Those were the words left by the Raul’s master, the former Sword Saint. Leticia had said that she was neglected by her family since she was a child. But that she found the meaning of life in this world on the back that she kept looking at. She grew up watching Wynn, and it was because of him that she got an unbreakable heart like The Brave.

‘I see… Wynn Bard, huh. The one Letty has been watching. Who in turn has been watching Letty. And… the reason she was able to fight the Demon King.’

Raul still had in mind the day he met Leticia. A fragment of the past he could still remember clearly and vividly.

Leticia’s eyes at that time.

Those eyes were full of melancholy and frailty, but when she wielded her sword in the face of an enemy, one could see a strong glow of will in them, a glow of will that desperately tried to resist a harsh fate.

Raul was fascinated by those eyes and accompanied Leticia on her journey. He could not forget them.

‘You are back where you are supposed to be, Letty.’

“Hey, Raul, don’t just stand there, come on.”
“Yes, yes, I’m coming. Then I’ll ask you to show me around, Wynn-kun.”
“Sounds good to me, sir.”
“Come on, Onii-chan, you don’t need to be formal with Raul!”
“No, there’s no way I can do that.”

Raul laughed and followed them as they stood and walked in front of him. Wynn and Leticia played around.

‘If I could… I would like Letty to continue to live a peaceful life…’

From the bottom of his heart, Raul agreed. So, he was beginning to get angry with those who tried to involve her again in what he was going to have to say.

By the way, when Wynn returned to the dormitory with Leticia and Raul without warning, knocking on their bedroom door, the door opened from the inside. Locke came out of the door of their room, still with his sleepy eyes and dishevelled hair, and a gnawed sandwich in his hand, which was probably breakfast.

“Oh, welcome back Wynn… uh, good morning, Leticia-sama! Sorry to see me dressed like this.”
“No, don’t worry, Locke-san. Sorry to bother you so early in the morning.”
“We had a guest, and I just wanted to show him our room.”
“Hmm? Who? Ah, this old man.”
“Old man?! I’m only twenty-five!”
“Locke, Locke! This is the Sword Saint! The Sword Saint-sama!”
“Sword Saint? How could he be the Sword… wait, don’t tell me he’s really the Sword Saint Raoul Orto Lyon!?
“Locke, the Sandwich! The Sandwich!”

As expected, he woke up out of the blue. When he heard that the man in front of him was the famous ‘Sword Saint’, the sandwich that was about to bite almost slipped out of Locke’s hands, and he was wide awake, and Wynn quickly caught it in the air.

“Wait, wait, you! Why is the Sword Saint here? Oh no, it’s not strange, since Leticia-sama is here too, isn’t it? Isn’t it strange?”

Finally, when Wynn tried to go to the office of the knights’ school to arrange transportation to the embassy of the Kingdom of Lyon, he told him…

“Wait, wait, wait, I’ll get the carriage. You stay in the room, okay? Leticia-sama is there and that’s better.”

Locke pushed Wynn away as he almost cried. Although Wynn was also a little nervous with Raul, he had an ally named Leticia, a strong ally who was more than a match for the Sword Saint. As far as Locke was concerned, Wynn was even more capable of withstanding this tense space that would be unbearable for an ordinary person.

‘The Brave and the Sword Saint… an ordinary person like me cannot be in the same room, impossible, impossible!’

He ran out into the hallway to get away from the room, which had become a magical place before he noticed.

‘I knew there was a lot of weirdness around Wynn! I can’t believe I’m talking to the Sword Saint up close and personal like this!’

However, Locke did not know this. After this, even though he was able to escape from his room, which had become a magical world, he knew that the students who had heard about the Sword Saint’s visit, as well as people from all over the knights’ school, would ask him questions about him….
That day, Locke (Leticia aside), besides his meeting with the Sword Saint Raul, was constantly interrogated by curious students and colleagues, and when he returned to his room after finishing his classes, he was so exhausted that he could not even eat.

‘Damn, that idiot Wynn…’

When he collapsed in bed, Locke made a firm vow in his heart that one day he would take revenge on Wynn.
